Only with WoW players. The only games that have a legitimate tourney scene are fighting games and Starcraft in Korea. Both of those do not require time sinks of unrelated game activity to compete.
They are only concerned about the target demographic of the games who are children 12 and under. That is why there are so many legendary Pokemon and grinding because kids love beating everything with level 100s. The minor jokes you are seeing in game are from the translators.
