Metagame SS OU Metagame Discussion (Usage stats in post #944)

Could we maybe get a separate thread for the Dynamax argument? I think it's absolutely something that should be discussed (I'm personally waiting to see what happens before I get too into this generation's competitive,) but this thread has had very little actual metagame discussion. Seems like...

Hm... this is a fairly interesting slate. I haven't been doing a great job of keeping up with things around here, so let's try to fix that a bit. Flower Veil Virizion and Shed Skin Zygarde are much more directly comparable than most theorymon because they're basically the same concept slapped...

XY OU Suspect Process, Round 3 - BATON PASS [READ POST #590]

I can't even be bothered with the rest of the post, when only two lines in you say something like that. Moving on, then. Looking at the three options presented in the OP, it seems clear that option 1 isn't the answer. So, the issue is whether it's best to limit the number of passers or limit...

I remember the rule being mentioned in a much earlier set of Theorymon (I think applied to a mon that lost the voting round,) and I believe it's been a thing since the beginning. Basically, it would have been enforced since the start if any examples of it actually came up.

Normal/Fairy Blissey is one of those upgrades that doesn't seem like it'd be enough to radically change anything. Though it definitely handles Dragons a bit better (provided they don't set up, I guess,) and special mons running Focus Blast/Aura Sphere like Landorus, Chansey's radically better...

Other The OU Role Comparison Project

Basically just pointing out an inaccuracy here. While the following list of Pokemon isn't made of Pokemon you'll often see in OU (or even all viable Pokemon in OU,) they all resist Water/Rock coverage. Breloom, Virizion, Poliwrath, Storm Drain Gastrodon, Water Absorb Quagsire, Water Absorb...

None of these look overwhelmingly good, but certainly useable. Magic Guard Celebi- It's more-or-less a straight upgrade from the Natural Cure variant. Celebi with Magic Guard doesn't want to be paralyzed, but that's really it. Being able to more easily go on the offensive with recoil-free Life...

I disagree with most of this, though I will bare with you here. Accelgor's viability won't be low just because Talonflame exists, and it's far from the only mon Talonflame can tear up anyway. Accelgor would, in many cases, run a Focus Sash anyway, just to guarantee 2 moves when used as a lead...

Is that how the statistics work? I'd think they'd not count the same team over and over again if one guy plays a bunch of games.

I don't know if the usage stats really back up the idea of Stall being a dominant playstyle, at least from looking at last month's 1760 stats. Stall was at 6.28%, whereas HO sits at 12.16%, while Balanced was around 30% and Offense was around 44%. If you mean from a gameplay standpoint and not a...

Thoughts? Thoughts. Sticky Web Accelgor seems like a decent improvement over Galvantula for better speed, better SpA (though Thunder's base power helps Galvantula a lot in the long run,) and access to Final Gambit and Spikes. Most teams will probably prefer Shuckle for his bulk and ability to...

Baton Pass - its role in the metagame and possible solutions to nerf full Baton Pass chains

That's way, way, way too unlikely a situation to worry about. Plus, the player in this hypothetical situation should have thought about that during teambuilding. Punchshroom's Proposal is definitely the best-sounding plan I've heard thus far, and I'm all for it. It could limit teambuilding...

Destiny Bond in and of itself isn't a good reason to disregard any of those answers to Prankster Gourgeist. It's a great last-effort kamikaze move, but it, you know, comes with the price of losing Gourgeist. It's hard to call it a win for the Gourgeist player when they no longer have Gourgeist...

Is that a realistic concern? I can't imagine Char-X running Thunder Punch for Togekiss, as even with that move it's a risky match-up at best if Charizard doesn't already have a Dragon Dance in tow. 252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Togekiss: 228-270 (60.9 -...
