I have no idea how someone inexperienced in pokemon is actually supposed to get past the fire, Electric and Ghost totem battles. They are beastly. Especially with the protect+torment tactic the former 2 use.

I would just like to add something to the Inkay comments about it being dead weight. There is a MASSIVE saving grace to the thing. Topsy Turvy. You can use this on Totem Pokemon and reverse their boosts. This is INSANE and makes some of the harder fights a joke if your Inkay can stomach 1 turn.

In Japanese the move is called "Hell Thrust". So it seems more like the pokemon just lunges at the opponent covered in a dark aura. It is a similar thing to Heat Wave. In Japanese that was "Hot Wind" and made sense that it was caused by a bird flapping its wings.

It only appears once you have successfully beaten that pokemon. So you do still get that moment of wonder wondering what the fuck this new pokemon is when you first see it.

On Pikipek it is Rock Smash. Didn't double check, but if Crabrawler had the same animation then it has it too (not surprising there really)

No. Nothing has been mentioned on the matter. They just said pokemon can be hyper trained. If this was for some stupid reason to exclude older pokemon then it would ruin the entire point of it.
