A Mega-Manectric Bulky Offense Team
IntroductionA Mega-Manectric Bulky Offense Team
Hello everyone, I'm millionsunz, and this is my first RMT emerging from the USUM metagame. This is not my first time on Smogon's RMT, and this is not this my first time playing Pokemon competitively nor rating teams. I was a pretty avid Gen 6 OU player and team rater back in the day, even competing in an RMT tournament for the coveted badge. I played SM initially when it came out, but, as I'm sure you all know, school can be pretty demanding, and so I was unable to continue to play or even keep up with the metagame. With school winding down and all that jazz, I thought I'd give Gen 7 OU a shot, and boy was it boring. It was fun to try out all the new Gen 7 Pokemon like the Tapus and Magearna, but after a while I realized that every team was pretty much made of 10 different Pokemon (Lando, Heatran, Mag, Koko, Gren, Zygarde, Clef, Pex, and all those boring mons). Where is the fun in that? Where is the diversity? Where are the interesting sets that blow players away (and Gren running tech moves does not count as an interesting set). With this in mind, I turned to UU, which turned out to be far more interesting than Gen 7 OU. In UU, you have diversity. In UU, each team does not look the same, in UU, fun still exists. In UU, the heart of competitive Pokemon is still alive.
Teambuilding Process
It's quite long so I'll just throw it in a drop-down right below
I picked viable Pokemon that complement each other's strengths and cover each other's shortcomings.
Each Pokemon's role will be explained in their sets, I don't understand why some still put their building process here; it is usually all the same: "I started with X, which forms a nice core with Y, and these two are supported with Z which handles W for X and Y, and ya da ya da ya da we get it, you picked a Pokemon or core to start with and worked from there to fit your playstyle.

- Overheat / Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Mega-Mane was the focus of this team, and is its namesake. It was alright in Gen 6 OU, but it was a niche Mega whose ability to shift the tide in battle (or lack thereof) didn't really justify it's usage as the team's single Mega. In Gen 7 UU however, MegaMane is beast to say the least. It's extremely high speed stat is only beaten by two unboosted/unScarfed Pokemon, MegaAero and MegaBee, and so MegaMane is able to outspeed an extremely large portion of the metagame, and its nice SpAtk stat allows it to hit pretty hard as well. On the team, MegaMane acts as a part of the VoltTurn core, a strong Special Attacker, and as the chosen revenge killer due to it's godly speed tier. Volt Switch is a must-have for MegaMane, as it is arguably one of the best moves in the game currently, allowing MegaMane to gain momentum for your team. Thunderbolt is a strong STAB attack that allows MegaMane to hit Pokemon with a solid Electric-Type attack and not be forced to switch out. I prefer Overheat over Flamethrower to hit Steel and Grass-Type Pokemon as Overheat is able to pick up on some OHKOs that Flamethrower is not (see calcs down below). Overheat hits with more power, but if you desire the ability to hit with a Fire-Type attack and not lose power, Flamethrower is your move. Finally, HP Ice is used to smack the ever-present Gliscor, and in fact OHKOs most offensive variants of Gliscor.

Gliscor is a top-tier threat and a staple on most UU teams, and for good reason. Strong defensive and speed stats and a regenerative ability make Gliscor a pretty tough Pokemon to take down, if you don't have the right tools. Gliscor plays an important role on the team, acting as a soft (and I repeat SOFT) check to Pokemon like Scizor and Breloom, who can outspeed MegaMane with their priority moves. I opted for the SD Stallbreaker EV set to make Gliscor play a more offensive role on the team rather than more defensive one, and boy does the set not disappoint. SD Gliscor is a monster, being able to deal loads of damage to loads of Pokemon that think they can switch into it (see Calcs below). You don't really have to use SD on this set either, although I prefer to. Lack of Defog on any other 'mon make trouble you a bit, and so Defog can be run over SD. Edge can be run if you desire EdgeQuake coverage, and Taunt can be used if you really hate nonattacking moves, but for the team, SD Gliscor provides a nice offensive presence that is much appreciated. EQ and Roost are staples on Gliscor, providing it with a strong STAB attack and recovery for even more longevity. For the last moveslot, another attacking move other than EQ is recommended so that you are not walled by other Gliscor or Flying-Types, and I usually opt for Facade, but Ice Fang can be run to surprise other Gliscor (something that I have been seeing a lot of by the way). Overall, Gliscor provides a nice balance of offensive and defensive usage for the team, and is able to form a nice core with MegaMane, who can remove pesky Water and Ice-Types for Gliscor who in return avoids EQ and other Ground-Type attacks.

Ability: Levitate

Timid Nature
- Calm Mind / Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic / Psyshock

Latias is another extremely powerful Pokemon in the UU tier, offering great defensive and offensive capabilities. Most importantly however, Latias is able to break through certain Pokemon that MegaMane and Gliscor simple can't combined: Swampert and Seismitoad. With their immunities to Electric-Type attacks and resistance to Ground-Type attacks, in addition to their ability to dish out large amounts of damage with Scald and EQ/Earth Power, these two Pokemon looked extremely troublesome for the team. Latias rectifies this weakness. It's high offensive and speed stats allow it to hit hard and fast. Calm Mind can turn Latias into a potent sweeper or wallbreaker, setting up on Pokemon like Seismitoad and Swampert (as long as you're ok with it getting hit by a Toxic), and it can even win in situations against Specs Volcanion. Draco Meteor is an absolute nuclear attack, dealing loads of damage to most of the tier, and when combined with Dragonium Z, little is going to want to switch into Latias. Psychic is preferred over Psyshock simple because of it's higher base power and ability to hit Swampert/Seismitoad harder, as their Def stats are usually higher than their SpDef stats. Recover is a nice boost to the longevity of Lati as well. You could make Latias more defensive as well, replacing CM with Defog (as the team has no dedicated hazard remover), and replaced Dragonium Z with Leftovers, but I find that the offensive presence that Lati brings packing CM doesn't justify completely neutering the beast.

Lati has pretty good defensive stats, these are just some important defensive ones to show what Lati can switch in on, beware what it cannot switch in on (like Banded BP from Scizor)
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Knock Off
Scizor is another absolute powerhouse in the UU tier, and with a Choice Band, it hits harder than a truck. With it's extremely high Attack stat and useful ability in Technician, Scizor is a wonderful physical wallbreaker with some useful priority. Maximum Attack investment fuel's its Choice Banded hits, and non-Natured maximum speed investment makes sure that it hits before some of the slower Pokemon in the tier, like Alomomola. BP is absolute beastly move for Scizor, very little Pokemon are able to switch into it and take another one the following turn. U-Turn completes the VoltTurn core with MegaMane, and allows for the switching in of more defensive Pokemon like Muk or more offensive Pokemon like MegaMane; either way, you gain momentum by clicking U-Turn. SuperPower is a nice move to hit Pokemon like Blissey and MegaAggron pretty powerfully, and finally Knock Off is an all around useful move to hit Pokemon like Latias and remove the item of bulkier Pokemon like Hippo, Swampert, and Seismitoad. Bug Bite or Pursuit can be used on Scizor, but I find that SuperPower + Knock Off fits the team better than a stronger Bug-Type Attack, and Muk carries Pursuit as well. Overall, Scizor's fantastic offensive capabilities, and decent defensive ones, make it one of the most potent Pokemon in the metagame, and a must have for teams lacking a strong physical attacker or looking to create a VoltTurn core.

Muk-Alola @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fire Punch
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Pursuit / Shadow Sneak
The team was looking pretty weak to some strong special attackers in the tier, namely other Latias, Primarina, and Hydreigon. Alola Muk doesn't care about Hydreigon and Latias. With it's large HP and SpDef stats, in conjunction with an Assault Vest, Muk is able to eat up Special hits like they're eggs for a Sunday morning brunch. Maximum Attack investment is run to maximize the damage output of Muk, and maximum SpDef investment is used to boost Muk's bulkiness. No HP investment is really needed for Muk, as it has a high base 105 HP, but if you desire an even bulkier Muk you could sacrifice some attacking power for the extra bulk. Fire Punch is coverage for Scizor and Klefki, while Knock Off is a strong STAB attack that hits Psychic and Ghost type Pokemon like Latias and Gengar extremely hard. Poison Jab is another strong STAB attack, hitting Primarina and other Fairies brutally, and it can even pick up some poisons in conjunction with Poison Touch. I usually give the last moveslot to Pursuit to allow Muk to come in on and trap Pokemon like Gengar and Latias, but Shadow Sneak can be useful for revenge killing and a faster attack.

Seismitoad @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Toxic
Finally, the team lacked a reliable SR user and a way to deal with Pokemon like Scarf Krook and other fast Ground-Type Pokemon that carry coverage moves for Lati and Gliscor. Seismitoad fits this role wonderfully with its dual Water/Ground typing, which grants it plenty of resistances to cover the team's weaknesses, and the team cover's Seismitoad's Grass weakness very well. Seismitoad was picked over Swampert, another, arguably more, viable Water/Ground SR user because of Seismitoad's ability to come in on Scald and Liquidation and other Water-Type attacks and absorb them with Water Absorb. Seismitoad is not the bulkiest Pokemon in the tier, but it has enough viability as a switch in to strong physical attacks that I decided to throw it on the team. SR is a must have for the team, as it is required for some some key OHKOs or 2HKOs, while Scald is able to hurt Pokemon like Gliscor and Hippo. Earth Power is a nice STAB move that can maim Volcanion and Alolan Muk, and Toxic allows it to begin wearing down other annoyingly bulky Pokemon like Hippo and Swampert, or other Seismitoad.
