BW NU Ainsley Harriot's Fresh and Fabulous SPL Team in Minutes

Cased

Banned deucer.
Hey Smogon NU Community, some errr... most of you might not know me. But allow me to introduce myself. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMYNAMEISCASED"hehe bwoi"VICTORYYYYY. And I play NU, I mainly play on PO but my friends told me to tryout for SPL (jk I really wanted to play so I got my friends to hook me up with a team), but I got to bond with my newfound, dirty, indian, friend blarajan :]. He was a big part to my success and we built a shitload of fun teams, ranging from Whirlpool Wartortle/Fire Spin Charizard to Healing Wish Alomomola (my idea, fuck him). But this is definitely one of (if not) the best team I've made with him, and maybe ever.

During SPL I really wanted to abuse a lot of things I couldn't do outside of Smogon NU, and Gothorita was the Pokemon of choice for us. Ranging from the Calm Mind/Rest set or the Specs set which are both lethal sets and can really break apart a lot of the bulky offensive teams that seemed to be becoming popular after the Jynx/Scolipede ban, although both sets can easily tear through teams and having Gothorita essentially creates huge 50/50s for a shitload of teams if Gothorita is supported correctly for an offensive team (Voltturn basically). And if used on a balanced team it still causes the same 50/50s, it is definitely a really annoying Pokemon to play against (I banned it because I can't win 50/50s) and I think this team definitely shows off the heavily offensive pace of NU. I used this in SPL against FLCL and Annoyer, I won both games although I was a haxing (BAN ME PLEASE) against FLCL.

This title is a shout-out to Blarajan who I built this team with in 20 minutes, and to Ainsley Harriot hehehehehe bwoi, ALL MY POKEMON ARE NAMED AFTER THE BEST AINSLEY DISHES

The legend.

The team.

Golurk @ Passho/Yache Berry
Trait: Iron Fist
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs: 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Shadow Punch
- Ice Punch

After making the Normal Offensive Core and adding Gothorita, I knew I needed a Pokemon that had a good amount of resistances / immunities and could help me set-up hazards, and Golurk was my go-to Pokemon during all of SPL. Smogon NU Players don't know how lucky they have it to be able to use this thing in current NU, definitely one of the best Pokemon in the tier. Its immunity to Electric/Fighting helps the team out so much, and this particular set matches up so well against a lot of the other Stealth Rock Pokemon so I can threaten the opposing Stealth Rocker with the threat of a strong attack. The Dynamic Punch/No Guard set helps out against Piloswine for obvious reasons, but I really like being able to 2hko Musharna because it can get fairly threatening if it is well-played. The item helps me take a move or two in the beginning of the game and probably fire back a strong EQ, mainly helps against Samurott, Yache was for Jynx/Rotom-F but Jynx got banned. These EVs are used to outpace Band Golurk, that's about it, I could make it bulkier and make sure I outpace Roselia/Mola/166 Pokemon but there's so much odd Speed Creep around that area that I don't want to get into that.

Ainsley's Guide to Hot Smoked Salmon Kedgeree
STEP 1
Make the Ainsley Harriott Indian Biryani Rice

STEP 2
Melt the butter in a large frying pan.

STEP 3
Tip the cooked rice into a large bowl and add the salmon, hard-boiled eggs, parsley and double cream, season to taste and mix well to combine.

STEP 4
Add the Ainsley Harriott Indian Biryani Rice mixture to the pan and stir over a high heat until heated through.

STEP 5
Warm the naan bread according to the directions on the sachet.

STEP 6
Spoon on to plates and serve straight away with the warm naan bread.

Rotom-F @ Wide Lens
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe | 0 Atk IVs
- Will-O-Wisp/HP Grass
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Blizzard

I doubt a lot of people would believe me if I said that I never used Rotom-F seriously before SPL. This thing was a staple on so many of my teams because of its ability to seriously destroy Bulky Offense (Which I predicted would be the main playstyle for the SPL NU players), the BoltBeam STAB is nothing short of amazing, and Will-O-Wisp and HP Grass are interchangeable, I used HP Grass vs. players who I knew had Seismitoad fetishes but for the most part, Wisp is the superior option to neuter Piloswine and specific things that may be able to stop Rotom-F. The item is cool too, a lot of people know about my accidental use of Scope Lens vs. FLCL (rip) but I really give credit to Wide Lens for being the reason I didn't miss a Blizzard in all of SPL, I could probably run Thunder but I really don't feel like pushing my luck. I know in the Blarajan discussion before I started getting into the RMT it said there was Carracosta but this replaces it! SpecialCosta is an option over this btw.

Apple, Hazelnut, & Blue Cheese Salad
STEP 1
To make the dressing, whisk the vinegar, mustard and olive oil in a small bowl, adding a little water if the dressing becomes too thick.

STEP 2
Toss the chicory and spinach together and arrange on plates, then season to taste.

STEP 3
Scatter over the apple, hazelnuts and blue cheese. Drizzle the dressing on top and scatter over theAinsley Harriott Crushed Black Pepper and Sea Salt Croutons to serve.

Zangoose @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Toxic Boost
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD who cares
- Facade
- Quick Attack
- Night Slash
- Close Combat/Swords Dance

Another great Pokemon that seemed to get forgotten by a lot of NU Players. This thing is an absolute beast, obviously apart of the NormalCore with strong priority, after this thing gets its Toxic Boost, it basically OHKOs everything that isn't insanely bulky. There's really not much to say about Zangoose tbh, the choice of Swords Dance over Close Combat really just depends on how ballsy you are, and completely dependent on if you run HP Ground on Gothorita/are confident in your ability of Goth and Lurk to get rid of Rock/Steel-types. If you have the balls to do it, then go ahead. Jolly over Adamant is just my personal preference, I dislike having the E-Belt Rotom forms outpacing me, and Adamant doesn't allow Zangoose to outpace the Base 80 Pokemon as well, namely Gardevoir.

Crispy Parma Ham Asparagus Salad
STEP 1
Cook the eggs in a pan of boiling water for exactly 8 minutes. Meanwhile, sit a steamer or a colander over the eggs, put in the asparagus, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes until just tender. Drain the eggs and cool under cold water with the asparagus to prevent further cooking.

STEP 2
Melt the butter in a small pan then, with a wire whisk, beat in some lemon juice and season to taste.

STEP 3
Heat a ridged griddle pan. Cook the slices of Parma ham, two at a time in the hot pan for 30 seconds on each side. Drain on kitchen paper, then add the asparagus to the pan (making good use of the fat left from the Parma ham) for a minute or two to give light bar marks.

STEP 4
Shell and halve the eggs.

STEP 5
Arrange eggs on plates with the asparagus, topped with the crispy Parma ham. Drizzle over the lemon-butter dressing. Scatter the Ainsley Harriott Pecorino Croutons on top and finish each one with a grinding of black pepper.

Kangaskhan @ Silk Scarf
Trait: Mother of the year (Scrappy)
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Earthquake/Focus Punch

Being the 2nd part of my NormalSpam core, Kangaskhan is a huge part of this team, being able to come in and fire off Fake Outs and Sucker Punches is a big part to this team's success. It is a big way of how I can deal with a lot of weather Pokemon, mainly SunnyZard/RD Ludicolo and Seismitoad, since a lot of them take hefty damage from a Fake Out and Sucker Punch after SR. Again there's not much to say about Kangaskhan, since its main use is being able to fire off priority I chose Adamant as my choice of nature, since it needs all the power it can get in order to do its part. Focus Punch was kinda fun because Carracosta can do a number to my team if it is late-game so yeah. EQ is definitely better choice, Garbodor is a dick.

Baby Gem with Moroccan Cous Cous and Feta
STEP 1
Make the Ainsley Harriott Moroccan Medley Cous Cous.

STEP 2
Fold in the cherry tomatoes, feta and spring onions, then season to taste.

STEP 3
Arrange the Little Gem lettuce leaves on two plates or a large platter and spoon small portions of the Ainsley Harriott Moroccan Medley Cous Cous and feta mixture on top to serve.

Swellow @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
- Facade
- Quick Attack
- U-Turn/Brave Bird
- Tailwind/Brave Bird

My last and most awesome member of the team, Swellow! This thing seriously destroys a lot of my teams and I knew it was my team to use this in SPL. Tailwind is definitely one of my favorite moves in the game and it has saved my ass in numerous tour games (although I have not needed Swellow in the two I played with this team) Kangaskhan/Rotom-F/Zangoose are all serious threats if they have +2 Speed, since there's not a lot of Pokemon that can brag about being able to take on all Zangoose/Rotom-F/Kanga reliably, so I can usually be able to break holes through defensive teams by Voltturning into Goth and with combo of Rotom-F/Zangoose. While Offense can't take on a Tailwind'd Zangoose/Rotom-F/Kangaskhan most of the time. Brave Bird is possible over U-turn I guess, or Quick Attack. A lot of people dislike not being able to touch Golurk, but I carry GK on Goth. So it just depends what you like being able to do.

Possible Change: Scarf Braviary works fairly fine over this, but they do different things. Scarf Braviary revenges faster Pokemon a bit more reliably but Swellow plays more into the whole synergy thing with Tailwind. I'd say Tailwind offensive Braviary but it's a bit slow for this spot.

Lemon Bay Baked Fish with Wild Mushroom Cous Cous
STEP 1
Preheat the oven to 220C (450F), Gas mark 7. Smear the cod or haddock with the butter, sprinkle over the lemon rind and tuck in the bay leaves. Season to taste and place the fish in a small ovenproof frying pan and then pour around the vegetable stock.

STEP 2
Roast for 6-8 minutes until just tender – this will depend on the thickness of the fillets.

STEP 3
Make the Ainsley Harriott Wild Mushroom Cous Cousaccording to the directions on the sachet. Fork up the cous cous and fold in the parsley and chives. Keep warm.

STEP 4
Meanwhile, remove the cooked fish from the oven and transfer the cod fillets to a plate and keep warm.

STEP 5
Place the frying pan directly on the heat, then remove and discard the bay leaves, whisk in the tomato puree and add the cayenne pepper until slightly thickened.

STEP 6
Arrange the Ainsley Harriott Wild Mushroom Cous Cous in wide-rimmed bowls and place a piece of fish on top of each one and garnish with a small pile of the salad. Spoon out the reduced down vegetable stock on top.

Gothorita @ Choice Specs
Trait: Shadow Tag
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
- Trick
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
- HP Ground / Signal Beam / Thunderbolt w.e

The MVP. I believe that Shadow Tag is highly uncompetitive which is why I banned Gothorita on PO, but I'm glad I got reunited with it during SPL. It is incredibly easy to abuse, being able to take out 1 or 2 defensive Pokemon per game is incredibly important for this team to succeed. Even against offensive teams, Gothorita is usually able to trap the Stealth Rock setter or revenge and barely survive then OHKO or something. This thing really works wonders and I can be a bit Stall weak at times if I rush teams so it's nice to be so reliable against Stall. EVs allow me to outpace basically all non-Scarf Golurk, and I could add more for uninvested Base 85 or 90, 206 Speed basically, but idc. . HP Ground at the time was for Metang although it never did too much, it's nice for Probopass/Bastiodon as well, although I immediately Trick Bastiodons then spam HP Grounds. Signal Beam for Psychics, and honestly just use whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Chilli Pan Roasted Butternut Squash with Wild Mushroom Risotto
STEP 1
Cook the Ainsley Harriott Wild Mushroom Risottoaccording to the instructions on the sachet.

STEP 2
Heat the oil in a large sauté pan, add the butternut squash and season, then cook over a fairly high heat for about 5 minutes until lightly caramelised, tossing occasionally.

STEP 3
Reduce the heat, then add the garlic and chilli and cook over a gentle heat for another 2-3 minutes until the butternut squash is completely tender when pierced with the tip of a sharp knife, stirring occasionally.

STEP 4
Fold the butternut squash mixture into the risotto and season to taste.

STEP 5
Divide the risotto between warmed wide-rimmed bowls and scatter over the Parmesan shavings to garnish

STEP 6

Other Ideas: Try other types of squash, like pumpkin.

This has obviously been a successful team, and is definitely a cool one (and a fun one)! It has many twists which one wouldn't expect to see, but they definitely work. Normal spam is obviously a very good tactic in the current metagame, and shouldn't be underrated. This said, I still do worry about a couple of threats your team has to face. The first that I worry about is stall, which if built correctly can withstand most if not all of your attacks (outside of trick) and can take advantage of your status orbs to wear you down. The only other thing I worry about for this team is opposing Golurks, especially CB and Rock Polish variants. After a single Rock Polish, Golurk can beat your entire team without issue as long as Kangaskhan goes down. CB Variants also cause you issue due to your inability to switch into them.

Looking over the threats I just pointed out, a single simple solution is to run Defensive Mandibuzz over Swellow. She can single handedly wear down if not outright beat all relavant stall teams in the current meta, helping you to better support your normal types. It also packs the necessary typing and bulk to tackle all Golurks. Its ability to pivot for your rather offensive team to sponge hits as well as stall break gives the rest of your team invaluable support, and its ability to take out ghost types such as Missy for your two normals can also be a boon. Oh taunt is cute too cause fuck rocks.

Minor Changes:
Golurk: Colbur Berry > Yache Berry, as Jynx is now banned, and Skunk / Mandibuzz / Liepard are far more common
Rotom-F: I still can't believe wide lens is being used, but if you are gonna do it might as well go all the way and use Thunder > Thunderbolt. If you prefer to revert to T-Bolt + HP Grass again I highly reccomend E-Belt, which may be a more effective and reliable bluff, but Wide Lens is cute too.
Kangaskhan: Jolly > Adamant cause all the cool kids are running jolly Sawks now.

Fucking great team.

Hey man! Thanks for the rate, I usually fare pretty well against stall in my past experiences, I ran Thunderbolt after Metang was banned and I was usually able to give Specs to Lickilicky and do heavy damage to Alomomola with Thunderbolt, usually Alomomola is unable to WishStall afterwards since the 104/152 HP/SpD set is 2hko'd. But honestly it comes down to a shitload of 50/50s with Zangoose/Swellow, and Kangaskhan does a solid job once Alomomola is gone, and after Rocks, Double-Edge 2hkos Mandibuzz with a bit of previous damage after rocks depending on EVs. But then again I'm just talking about FLCL Stall haha.

Colbur Berry is definitely a solid option for Golurk, I just kinda wanted to make sure SD Samurott didn't get huge chances to set-up, and living a +2 Waterfall actually won me an SPL Game, but Colbur is probably the better option. I'll test it out of I ever bother to ladder on Showdown. Adamant on Kangaskhan is necessary to an extent since it is the main reason why I don't struggle with weather-based teams. The power of Fake Out and Sucker Punch is a huge deal, which is the main reason I chose Adamant. Against Sun, Zard after Rocks isn't a problem since Fake Out/Sucker takes care of it easy, since preserving makes no sense against a team like mine with so much priority. And Victreebel takes like 69-82% from that combination which is a huge deal for my team. Meaning after LO I can essentially make it useless, also stalling Sun turns is really beneficial.

Also on the topic of Mandibuzz, this team thrives off momentum and applying pressure right after something dies, Mandibuzz doesn't exactly keep momentum like Swellow does, or support the team as well as a new member can. While I agree that Swellow is probably the most replaceable member, I'm a bit nervous of how Mandibuzz would fare against anything but stall, although it offers a Psychic/Ground immunity which my team definitely appreciates, the offensive pressure is really what helps this team succeed. Considering my longest game with this was about 21 turns, I thrive off the ability to pressure the opponent after something dies or I double switch a lot to keep that pressure. Mandibuzz doesn't allow me to do that to the extent where it can be a viable part, I will test it nonetheless!

Thanks for the rate :] fren

This is one of my favorite NU teams in SPL  I was more impressed by how many of the NU teams were vulnerable to Rotom-F moreso than the normal spam tbh.

Your stall team and Charizard team were also golden :afrostar:

CARRY ON YOUR BASED LIFE CASED :pimp:
