Summary of thread: Ever faced a powerful team that sent you looking for a brick wall to bang your head against or spent the day just wondering how you lost so hard. These teams can define metas yet everyone knows those moments don't last forever and sooner or later the teams flaws will be exposed for the world to see and a group of Pokemon will emerge to break it. The purpose of this thread is to find said weaknesses and create cores that can break the teams of infamy because deep down Everyone knows no team is truly invincible.

This project aims to look and see how certain mons that work together to exploit said weakness, in other words a core that can break/destroy a team. This can help fine tune teams in order to prevent them from getting destroyed by a simple core. Anyway without further ado, here are the rules.

Rules:
1. Each week I will pick a team and during the submission period, everyone can talk about what cores they think breaks a team and submit a core that they think is the most threatening to that team. In other words, what core they think destroys the selected team and why?

2. Cores can have 2 or 3 mons, and sets as well as at least 2 lines of explanation will be required as to how that core destroys the team for that week. You can also talk about the weaknesses of the team being broken if you wish. In addition, all Pokemon nominated must be on the viability list or have "extremely" well known niches. Anybody who posts crap like Special Machoke will have their posts deleted.

3. After the submission period has passed, everyone will vote on the core that they believe is the most threatening to the team. Each person will be allowed 1 vote. You can also use the voting period to submit ideas on a team you would like to see broken next. You cannot vote for yourself.

4. The winner of each round will be placed in the Hall of Fame!!

5. Good luck, have fun, and most importantly no one liners. n_n

Team of the Week - Round 12!
Muk + Trapper by Anty

The team is incredibly standard for supporting a Curse Muk sweep. Probopass can trap most Steel-types that completely wall Muk, which serves as the team's main wincon since it can beat just about anything else after a few curses. Leafeon provides some wallbreaking while also checking Golem and other Ground-types with Synthesis to stay healthy for longer games, and Scarf Mime revenge kills threats like Monferno and NP Chatot. The team is supported by a Clefairy/Vullaby backbone, which can be incredibly difficult to break through with Muk support.

Muk @ Black Sludge
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Poison Jab

Probopass @ Air Balloon
Ability: Magnet Pull

Our first lucky team to start off the thread is a potent team made by RawMelon that is based around Monferno. The team itself is not only one of the greatest sample teams but it has managed to peak the ladder with a fairly respectable record so breaking this squad won’t be an easy feat!

Crutch

The lack of Monferno in these sample teams is disturbing, so let’s change that! Monferno fills so many useful roles on offensive natured teams that it’s hard not to use it. It checks dangerous mons like Mightyena and Pawniard, gives the team some priority and can act as a late game wincon. This is so splashable because it’s guaranteed to put in work each and every game and forces the opponent to play in very obvious ways so that they don’t lose to this. Ferno is so good some might call it a crutch...

Colbur Berry Grumpig was chosen as blanket check for many of the mons gaining popularity in PU such as Machoke, Roselia, Rotom-F, Monferno, and Mr.Mime. Taunt is great utility for slower-natured bulky teams you’ll often find on ladder and makes it hard for stall to function. This is just the standard set and not much explanation is really needed. This synergizes with Monferno which beats most dark types that would otherwise trouble pig. Pig also can take on opposing Monferno and Machoke which helps Boufflant and Golem, respectively.

SubWisp Rotom-F is really good against ladder and you’ll find that with a sub up you can sometimes just win or take down multiple mons and make it easy for Floatzel and Ferno to clean up. Self-explanatory really.

AV Boufflant is another one of those mons I use on bulky offense often, especially when I’m using Monferno! Checks pretty much every special attacker and traps psychics such as Grumpig, Mr. Mime and Kadabra so that Monferno can potentially sweep. This team lacks a solid water switch-in so use this wisely try to pursuit trap a Floatzel, Basculin or Simipour trying to get out. Facade is cool to switch into scalds without fearing burns.
Edit: Forgot that I mostly ran Facade to help with SubWisp Rotom-F as well

Golem is the best offensive rocker and is useful as an electric, flying, and normal resist. Also gives the team some priority which is always useful.

I chose Floatzel as the team’s scarfer because it can act as a water check if need be while still cleaning very effectively. Baton Pass gives you free momentum if your opponent tries to switch out which is always appreciated on offensive teams.

Loving this "analysis" threads, here there is my core:

Monferno @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- Mach Punch
- U-turn

Swanna @ Life Orb
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Hurricane
- Roost
- Defog

Monferno puts in a lot of work against this team. OHKO's Bouffalant and Golem (when the sturdy is broken) and deals a lot of damages to all the other members of the team. With rocks up and some cheap damages and Monferno out of the way, Monferno sweeps pretty easily. I chose life orb + u-turn over eviolite + sd because of the immediate x1.3 damage. Choice band can be a good option as well.
Swanna is another big treath, countering the opposing Monferno for a Monferno sweep and checking Floatzel.

Take Azelfie

More flags more fun
Monferno @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Mach Punch

Leafeon @ Choice Band
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- X-Scissor

A lot of does not like SD Monferno, Jolly outspeeds Adamant so it can get the kill if weakened, Grumpig same case, Rotom-Frost died to CC and even Mach dies to Mach Punch at +2, CC kills Bouf and Golem isn't a problem if you break its sturdy previously. Floatzel is scarf you can force it out if it isn't going for Hydro Pump. Leafeon can help to get through Golem's Sturdy as do a great amount of damage to Grumpig and even remove Monferno's Eviolite making it really easy to kill.

4. The winner of each round will be placed in the Hall of Fame with their core and will have their vote count for double in subsequent rounds.
Why should their vote count double, that just sounds like a weird way to shake votes for no particular reason, just because they got voted as the winner once doesn't necessarily mean their opinion should hold more sway.

Floatzel @ Choice Band
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Aqua Jet
- Return

Leafeon @ Yache Berry
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Return

This team just doesn't have switchins to physical waters, the best way to handle float is annoying it with scarf float or taking a hit with bouff. This is where leafeon capitalizes on the obviously scarfed float / weakened bouffalant to break through the team, outspeeding everything but the float which it has yache for. Basically floatzel+rocks is sufficient but leafeon is the nail in the coffin here.

Basculin @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Superpower
- Crunch

Simisage @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Gunk Shot

Adamant Basculin outspeeds everything on this team (bar Floatzel and Rotom-F), and can OHKO or 2HKO the entire team with it's coverage. Pair it with Scarf Simisage, something that can outspeed Modest Scarf Floatzel and has the coverage to hit the entire team super-effectively (except Monferno) and you get two pokemon that can easily overwhelm this team. If rocks or spikes are up, this core will easily run through the team with very few problems.

Gourgeist-Small @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 152 HP / 104 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Will-O-Wisp
- Foul Play

Ampharos @ Assault Vest
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Signal Beam

Lumineon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Defog
- Scald
- U-turn
- Toxic

Gourgeist-Small when it can find opportunities to get in can be a very annoying mon for the team, as grumpig and monferno are the only ones that can effectively shut down a sub seed cycle, but both are relatively easy to wear down. I went with a volturn duo of Ampharos and Lumineon to accompany this. AV ampharos effectively checks Floatzel, Rotom-Frost, and Grumpig, while providing a slow Volt Switch to get Gourgeist in. This also lures Golem in to either Signal Beam to break sturdy (hence why its over Hp Ice), or to make a predicable double, as bouffalant, the only other switch in on the team is countered by Gourgeist-small as well. Lumineon is to check Monferno and Golem, while providing another means of getting Gourgeist in.

Thanks for the suggestion, I changed it.

Ninjask @ Choice Band
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-Turn
- X-Scissor
- Aerial Ace
- Night Slash

Quilladin @ Eviolite
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Wood Hammer
- Drain Punch

Grumpig @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Spa / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Focus Blast

This team has no bug resists. At all. Which Ninjask exploits the hell out of. It easily U-Turns out versus everything except Floatzel, which can be handled with good predicting. U-Turn wears down Ninjask's checks, setting it up for X-Scissoring and Aerial Aceing to victory. Offensive Quilladin sets up Spikes, which is handy for wearing down the team, and Taunt prevents Golem from setting up Stealth Rock to limit Ninjask switches. Wood Hammer threatens everything except for Monferno and Bouff, and Drain Punch hurts Bouff switch-ins. Finally, Grumpig scares the Monferno, outspeeding and OHKOing it with Psychic. Taunt, again, shuts down Golem shenanigans. Finally, Shadow Ball and Focus Blast are coverage that hurts the rest of the team nicely.

Machoke @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Atk / 188 Def
Impish Nature

Murkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sucker Punch
- Hidden Power Grass
- Pursuit

Others have already mentioned the teams slight Fighting weakness with Monferno, but I feel Machoke can cause the same amount of problems due to the teams reliance on Grumpig. With Pursuit Murkrow, it isn't too hard baiting Grumpig in and KOing it, as with Grumpig being the initial switch into Machoke, if it knock's the Colbur berry off Grumpig is in range of Murkrow's Pursuit even if it doesn't switch out (even dpunch + rocks does that). From then on, the team has a really difficult time KOing machoke, especially bulkier ones which have come a bit more popular recently. I cannot remember what the spread does exactly, but it always avoids the 3HKO from Bouffalant and Monferno, and it avoids the 2hko from Floatzel, Rotom-f, and Golem. Though with chip Machoke is possibly 2HKO'd by Rotom-f, Murkrow does threaten it with Sucker Punch and even Brave Bird.

It would appear Megazard is the winner of the first round. Congratulations for making into the hall of fame and RawMelon for graciously donating his team.

This weeks team come from the racist, Italian Stallion cryalot. Sand Doge is a prominent sand team in PU that includes some of the most threatening mons including Sand Rush Stoutland and Monferno. It also manages to cover a lot of ground with only 6 mons, making it incredibly hard to take down without smart plays.

Sand Doge

I started with Hippopotas + Stoutland, the former being a good physical wall and stealth rocker, the latter being able to outspeed every pokemon in the tier thanks to sand rush.
Max SpD Roselia gives the team a good switch into the majority of the special attackers in the tier and provides Spikes.
I chose Cryogonal because is the best rapid spinner for this kind of offensive teams.
Altaria is the counter to opposing Monferno. The evs spread allows it to outspeed neutral nature 60 base speed pokemons. I chose roar for the 4th slot as it gives me the possibility to phaze away the opposing pokemons that want to set up after i go for a draco, and because roselia has spikes. Hippo has whirlwind for the same reason.
Finally, Monferno is the second good wincon. With sd, it represents a good late game cleaner, and can heavily damage ghosts like Misdreavus and Gourgeist for Stoutland
