Return is Ursaring's STAB move of choice, boasting good Base Power with no drawbacks. Bulk Up boosts both Ursaring's Defense and Attack stats, enabling it to bolster its uninvested Defense stat while also giving it the power to break through defensive Pokemon such as Metang and Probopass. Rest provides Ursaring with a reliable means of recovery, and Sleep Talk ensures that Ursaring does not become passive once it is asleep.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Special Defense investment is used to make Ursaring as specially bulky as possible, allowing it to best combat special attackers such as Articuno and Choice Scarf Rotom-F. Guts boosts Ursaring's Attack when it is afflicted by a status condition, which can be useful to punish Pokemon that may try to cripple Ursaring with Will-O-Wisp and increases Ursaring's damage output when it is asleep. Leftovers grants Ursaring passive recovery, allowing it to avoid the 3HKO from Zebstrika's Thunderbolt and Choice Scarf Mr. Mime's Dazzling Gleam.

Usage Tips
========

Bulk Up Ursaring is very threatening to defensive teams due to the fact that most Normal-type counters such as Mawile, Golem, and Bronzor are inherently passive and aren't able to deal with Bulk Up Ursaring's better staying power compared to the likes of Stoutland and other Ursaring variants. Make sure to use this to your advantage when looking for opportunities to set up to win; there are some situations, especially when facing teams without a Ghost-type, where Ursaring will face little resistance and only needs to be played smartly in order to sweep. When playing against offensive teams, it is advised to not try setting up too early. Offensive teams will often have multiple Pokemon that are powerful enough to overwhelm Ursaring. In most instances, Ursaring should only be using Bulk Up to apply short-term pressure to Pokemon such as Leafeon or just throwing out attacks until the Pokemon that can force it out have been removed. Keep in mind that while Bulk Up Ursaring is invested to make itself as bulky as possible, it should not be used as a wall. Ursaring only barely avoids the 3HKO from most special attacks without any prior damage; keep in mind that there is often the potential for entry hazard damage or just prior damage taken to cause such 3HKOs to happen. Do not overload Ursaring by trying to use it to perform too many roles. Bulk Up Ursaring works best as a dedicated late-game sweeper, so try to keep it as healthy as possible until you need it.

Team Options
========

With Ursaring only having a single weakness to Fighting, Pokemon such as Pelipper and Altaria should be some of the first to be considered as teammates, since they can handle the likes of Monferno and Combusken. Pokemon such as Golem and Bronzor are helpful, as they can handle powerful wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Chatot while also setting up Stealth Rock to chip away at Pokemon such as Gourgeist-XL and Vullaby. Knock Off support from Pokemon such as Tangela and Clefairy is useful to remove items such as Leftovers and Eviolite from defensive Pokemon while also removing damage-boosting items such as Golem's Choice Band and Rotom-F's Life Orb, making it easier for Ursaring to find setup opportunities. Pokemon such as Metang and Golem can support Ursaring by carrying Toxic to lure and weaken Gourgeist-XL, one of the best counters to Bulk Up Ursaring thanks to its Ghost typing in combination with reliable recovery and Foul Play. Vullaby can take on a large number of these roles, providing a check to powerful wallbreakers such as Stoutland and having the ability to remove items with Knock Off while also removing entry hazards, which prevents Ursaring from being slowly whittled down by hazard damage.

Moves
========

  • Return is a powerful STAB move with no drawbacks
  • Bulk Up allows Ursaring to boost both its attack and defense, boosting up so that it can break through passive defensive pokemon such as metang, probopass etc
  • RestTalk gives Ursaring a reliable means of recovery, while also giving it a way to remain somewhat threatening even when asleep

Set Details
========

  • Max HP + SpD because Because Bulk Up is boosting Def, so u want Ursaring to be as specially bulky as possible in order to take on SpA Pokemon such as Zebstrika and Articuno
  • Guts gives you a boost if something tries to wisp you to stop your sweep, it also activates during rest to give ursaring an additional damage boost while asleep
  • Leftovers gives passive recovery that is useful for any defensive setup pokemon. (avoids some special 3hkos ie zebstrika/rotom-f tbolt, and any scarf mime attack besides focus blast since 1 bulk up walls scarf psyshock if that even a thing

Usage Tips
========

  • Ursaring is able to beat a lot of the Pokemon normally used as physical walls (mawile, golem, bronzor etc) since it can set up on them with bulk up to the point where they cannot threaten ursa
  • ursaring also beats passive setup pokemon like clefairy (it beats muk if it gets 1 turn to boost before it comes in) clef especially is easy setup fodder
  • when playing against offense its best to throw out attacks to weaken the incoming wallbreakers that would look to pressure ursa. setting up is a waste of time unless the pokemon that can force you out have been removed, so try to weaken them first by doubling or just attacking into them
  • facing bulkier teams you likely need to remove 1 pokemon (gourg, taunt/encore mon) and then you should be good to set up and sweep. bu ursa is very threatening to defensive team due to the fact that most normal checks are inherently passive and arent able to deal with the fact that bu ursa has better staying power than guts/quickfeet ursa or band stout
i think it's important to mention that this thing really isn't bulky enough to be a special wall, don't rely on it to take on strong shit permanently because it's not hard for rotom or w/e to chip their way through this

Team Options
========

  • Pokemon that can handle Fighting-types just say monferno it's the same thing (altaria, peli)
  • check to generally strong wallbreakers (stoutland, sd mawile, band golem) which Ursa may be susceptible to (pokemon such as Duosion which can set up on the Pokemon that usually threaten Ursa is a particularly good teammate since they both weaken the same defensive Pokemon (clefairy, vullaby)
  • knock off support is pretty nice to remove leftovers/eviolite from defensive pokemon. makes it much easier for ursa to break through defensive stuff (vullaby is good for this, knock clef too)
  • ursa is walled by ghosts, they're kinda hard to pursuit trap/ (band pursuit floatzel is actually kinda cool) so gourg 'lures' (pokemon that can weaken it) like band golem, icebeam basculin are probably your best bet toxic golem/metang/other things that can lure it like we discussed
hazard removal, with chip a lot of the decently strong but not crazy special attackers go from barely missing 2hkos to getting them
qcstamp.gif
i dont have much to say about this but 1/3

I Setting up early isnt too bad cuz it can often rest it off later, however they might be forced to risk something like leafeon just to weaken it Offensive teams will often have multiple Pokemon that are powerful enough to overwhelm Ursaring. Simply throw out attacks in the early game until the Pokemon that can force it out have been removed again even with 1 BU you are much more threatening to physical offensive mons. removed the changes i disagreed with from sobi's check and added my own, GP 1/2

also pls post in the queue that your analysis is gp ready, reason this one has been sitting for over a month is because we simply had no clue it needed checks (and we wouldn't have stumbled on it naturally either, no one looks at this forum anymore), not a lot else to it, could have been prevented very easily :<
