Dugtrio [QC 0/3]

[OVERVIEW]

  • Dugtrio's niche lies mainly in its ability to trap and KO Primal Groudon after Stealth rock with Tectonic Rage, making it a great partner for set-up pokemon that complement this like Geomancy Xerneas, CM Primal Kyogre, and Hone Claws Zekrom.
  • It can also trap and remove steel types like Magearna and Solgaleo, making still the main partner of choice Xerneas.
  • That's all it has to offer however, its incredibly frail and weak outside of its Z-Move, so it usually becomes useless after trapping something.
  • If its niche is not at all appreciated on a team, its best to not use it at all.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Earthquake in conjunction with the Z-Crystal gives Dugtrio acces to Tectonic Rage, which takes bulky steel types and Primal Groudon out of the picture.
  • Memento halfs the oppenents offensive pressense at the cost of Dugtrio, possible giving teamates set-up oppurtinies or at least the momentem edge.
  • Stone Edge OHKOes Ho-Oh but doesn't do anything else.
  • Toxic can cripple something after Dugtrio has nothing else to do, Stealth Rock is a utility move and sucker punch picks of severely weakened targets or things weak to it like Mewtwo and Mega Gengar.
Set Details.
========
  • 252 speed and attack evs are used to maximize Dugtrio's offensive presence.
  • Groundium Z gives Dugtrio Tetonic Rage which is the only reason to use it in the first place.
  • Adamant is the nature of choice, as jolly only gives you the added benefit of trapping unboosted Mega Lucario while making it harder to trap Primal Groudon and lowering dugtrio's damage output.

Usage Tips
========

  • Bringing in Dugtrio safely is the big job here, U-Turn, Double Switching, and Saccing something or playing aggressively are all ways you can achieve this, as Dugtrio lacks the bulk to switch into attacks.
  • Dugtrio should only focus on trapping its main targets, specifically Primal Groudon, Bulky Steel Types, and other miscellaneous targets like Tyranitar and Zekrom
  • Once Dugtrio's trapping targets are gone and its Z-Move has been used, then Dugtrio has lost most of its use and can be sacced.

Team Options
========

  • Geomancy Xerneas is a dream partner for Dugtrio, as Dugtrio traps and removes its main checks: Primal Groudon, Magearna and Solgaleo.
  • Other pokemon that appreciate the aforementioned mons removed are also great partners, such as Primal Kyogre and Deoxys-Attack are also great.
  • Dugtrio is incredibly frail, so U-turn support helps it immensely and getting in safely, such users include Yveltal and Mega Scizor.

Other Options
=============
  • Dugtrio's movepool is incredibly scarce and small, and there isn't anything very valuable outside of Earthquake, so their isn't really any other options, except Screech for Blissey.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Pokemon**: Things on the bulkier side such as Zygarde-C and Buzzwole can just shrug of Dugtrio's attacks and retaliate back.

** Levitating Foes**: All flying types not named Ho-Oh laugh at Stone Edge and OHKO it in return, things like Mega Salamence, Celesteela, and Rayquaza.

**Faster Foes and Priority**: Anything that can move before Dugtrio easily forces it out, Faster Pokemon in the forms of Mega Gengar, Mewtwo, and Deoxys-Attack (although they all don't appreciate Sucker Punch) and about all priority moves one shot it like Yveltal's Sucker Punch and Rayquaza's Extreme Speed.
