Pros:
-Access to the rare Magnet Pull means Alolem can trap Steel-types such as Corviknight and Heatran, preventing them from manually switching out.
-Tera means a lot of mons like to pick Steel as their Tera type, allowing for more trapping targets
-Typing and more expansive movepool in comparison to Magnezone allows Alolem to trap and take out Heatran and Scizor, something that Magnezone can't do without Tera.
-Good physical defense means Alolem can switch into physical attackers to trap them and take their first hit such as Corviknight and Kingambit.
-Galvanize gives Alolem's Normal-type moves a nasty punch, including Explosion, which becomes a nuclear blast after Galvanize and STAB.

Cons:
-Tera means a trapped mon can change its typing to allow itself to manually switch out
-Alolem is unfortunately quite slow, needing significant speed investment to get the jump on it's many, already slow, trapping targets. For some targets Alolem straight up need a Choice Scarf, such as Jirachi(which still outspeeds with max speed) and Offensive Heatran.
-Typing is not so great either, it holds many weaknesses, including Water, Grass, Fighting, and a 4x weakness to Ground-type attack, while Rock and Electric don't really have good synergy offensively.
-Weak Special Defense means it can't switch in on specially offensive threats well, even neutral hits will chunk you hard, making it harder to switch in and trap threats like Heatran and Empoleon.
-That mf Gholdengo just had to be part ghost, can't trap it

Tera Options:
Alolem can use whatever Tera type it needs to in order to more safely eliminate whatever mon you want removed. Water for Empoleon and Heatran, Fighting for Kingambit, or just Flying to dodge any Ground-type moves from anything that has them. Ground is also an option as a general good defensive type and giving EQ that extra punch needed to really give anything weak to it a headache.

Example Sets:

Scarf Trapper
:golem_alola:
Golem-Alola @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
Tera Type: Water / Fighting / Flying
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Brick Break
- Wild Charge
- Fire Punch

The standard, with scarf and this speed investment, you outspeed every relevant native Steel-type in OU, and the rest goes into bulk. You can also just go max speed, allowing you to outspeed anything up to base 91 speed. EQ dispatches Heatran and Jirachi(watch out for sets with very high speed investment), Brick Break shatters Kingambit, Wild Charge sends Empoleon and Corviknight packin', Fire Punch is for Scizor and is just good coverage in general, but if you're wanting to cover other targets, specifically their teras, you can put a few thing here such as Iron Head for Tera Fairy Kingambit or a Rock move.

Galvanizer
:golem_alola:
Golem-Alola @ Choice Band
Ability: Galvanize
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Double-Edge
- Fire Punch

Explosion is delete button on anything that isn't straight up immune, it's very funny.

A lead set could be possible I guess since this gets Sturdy, SR and Explosion but not a big fan honestly since it can't really threaten Great Tusk well.

Being a heat-seeking missile to eliminate Heatran and being able to threaten Kingambit pretty much always means this mon is always going to have a niche imo. If Tera didn't exist lmao

I've always found it funny that in Gen 7, this mon was better in OU than it was in the actual lower tiers it found itself in. Sort of a similar thing as to what happened with Avalugg at some points.

I think this Pokemon will be useless in OU. Doesn't even outspeed Kingambit, which is probably the only Pokemon you want to trap, and Kingambit can just Tera into a Bird or Fairy to escape it anyways. Gholdengo can't be trapped, Heatran is an OK target, but it can also Tera and it is somewhat mid currently, and Corviknight has U-Turn.

Maybe this mon will have more use if Ferrothorn and Skarmory come back, but for now, I think it will have no niche in OU.
