Metagross @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Steel Roller / Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch
- Stealth Rock
- Stomping Tantrum / Toxic

Metagross's combination of power, bulk, and typing not only makes it very efficient at trading damage against most foes but also allows it to reliably answer a large swathe of the metagame, including top threats such as Kyurem-B, Rillaboom, Tapu Fini, Diancie, and Necrozma. Metagross in DOU notably runs Steel Roller as its main STAB move, exploiting the near-omnipresence of Terrain in order to deal monstrous damage. Shuca Berry lets Metagross comfortably check Zygarde, as it can then take even a Choice Band Thousand Arrows and hit back hard with Ice Punch. Metagross also shines as one of the tier's best Stealth Rock setters, which further punishes the switches it can force. Stomping Tantrum and Toxic are interchangeable on the last moveslot, the former dealing with opposing Metagross and Fire-types such as Incineroar, Heatran, Volcanion, and the latter putting bulky threats like Porygon2 on a timer. At least one Terrain-setting teammate such as Rillaboom or Tapu Fini is required to make sure Steel Roller is available when needed; while Meteor Mash is usable, it's noticeably weaker.

  • I would remove the first sentence and just lead with what you talk about in the second sentence (doesn't seem that important to me and you are already over the character limit).
    • Also fine to keep if you think it's essential and can still get under the character limit.
  • Add in Necrozma or Psychic spam to the list of threats it checks.
  • Reword the Incineroar mention to Fire-types, since it's also nice for OHKOing Heatran (especially if Metagross can obtain the speed advantage, but it can also catch it on a switch) and letting you actually hit Volcanion.
  • If we have characters, I would like to see mentions of more specific partners that cover Metagross' weaknesses but if we run out of characters that is okay!
