3. Cancer Bats - Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones
2. Death Angel - Relentless Retribution
1. Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini

lolwut. That was one of the worst albums I heard all year.
Well earlier lil wayne was straight up rap but when he came out with re-birth, it was full of electric guitars and a much heavier sound which I wasn't expecting and I loved it. Being a metal fan naturally heavier music appeals to me more which is not necessary but true in my case and you got to admit some of the songs were great.

He has some great lines in that album. Go back to it and hear it again...

Some of the songs were ok, most sucked. And Wayne's lines were below average. If you want to go hear good Wayne rhymes go download a copy of his mixtape Da Drought 3. It blows anything else he's ever done out of the water is one of the reasons I respect Wayne's rapping abilities. It won't have the metal production (which tbh I personally felt was poorly done, and I do like my fare share of classic metal, but to each their own), but Da Drought 3 is for sure his lyrical peak.

I'd say my all time picks for 2010 releases are Lawn Knives and Wrinklecarver by Gobble Gobble

I've never been super into electropop, but decided to give them a listen as the vocalist was formerly in a hardcore band, and they are honestly one of the best and freshest bands in Canada. They are absolutely amazing live aswell.

I've also heard more 2010 albums in the past few days than I've heard in the entire rest of the year, so my list is semi-invalidated I guess but not really. I'm not gonna remake it but I'd probably change a few of them

oh great I was wondering when you will release yours
:(

Is that sarcasm or?

If so, good one.

If not, thank you.

This is a strange post.

If you're actually interested, I'm doing the ordering tonight, will write honorable mentions essays over the next day or two, and then get to work on twenty five song blurbs and twenty five albums blurbs. It's going to be a lot of work, but it amounts to a year of effort, so I hope you guys (and everyone I show) likes it.

In no particular order (though you can probably guess my favourite album...)

Caribou - Swim
Vampire Weekend - Contra
James Blake - (all the EPs)
Everything Everything - Man Alive

2010 is nearly over and i have made my top 5 albums of the year that i listened to

1. arcade fire - the suburbs
ok yeah it's the suburbs it's like a sequel to funeral in a way everyone's heard this everyone loves this my favourite song was the suburbs

2. crystal castles - crystal castles
i love crystal castles and crystal castles sounded a lot more gritty than crystal castles which was enjoyable my favourite song was empathy

3. vampire weekend - contra
not as good as vampire weekend but still really great. i liked this album because the lyrics were a lot more 'fun' my favourite song was giving up the gun

4. angus and julia stone - down the way
angus and julia stone have nice voices and they are pretty good at instruments and stuff. lyrics of every song really move you. this album won an aria so it was critically acclaimed in australia my favourite song was hold on

5. klaxons - surfing the void
a lot of people will disagree with me and they'll say that surfing the void is mediocre at best but it was my favourite psychedelic album of the year and was weird, really weird my favourite song was echoes

10. "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" - Arcade Fire
9. "Fuck You" - Cee-Lo
8. "Dancing On My Own" - Robyn
7. "Tightrope (Featuring Big Boi)" - Janelle Monáe
6. "I Can Change" - LCD Soundsystem

10. Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty - Big Boi
9. Forgiveness Rock Record - Broken Social Scene
8. Light Chasers - Cloud Cult
7. A Badly Broken Code - Dessa
6. Everything In Between - No Age

Can't figure out the rest yet.

Empire Ants by Gorillaz has single-handedly put my faith back into the mainstream music industry. It is a magnificent song, and Plastic Beach is a great album as well.

I also enjoyed Crystal Castles II. For me it was a good deal heavier than the previous album; being a fan of "heavier" music in addition to electronics means I ended up a fan, although it did take a while to grow on me at the start. Speaking of electronic music, Immersion by Pendulum is worth a listen, although Hold Your Colour still kicks the shit out of it.

posted this awhile ago here

in its entirety (this is going to be a bit tl;dr but i didn’t get a chance to do this last year and i want to do it some justice)

honourable mentions:

big boi - sir luscious left foot (never really got into it before i started finalising the list but it is a damn good album)
pendulum - immersion (catchy but isn’t really as good as in silico which means it definitely didn’t compete with the rest of the great shit we had this year)
of montreal - false priest (i had to do this one in comparison and it just didn’t live up to the expectations i had after getting into of montreal via the sunlandic twins and satanic panic)
minus the bear - omni (opening half of the album is super catchy but it really started to peter off for me at around track four, and by the end it was pretty weak)
gorillaz - plastic beach (i’m warming up to this still but seriously after about my seventh listen i just don’t see the hype, honestly)

best album art of ‘10:

lil b - red flame (evil edition)

on the list itself:

II was honestly completely deserving of album of the year, i just immediately fell in love with the album on first listen and to date still blast that shit in my car all the time. the middle / end of the album just shines, it’s completely jammable the whole way through, and they did the lo-fi portions of the album (Fainting Spells / Doe Deer) absolutely beautifully, wrapping Celestica like some fucked up security blanket. it’s a work of art

2/3/4 were pretty hard for me and i messed with the ordering for a couple days before becoming at least content with an order, but in my book they’re tied on their own merits. i’ve become a huge (BAN ME PLEASE) for james murphy since listening to this is happening for the first time and i have to say it’s a far more mature album than sound of silver or the eponymous record. treats is a spectacular debut by two incredibly talented people, can’t wait to see what they do here soon… VW goes without saying, the album is already a classic

kanye west gets the obvious plug here, what a great album, i don’t even have words, just a question, who reupholstered that pussy?

i’ve talked about the national before, high violet is so incredibly good and heartbreaking at the same time. i simply adore berninger’s voice and in this album he actually shows off his range, which both floored me and made me love them even more. i’m not gonna lie, i cried the first time i heard Lemonworld

hexadecagon, my god, what a soundscape, i liken it to Kid A whenever i suggest it to people nowadays. short, but fantastic. i wish these guys were a bit more appreciated, cause holy fuck, this album is definitely their best yet.

all day was amazing and it is as good as if not better than feed the animals. i will fight you on this.

LC! barely made it on here, i had to reacquaint myself with them… not as good as Hold On but it’s still a stellar album, i _need_ to go see them sometime.

had WP put a little more effort into Expo 86 it would have been a far better album, i just adore the sound of this album but it could have been so much better

yeasayer got old but it’s still catchy as shit

i feel like there were two kinds of people when Congratulations got released, people who hated and people who liked it. i fucking loved this album.
