Introduction
Welcome to the Battle Pyramid, one of 7 battle facilities in the Battle Frontier of the Emerald version of Pokemon for the Advanced generation which is the pyramid building at the upper right side in this battle amusement park. In this topic, we are going to present the wild pokemon you may encounter when you get to the Battle Pyramid. There may be many random pokemon trainers to encounter and to be aware of whom if you defeat they'll give you a random hint, otherwise they'll ridicule you for your defeat. The main focus will detail what to expect on your adventure in the Battle Pyramid as far as wild pokemon.

This is a legacy game, why should I do the Emerald battle frontier?
True it's a legacy facility, but win each round here and you keep earning more battle points.

So why do I want to earn battle points?
While battle points can be used to earn nice prizes such as a choice band which you can now easily duplicate with the cloning trick along with many other items and minerals, there are move tutors that will teach pokemon certain moves that are no longer learnable once they migrate over to Diamond & Pearl through the Palpark feature. Don't you want to teach Blissey Seismic Toss or Charizard Fire Punch? There are many other moves that can only be available in Emerald through earning battle points.

Wild Pokemon Determination
The Pokemon you battle depends on which floor you're on, and which round (set of seven floors) you're on. The first six floors have a low encounter rate, then the seventh doubles the encounter rate.
To know which Pokemon will be on any given floor, find the floor on the chart below, then look at the numbers listed. Then, look for the Pokemon listed further below for the desired round's results. Match up the numbers with the Pokemon.

Floor 1: Rate=4% 1 1 1 1 2 2 3 3 3 4 3 4
Floor 2: Rate=4% 2 2 2 2 3 3 4 4 4 5 5 4
Floor 3: Rate=4% 3 3 3 3 4 4 5 5 5 6 5 6
Floor 4: Rate=4% 5 5 5 5 6 6 7 7 7 8 7 8
Floor 5: Rate=4% 5 5 5 5 6 6 7 7 7 8 7 8
Floor 6: Rate=4% 6 6 6 5 7 7 8 8 8 8 8 8

Thanks a lot for this guide and your efforts, EE. I very much like how you started it out with the real reason to play the Battle Pyramid, as it is both necessary for a game that's almost three years old and actually makes you want to play the Pyramid for the Tutors and possibly other reasons.

If this is going on the site, though, you may want to remove the personal bit at the beginning, as that's not really in keeping with our articles.

Thanks Jumpman16, in an attempt to revise the introduction to be in a 3rd person without sounding like Wikipedia, here it goes:

Former quote:
Introduction
Hello I am Expert Evan. You may know me as a moderator at Smogon, but I am also a random trainer you may encounter in the Battle Frontier in the Emerald version. Here I'm going to present the wild pokemon you may encounter when you get to the Battle Pyramid which is the pyramid building at the upper right side in this battle amusement park. I for one may be one of many many trainers that may be lurking in the shadows and you'll know it's me because I'll always say "EVERY BATTLE HAS A SMELL..." when I introduce myself. If you defeat me, I may give you a hint or ridicule you if I win. Hmmm, one time I had a nidoking as my companion and it was holding a quick claw item and did horn drill as its first move 3 times in a row, that was so much fun. He should've used a sturdy type that time but part of it is luck in getting through you know.

True, it's a legacy facility, but win each round here and you keep earning more battle points.
And then you need to scan for things that need to be capitalized properly like the Pokemon and item names like here

Don't you want to teach blissey seismic toss or charizard fire punch?
Otherwise looks good. I hate doing the Pyramid though, it's so tedious and even the wild Pokemon are uber and you can hardly flee from them.

First, excellent tutor guide, this will help me if I ever pick up the Pyramid again (I lost in floor 31 and haven't been back yet).

However, when I saw this topic, I was hoping that somoene had cracked the run away formula for the Pyramid - a really strange thing that keeps me up at night. One "you cannot escape" will lead to statusing or major damage; or you might be run down on PP if you choose to fight. One of the reasons why I don't like it too much is because I can't be sure whether I can flee from them or not.

Another thing to consider is - how much BP? Is the Pyramid worthwhile, relative to the time spent canvassing the seven floors? I've been dasdardly stuck for a long time, and many guides I read say to pick up everything. Other BF area + 15BP on the better + about 20 combined runs at the Tower and Pike = 900 BP.

Relatively you'll have an easier time in the L50 version over the Open Level version of the Battle Pyramid. In the L50 version wild Pokemon appear from L31-49, and for Open Level the range is L61-99. This is from my own personal experience of the Pyramid at least.

As an update, I have replaced the introduction as per Jumpman16's recommendation. So far as battle points, yes I will try to edit them in when I can since a purpose of doing the Battle Pyramid after all does involve earning battle points. I too had found it easier doing level 50 since a hyper potion didn't need to be used as much as compared to level 100 though after the gold round you may encounter wild pokemon at higher levels.

As per each round, I usually preferred not to run away from wild pokemon but to OHKO them and with a pickup pokemon in round 1 try to obtain some of the rarest necessary items early on.

Some pokemon are designed to work in specific rounds more than others as Houndoom with flamethrower/crunch/roar/protect owns round 6 with the trappers while Heracross with guts activated can tear apart round 3 and own Brandon's silver symbol team.

I haven't read it, but the comments of others make it seem like this guide is up to par. Is it ready to be HTMLized?

I think EE wants to add stuff about Battle Points to this guide before it's put on the site.

I'm going to see if I can find battle points for each round, otherwise it should be good for HTMLizing.

Edit: was unable to find them online unless I attempt to play each round again.

I just reread my journals. On 1/24/07 I wrote that I got 5BP for scaling a paralysis-plagued pyramid, which means round one. On 1/29/07 I faced Brandon and earned 16BP. My journal on the Pyramind ends on 3/9 when I got owned by a Fire Blast Gyarados on floor 31, and I haven't been back since.

Would it be practical to design a simple 3-pokemon team for each floor? I tried doing that for a while and it gave me some success, got to Floor 70 but couldn't beat Brandon's trio of birds.

Here's what I used for Floors 1-7 for example:

Gligar
EV: 252 Att / 252 Speed / 6 HP
Adamant nature
Hyper Cutter
Earthquake
Aerial Ace
filler
filler

Hitmonlee
EV: 252 Att / 252 Speed / 6 HP
Adamant nature
Limber
Earthquake
Hi Jump Kick
Return
Rock Slide

Charizard
EV: 252 SpAtt / 252 Speed / 6 Att
Hasty nature
Flamethrower
Earthquake
Aerial Ace
filler

reserving HTMLization. please give some input on how to go about dealing the colored blocks, do i use the same colors as used in the guide, or do i use some different colors for better contrast?
