It was a normal day for the Rogueport Regulars. Another day of living in the most wretched town in all of the region. Then some weird newcomers calling themselves the X-Nauts picked a fight with Mario who was assembling Mario’s Team. The Glitz Pit saw these two new gangs in a gang war, saw that it was good, and promptly joined in the fight. The prize? The seven Crystal Stars, the power to crush the wielder’s foes beneath them. But those weren’t the only factions... some say there are others in the shadows, working in secret to gain these prizes for nefarious ends.

Welcome to Paper Mario TTYD Mafia.

Game-Specific Rules:

  1. This game will have aliases. There will be no anonymous forum. There will be NPC aliases as well as fortresses described in the following rule. Most actions will affect NPCs, but most actions will not affect fortresses. Actions and lynches will target aliases rather than Smogon usernames.
  2. 7 of the aliases in the game will be fortresses guarding each of the Crystal Stars. The Crystal Stars are items that can help whoever acquires them. The more Crystal Stars you have, the more powerful they get. Many items in the game will be keys to the fortresses. To use keys, you may send the hosts a PM with “Day X - Use <Crystal Star name> Fortress keys #x, #y, etc on <alias>”. The player who uses the final key will obtain the Crystal Star. You may only go to 1 fortress each day, and when you go to a fortress, you cannot vote in the lynch or use any day abilities. If you use keys on an alias that isn’t a fortress, the keys will be passed to that alias.
  3. Each alias can send an anonymous message every cycle by PMing the hosts with “Day/Night X - Message <alias>”. Your target will receive the message and know which alias it came from. You may send the message “Searching for Crystal Stars”, and if the alias receiving the message is a fortress and still has its Crystal Star, it will respond with “Crystal Star found” the following cycle. You may also send “Searching for the <name of Crystal Star>”, and if the receiving alias has that particular Crystal Star, you will also receive the same response the following cycle. Beware though, as players can send the response message to act as if they are a fortress. Anonymous messages cannot be blocked by normal means.
  4. Items are in this game. To pass an item, send the hosts a PM “Day/Night X - Pass <item> to <alias>”. Passing items has the lowest priority of any action. Upon the death of a user holding items, the items will go to the killer, or a random member of the faction with the most lynch votes on that user. Upon winning the game, normal items will be randomly distributed among all remaining aliases, and Crystal Stars will return to the alias they started the game with. In that case, players will not have to use keys on the fortress, and will have to use a thief action to retrieve the Crystal Star.
  5. The lynches in this game will be done with a private voting system. To vote, PM the hosts with “Day X - Vote <alias>”. After the day ends, the alias with the most votes will be lynched, and all aliases that voted for that alias will be publicized. You may vote No Lynch, and any aliases voting No Lynch will not be publicized. In the case of a tie, nobody will be lynched.
  6. The game will start on Night 0. However, the only thing players can do during night 0 is send anonymous messages. Night 0 will be 24 hours because of this.
  7. Do not give out your trust easily. First off, most players will have approximately half the game as enemies, so you never know if you are talking to an enemy. Additionally, there may be mole abilities and recruitment roles. Also, host updates, your role PM, or results PMs may lie to you or mislead you. However, if you know a user AND their alias from your role PM, they are on your faction and can be trusted.
  8. Many players will have safe claims provided in their role PMs. Provided with these safe claims are the win condition, team ability, and team steal and kill rates of the faction that role would fit in. If you do not have a safe-claim, you may request one for a particular faction, but know that all of the best ones are already taken.
  9. Each team has a factional kill, thief, and team-specific ability. If more than one player on a team attempts to use the same factional ability in the same cycle, they will all fail. Team-specific abilities will be posted in the OP of the game for the purposes of fake claiming. If the usage rate of a factional ability changes, you will only be notified if you are on that faction or have a safe-claim to that faction in your role PM.
  10. If a limited-use ability, including things like team kills, fails for whatever reason, it will still count as being used.
  11. When a faction wins, it is removed from the game. The game will end when all players have either won or lost.

Typical Rules:

  1. No screenshotting, impersonating, adding to conversations, or otherwise “breaking the game” (enforced at hosts’ discretion). Do not edit or delete posts. You may only dead-talk to people if their username AND alias is mentioned in your role PM.
  2. No sharing of Role PMs, results PMs or host conversations. Describe them in your own words.
  3. This game will use the #circus channel on the Social Forums Discord, located here.
  4. Send all actions in the same conversation in which you receive your role PM. You may tell the hosts your actions in Discord, but it is recommended to send them on Smogon.
  5. This game will have the traditional Day/Night cycle. Deadlines for all cycles will be 48 hours.
  6. You will be notified if an ability fails. If you receive no result indicating it failed, assume it succeeded.
  7. If something in a role PM conflicts with something in the rules, the role PM will take precedent.
  8. You may ask about action priority, but you will most likely not receive an answer.

Team abilities and action rates:

Your team ability is, once per night, you may PM the hosts with “Night X - Meeting with <alias1>, <alias2>, <alias3>, and <alias4>”. You will determine if a majority of the meeting is made up of members of the Rogueport Regulars, including yourself.

Your team steal is active once every two nights. Your team kill is active once every two nights.
Your team kill functions differently than most other teams. To send in a kill, you must also send in a number of Smogon usernames and/or aliases that are alive and are allied with the Rogueport Regulars. The current number required is 8, but you know that this may decrease under certain conditions. If at least 2 of the usernames or aliases submitted are not allied with the Rogueport Regulars, the kill will fail. You will not know if a kill fails for this reason or for other reasons.


Your team ability is, once every two nights, you may PM the hosts with “Night X - Look up <name of Crystal Star> Fortress Key #x”. To use this ability, you must be holding a key to the same fortress you are looking up. You will determine what alias is holding the key you looked up.

Your team steal is active once every two nights. Your team kill is active once every three nights.


Your team ability is, once in the game, you may PM the hosts with “Night X - Abduct <alias1>, <alias2>, and <alias3>”. You will prevent your targets from performing any actions, and also make off with all of their items.

Your team ability is, once per night, you may PM the hosts with “Night X - Glitz Duel <alias>”. If you have more items than your target, your target will be unable to perform any actions the following day (this includes voting, going to fortresses, item passing, and sending anonymous messages.) If your target has more items than you, he will take any items you are holding.

Your team steal is active once every two nights. Your team kill is active once every three nights.
