Doubles Porygon2

[OVERVIEW]

Porygon2's fantastic bulk with Eviolite, access to reliable recovery, and only one weakness make it a solid Trick Room setter. Porygon2 also has an expansive support movepool and useful abilities, which make it flexible an easy to put on teams. Porygon2 is unique because it is not weak to Ghost- and Dark-type attacks, which many Trick Room setters are, making it able to set up Trick Room in front of Tyranitar and Aegislash. However, Porygon2 can be very passive without offensive investment and deals insignificant damage against targets that are not weak to its coverage moves. Since Porygon2's bulk is reliant on Eviolite, it is very weak to Knock Off, and makes it extremely weak to Spore and Taunt. With most sets not running Protect, Porygon2 can be a sitting duck for foes like Tapu Lele.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Trick Room lets Porygon2 and its teammates take advantage of their low Speed stats. Ice Beam threatens Landorus and Mega Salamence and offers decent coverage in general. Thunderbolt completes BoltBeam coverage alongside Ice Beam and is a reliable option to hit Tapu Fini and Volcanion effectively. Foul Play is an offensive option to damage Mega Metagross, Aegislash, and Hoopa-U. Lastly, Recover keeps Porygon2 healthy, which also helps it set Trick Room multiple times and take advantage of opposing Protect that is frequently used to stall out Trick Room turns

Set Details
========

The given EV spread aims to boost Porygon2's overall bulk to give it sufficient longevity to consistently take heavy hits, making it easier to set Trick Room. Eviolite gives additional bulk and is an irreplaceable item for Porygon2. A Special Attack boost from Download can be useful to give Porygon2 offensive presence, but Download should only be used if running two special moves. If Porygon2 is running Foul Play, Trace is an option, as it lets Porygon2 copy useful abilities such as the ubiquitous Intimidate.

Usage Tips
========

Set Trick Room as soon as possible if it benefits Porygon2's team, especially if the opposing team is weak to Trick Room . However, don't do this if the opponent also brings slower Pokemon like Amoonguss and Stakataka. Use Recover freely to keep Porygon2 healthy, making it harder to KO and letting it set Trick Room multiple times. Hard switching Porygon2 into hard hitters such as Mega Metagross and Life Orb Tapu Koko must be avoided, as it needs its health to reliably set Trick Room. Stay away from Knock Off, since the loss of Eviolite makes Porygon2 unable to tank damage from hard hitters. Against obvious Taunt and Spore users such as Mega Gengar and Amoonguss, it's usually better to switch out or attack rather than set up Trick Room. Porygon2 is generally too weak to use for just throwing out attacks, so it is better to switch out Porygon2 to slow attacker if Trick Room is already up.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that are slow enough to take advantage of Trick Room such as Tyranitar, Heatran, and Tapu Bulu work well with Porygon2. Fake Out support from Scrafty helps prevent Taunt and Roar users from stopping Porygon2 from setting up. Redirection from Amoonguss eases pressure when setting Trick Room, and Amoonguss pairs especially well with Foul Play variants of Porygon2, appreciating their ability to deal with Mega Metagross, Aegislash, and Hoopa-U and set up Trick Room so it can more effectively spread sleep. In return, Amoonguss can take on Water-types to free Porygon2 from running Thunderbolt. Tapu Fini makes a great teammate, as it can check opposing Fighting-types and protect Porygon2 from being crippled by Spore and Toxic. Having an alternative plan to beat fast attackers without relying on Porygon2's Trick Room is mandatory, so carrying secondary Trick Room setters such as Diancie and Necrozma is a good idea for full Trick Room teams, but making your team functional outside Trick Room by adding Mega Salamence or Tapu Koko also works.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Ally Switch is an option over Thunderbolt to force opponents to predict hard and makes Porygon2's presence on the field unignorable. Icy Wind is an alternative form of speed control over Trick Room. Blizzard can be used over Ice Beam on hail teams. However, Porygon2 needs to have a ton of Special Attack investment to make Blizzard worthwhile, which is quite suboptimal for a defensive Pokemon. Sets without Trick Room can use Analytic due to Porygon2's mediocre Speed stat. Toxic enables Porygon2 to wear down defensive threats that otherwise wall it such as Assault Vest Kyurem-B. With a Download boost, Shadow Ball able to deal heavy damage to Mega Gengar and Blacephalon.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Scrafty and Terrakion threaten Porygon2, as they deal huge damage to it with their powerful STAB moves, while Porygon2 can't do much back.

**Strong Attackers**: Even though Porygon2 can survive powerful attacks such as Deoxys-A's Psycho Boost, the lack of Protect makes Porygon2 vulnerable to double targeting and easily overwhelmed. Porygon2 also struggles against bulky hard hitters that are not weak to its coverage such as Tyranitar and Tapu Lele.

**Setup Attackers**: Bulky setup Pokemon such as Mega Scizor can comfortably take Porygon2's attacks and set up safely in front of it.

**Taunt**: Mega Gengar, Tapu Koko, and Tapu Lele make Porygon2 unable to use Trick Room and Recover, leaving it with not much to do. A special mention goes to Mega Gengar, since it has the ability to trap Porygon2 afflicted with Taunt.

**Knock Off**: Porygon2 is very reliant on Eviolite for its bulk, which makes it vulnerable to Knock Off from the likes of Landorus-T and Scrafty.

EVs are not optimal

Sassy 248 HP / 184 Def / 20 SpA / 48 SpD hits the same amount of raw stats as Relaxed 248 HP / 92 Def / 20 SpA / 140 SpD, which has 8 EVs remaining. There's jump points in HP, Def, and SpDef so you can have a lot of choices, for instance something like 252 HP / 96 Def / 20 SpA / 140 SpD or something like that would be giving you 1 free HP and 2 free Def points compared to what you have, and would probably be the spread unless theres a SpDef benchmark you can get with those 8 extra leftover EVs.

Mention Tapu Fini and Volcanion as your primary Thunderbolt target.

You forgot to change the part about Salamence because Mega doesnt get OHKOed by 20 SpA P2 Ice Beam unlike non mega :^) Also the 20 SpA EV benchmark is for normal Salamence which doesn't exist in SM. You can KO 0 / 0 Lando without any EVs, 252 / 0 Lando doesnt get KOed unless you're willing to go up to neutral 168 SpA or Quiet 64 SpA.

Don't have time to do a full check right now, but QC talked a bit about the spread and we'd like to use 252 HP / 136 Def / 20 SpA / 100 SpD; Quiet. This ensures that Ice Beam OHKOes 0/0 Mega Salamence and Life Orb Marshadow's Close Combat misses out on the OHKO, with a dump in SpD.

You should also expand on what's in OO right now, at least saying what uses each move has and what it would replace. Add Shadow Ball, Protect, and Analytic too.

Since Marshadow's gone, let's use this spread: 252 HP / 88 Def / 16 SpA / 152 SpD; Quiet Nature. That lets P2 take LO Scrafty's High Jump Kick, same SpA benchmark as above, dump in SpDef

EDIT: Here's the check I promised... only a few days late
  • [Overview] Decent abilities and a fair amount of flexibility
  • [Set Details] Clarify that Download should be chosen with Thunderbolt, and Trace with Foul Play
  • [Usage Tips] Try to avoid hard switching into Porygon2, it needs its health so reliably set Trick Room
  • [Team Options] For the other TR setters, I'd advise ones that aren't also weak to Fighting-types, so maybe mention Diancie or Necrozma instead of Stakataka
  • [Team Options] Redirection from Amoonguss eases pressure when setting Trick Room and Amoonguss pairs especially well with Foul Play variants of P2, appreciating the hard hit on Mega Metagross/Aegis/Hoopa-U and taking on Waters to free up Porygon2 from running Tbolt
  • [Other Options] Remove Tri Attack, Protect, and Magic Coat
  • [General note] Remove all mentions of Marshadow (the only one I saw was at the end of Other Options, but I may have missed one)
Do that and you're good for QC 1/2 and may go ahead and write this up!

Moves
  • switch Landorus and Salamence in their order, should be in order of viability.
  • put mega metagross first as its the most viable of the three foul play targets.

Usage Tips
========
“For the same reason, hard switching into Porygon2 must be avoided as it needs its health so reliably set Trick Room.”
  • Revise this sentence, p2 can definitely hard switch into passive targets and resists like aegislash/fini/av kyu-b, it just has to watch out for really strong mons like meta, LO/specs koko, icium kyu-b.

“But dont do this if opponent also bring slower Pokemons.”
  • Give some examples of common trick room checks, amoonguss/stakataka for example.

Team Options
========
“While, making your team functional outside Trick Room also works.”

  • Give examples of options you can run on more semiroom oriented teams with p2. What comes to mind for me is salamence/tapu koko (which also gives e-terrain for tbolt and prevents spore.

Other Options
=============
  • Move Icy Wind > Blizzard, its just a better move overall and I think its more common and useful.
**Strong Attackers**
  • You forgot a ‘g’ in strong here

Good work, do these and you can move it along to GP

Hi! In addition please make a couple of these minor-ish changes that I think are important
[Set Details] It would be worthwhile here to explain, first of all, what the purpose of the EV spread is, otherwise you're kind of just rattling off benchmarks which isn't instructive to players. In this case, a general statement like "The given EV spread aims to boost Porygon2's overall bulk to afford it sufficient longevity to consistently take heavy hits, making it easier to set Trick Room" or something like that.
[Team Options] Mention that Amoonguss can also take advantage of the Trick Room that Porygon2 sets to more effectively spread sleep
[Team Options] The recommendation of "secondary Trick Room setters" seems like it'd only be suited to a fullroom team. In addition to adding Koko and Mence per miltankmilk's suggestions, try to distinguish between fullroom and semiroom teams in your writing at this point.
