Smeargle (QC 0/3)

Status
Not open for further replies.
[OVERVIEW]
*Smeargle is the best suicide Sticky Web setter in Ubers.
*Its near-infinite utility options and decent speed gives it an edge over Shuckle.
*However, it relies on its Focus Sash to survive hits due to its pathetic bulk.
*A lack of offensive presence makes Smeargle easy setup fodder and Taunt bait.
*Finally, low overall stats forces Smeargle to run a suicide lead set in order to have any sort of viability in the Ubers tier.

[SET]
name: Sticky Web Setter
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Nuzzle
move 3: Spore
move 4: Rapid Spin / Skill Swap / Taunt
item: Focus Sash
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Timid
evs: 80 HP / 96 Def / 80 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
*Sticky Web is the only reason to use Smeargle, and lowers the speed of grounded opponents.
*Nuzzle cripples taunt users such as Mewtwo and Yveltal, as well as Mega Diancie, which counters Smeargle otherwise. It also halves the opposing Pokemon's speed, which can sometimes allow Smeargle to use Sticky Web the next turn.
*Spore cripples everything thats not a Grass-Type and lets you get up Sticky Web for free.
*Rapid spin clears hazards set by the opponent, preventing unnecessary chip damage to your team.
*Skill Swap prevents Smeargle from being useless versus Mega Sableye, as it can Spore Sableye or get Sticky Web versus it after removing its Magic Bounce.
*Taunt prevents defoggers such as Giratina and Yveltal from clearing your Sticky Web away. It also can prevent opposing hazard setter.

Set Details
========
*Max Speed is mandatory for outspeeding opposing leads such as Primal Groudonn, defensive Ho-oh, and defensive Yveltal, while also speed tying with other Smeargles.
* A Timid nature is preferred to minimize Foul Play damage and to maximize Speed.
* The given EV spread maximizes Smeargle's bulk, allowing Smeargle to survive weaker hits such as Defensive Primal Groudon's Lava Plume most of the time, and two Lugia's Ice Beams.
*Own Tempo is Smeargle's only useful ability and can prevent Marshadow's Swagger, but generally won't come into play.
*Focus Sash allows Smeargle to take at least one hit and get up Sticky Web or Nuzzle, and is mandatory due to Smeargle's pathetic bulk.

Usage Tips
========
*Smeargle should almost always be a lead as setting Sticky Web should be prioritized.
*Use Nuzzle on predicted taunts from the likes of Yveltal, Mewtwo, and Tapu Lele
*Spore Pokemon slower than Smeargle such as Necrozma-DM, defensive Groudon, and defensive Ho-oh, but be wary of Sleep Talk users such as Primal Kyogre.
*If your opponent has a Diancie, lead with something that can beat it such as Primal Groudon, then double into Smeargle as they switch out their Diancie.
*Once Sticky Webs are up, don't preserve Smeargle because it could be setup fodder for your opponent.

Team Options
========
*Smeargle fits best on hyper offense teams. As such, Smeargle's best teammates are generally hard-hitting offensive Pokemon.
*Slower Pokemon that rely on setup are the best teammates because they can take full advantage of Sticky Web.
*Offensive Primal Groudon can set Stealth Rock, and benefits from the opponent's lowered Speed. Other varients of Groudon such as Mixed Rock Polish also work well.
*Arceus-Fairy can threaten Mega Salamence, Giratina-o, and Yveltal with Judgement, all of which can Defog away Sticky Web. It can then use them as Calm Mind fodder.
*Similarily, Xerneas can pressure the aforementioned Defoggers.
*Calm Mind Lunala takes advantage of support Arceus forms and can use them as setup bait.
*Dragon Dance users such as Rayquaza and Mega Gyarados can also take advantage of Defoggers.
*Mega Lucario outspeeds the entire unboosted tier with Sticky Web up, including fast Arceus formes, Marshadow, Choice Scarf Xerneas, and Mega Gengar, and can be difficult to revenge kill, especially when boosted.
*Finally, slower wallbreakers such as Kyurem-W, Zekrom, and Dusk Mane Necrozma make good partners.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
*Magic Coat stops Taunt
*Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes can be used, but Smeargle is inconsistent in getting up more than one hazard.
*Explosion and Memento can prevent Rapid Spin or Defog for one turn.
*Whrilwind is an option to phaze out predicted Substitute users that try to counterlead such as Kyogre.
*Toxic Thread can be used to slow down faster Defog users such as Arceus-Water and, combined with Taunt, can prevent the opponent from Defogging. It also poisons the opponent, chipping it down.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Magic Bounce**: Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye prevent Smeargle from setting up Sticky Web. Mega Diancie doesn't like being paralyzed by Nuzzle however, and Mega Sableye can be beaten with Skill Swap.

**Substitute**: Substitute users such as Primal Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Mega Gengar, and Zekrom easily block Spore and Nuzzle from Smeargle, preventing Smeargle from crippling them.

**Taunt**: Taunt users such as Mega Gyarados, Yveltal, Mega Gengar, and Mewtwo prevent Smeargle from getting Sticky Web up. They must be wary of Nuzzle, however.

**Defog**: Defog users such as Arceus-Ground, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O can remove Sticky Web.

**Mega Kangaskhan**: While uncommon, Mega Kangaskhan can easily outspeed and OHKO Smeargle through its Focus Sash with Body Slam due to Parental Bond.

Not QC, just some suggestions
[OVERVIEW]
- Smeargle is the best suicide lead web setter in Ubers
- Its utility options and decent speed gives it an edge over Shuckle. (I'd say its capability of using almost every move)
- However, it relies on its Focus Sash to survive hits (Since its very frail defense-wise)
- No offensive presence makes Smeargle easy setup fodder.
(Mention that its highly predictable despite being able to learn almost every move)

[SET]
name: Sticky Web Setter
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Nuzzle
move 3: Spore
move 4: Rapid Spin / Skill Swap / Taunt
item: Focus Sash
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
- Sticky Web is the only reason to use Smeargle, and slows down opponents.
- Nuzzle cripples taunt users such as mewtwo and yveltal, as well as mega Diancie, which counters smeargle otherwise
- Spore cripples everything thats not a Grass-Type and lets you get up webs for free. (Instead of cripples; puts to sleep would be better here)
- Rapid spin clears hazards set by the opponent, preventing unnecessary chip damage to your team.
- Skill Swap lets you Spore Sableye or get Sticky Web versus it.
- Taunt prevents defoggers such as Giratina and Yveltal from clearing your Sticky Web away. It also can prevent opposing hazard setters such as? (Which ones? The one Smeagle outspeeds? Primal Groudon)

Set Details
========
- Max Speed is mandatory for outspeeding opposing leads such as Primal Groudonn, defensive Ho-oh, and defensive Yveltal
(Also state the nature, maybe it should be Jolly even for a negligible increased damage output unless I'm missing something)
- Max HP allows Smeargle to survive weaker hits such as two Lugia's Ice Beams.
- Own Tempo is Smeargle's only useful ability and can prevent Swagger Marshadow, but generally won't come into play. Technician can also be used for a minimal damage increase. (For damage increase, be sure to state that Jolly nature should be used)
- Focus Sash allows Smeargle to take at least one hit and get up Sticky Web or Nuzzle.

Usage Tips
========
- Smeargle should almost always be a lead.
(Maybe it should also be added that avoid sending Smeargle as the lead if you predict the opponent to send their otherwise mid-game attackers like Zekrom as the lead to take advantage and setup against Smeargle and get away in the battle. Bring it later in the game when either one of your Pokemon faint or from a slow U-turn)
- Prioritize setting webs.
- Nuzzle on predicted taunts from the likes of Yveltal, Mewtwo, and Tapu Lele
- Spore Pokemon slower than Smeargle such as Dusk Mane Necrozma, defensive Groudon, and defensive Ho-oh, but be wary of Sleep Talk users such as Primal Kyogre.
- If your opponent has a Diancie, lead with something that can beat it such as Primal Groudon, then double into Smeargle as they switch out their Diancie.
- Once Sticky Webs are up, don't preserve Smeargle because it could be setup fodder for your opponent.

Team Options

- Smeargle fits best on hyper offense teams. As such, Smeargle's best teammates are generally offensive.
- Slower Pokemon that rely on setup are the best teammates because they can take full advantage of Sticky Web.
- Offensive Primal Groudon can set Stealth Rock, and benefits from the opponent's lowered Speed. Other varients of Groudon such as Mixed Rock Polish also work well.
- Arceus- Fairy can threaten Mega Salamence, Giratina-o, and Yveltal with Judgement, all of which can Defog away Sticky Web. It can then use them as Calm Mind fodder.

- Magic Coat stops Taunt
- Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes can be used, but Smeargle is inconsistent in getting up more than one hazard.
- Explosion and Memento can prevent Rapid Spin or Defog for one turn. (Also add in that they allow you to get rid of Smeargle and prevent opposing Pokemon to play around it /set up after Webs are up. Furthermore, Memento can pave way for easy setup for a teammate on the subsequent turns)
- Whrilwind is an option to phaze out predicted Substitute users that try to counterlead such as Kyogre.
- Toxic Thread can be used to slow down faster Defog users such as Arceus- Ground and, combined with taunt, can prevent the opponent from Defogging. It also poisons the opponent, chipping it down.

This has been lying around at the bottom for a decent amount of time. I'd change the formatting to the correct one (asterisks over dashes for "bullet points"), and see about providing more detail in the Overview as it feels rather lacking. It was also last updated in 2017 so see if there are any "modern" improvements to be made - the meta has advanced and things are becoming more stable.

I'll try to get more discussion internally on this but do what you can to buff this and make QC life easier.

ok so I added a bullet to the overview and changed the bullets.

80hp / 96def / 80 spd is more bulky than 252hp so i changed that

if there's anything outdated since usum came out lmk

name: Sticky Web Setter
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Nuzzle
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Toxic Thread / Whirlwind

Skillswap and Rapid Spin in moves.

Make this change and any other necessary changes to match this set. QC will take another look after this. I highly recommend you go more indepth with your team options because it just looks like use x y z now.

I guess I can AM this since I used this mon more than 100 times this week?

[OVERVIEW]
*Smeargle is the best suicide Sticky Web setter in Ubers.
*Its near-infinite utility options and decent speed gives it an edge over Shuckle.

* I can see where you are coming from; I would personally emphasize Smeargle's access to every move in the game that allows it to be the best sticky web user that has some exclusive traits; it can run stuff like spore to troll any unprepared teams, use nuzzle to mess with taunt users, and use rapid spin itself.
tl;dr: merge two points and make it more detailed

*However, it relies on its Focus Sash to survive hits due to its pathetic bulk.
*A lack of offensive presence makes Smeargle easy setup fodder and Taunt bait.

* The first point applies to every suicide leads.
* The second point, add that smeargle can somewhat circumvent this with Nuzzle.

*Finally, low overall stats forces Smeargle to run a suicide lead set in order to have any sort of viability in the Ubers tier.
* Smogon analysis dex page shows smeargle's stats and it doesn't take a genius for one to figure out "smeargle is shit as offensive mon" so I would say the problem with its one-dimentional role and being somewhat predictable despite its access to all moves.

[SET]

move 3: Taunt
move 4: Toxic Thread / Whirlwind

item: Focus Sash
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Timid

* CKW told you to fix soz....
I still think Rapid Spin is very usable but I'm not too interested with interfering with QC's decision. I guess it is fine for now. That said, I would take a look at [Moves] section and re-order the bullets: Taunt should be higher, Rapid Spin should be lower, etc.

* Here is where nuzzle spam and whirlwind forces your opponent to KO smeargle without using it as setup fodder

Team Options
========
*Smeargle fits best on hyper offense teams. As such, Smeargle's best teammates are generally hard-hitting offensive Pokemon.

* Taunt users that will keep webs up - yveltal / mewtwo / even tapu lele?
* Sweepers that can take advantage of defoggers and sweep - geo xern / double dance necroz-dm
* Stealth Rock user - pdon / fairyceus
* Stuff that pressure common Defog users - Yveltal / lunala (benefits from smeargle if it has rapid spin) / fairyceus / rayquaza
* Stuff that benefits from slower opponents - sd groundceus / sd ghostceus / sd or eruption pdon / pogre / etc etc...
* Yveltal check - xern / fairyceus / tyranitar
* Mmence check - same as above and maybe possible addition of hp ice pdon
* Include psyspam core with lele that taunts defoggers and ultra necroz or maybe deo-a

Your job to organize them - of course only the ones you agree with... since there are near infinity of possible pokes that benefit from defog.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
*Magic Coat stops Taunt from gengar / yveltal / mewtwo but crippling them with nuzzle helps so much more and magic coat involves prediction

===================

**Anti-leads**: Excadrill outpaces Smeargle and KOs it while setting Stealth Rock itself and removing web with spin. Cloyster clicks icicle spear and smeargle dies. Mention none of them likes eating spore

Mention how Whirlwind trolls them. Add ZygardeC and Arceus on examples

You have failed to implement my changes properly. There's a lot of work to be done here and I can't tell if you are up for it. This is a QC Rejected 1/3 from me. Please keep your activity up to make sure this doesn't happen again. If you have any questions, the Ubers Discord has a text channel dedicated towards Ubers C&C. Feel free to ask any questions there.
