Snaelstrom [QC 2/2][GP 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]
Snaelstrom's respectable bulk is offset by its lack of reliable recovery, weakness to Stealth Rock, and general passivity. Despite Snaelstrom being one of the sturdiest checks to Equilibra, it struggles to find a place on most teams due to its overreliance on the combination of Poison Heal and Spiky Shield for recovery. This makes Snaelstrom incredibly easy to wear down and very easy for common threats such as Tornadus-T and Krilowatt to take advantage of. This is further amplified by its poor typing, which gives it a weakness to Stealth Rock and makes it difficult for Snaelstrom to come in often. On top of this, Snaelstrom's typing also means it cannot effectively check Heatran, which many other bulky Water-types can. As a result, Snaelstrom is severely outclassed, particularly by specially defensive Kommo-o which provides a Water-type resistance and Stealth Rock support while also beating Equilibra and boasting a better matchup versus common Pokemon such as Heatran, Ash-Greninja, and Kartana.

[SET]
name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Scald
move 3: Spiky Shield
move 4: Toxic
item: Toxic Orb
ability: Poison Heal
nature: Bold
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This set aims to make use of Snaelstrom's ability to come in on Equilibra and use it as an opportunity to either set up Stealth Rock or spread status with Scald and Toxic. Scald allows Snaelstrom to have some form of offensive presence, deterring threats such as Kartana and Mega Tyranitar from switching into it directly. The given bulk allows Snaelstrom to take two hits from Choice Band Kartana most of the time, giving it more chances to burn it with Scald. Due to Snaelstrom's poor typing, it cannot consistently check Pokemon such as Heatran, Ash-Greninja, and Volkraken. As a result of this, other defensive Water-types such as Toxapex, Arghonaut, and Rotom-W are often preferred. On top of this, other Stealth Rock setters such as Tomohawk and the aforementioned Kommo-o share Snaelstrom's ability to beat Equilibra while also being better checks to threats such as Kartana, Excadrill, Mega Tyranitar, and Heatran.

Snaelstrom's respectable bulk is offset by its lack of reliable recovery, weakness to Stealth Rock, and general passivity. Despite its ability to set hazards on one of the most common hazard removal options in the meta name Equilibra here, Snaelstrom still struggles to find a place on teams as there are typically better options for this role, Specially Defensive Kommo-o in particular almost completely outclasses it due to its ability to check Pokemon such as Ash-Greninja and Heatran much more effectively while still also having a good MU against equi. mention its eh MU against torn-t if that's still relevant

[SET COMMENTS]

This set tries to make use of Snaelstrom's ability to set Stealth Rock on one of the metagames best removal options in Equilibra, as Snaelstrom is one of the sturdiest counters to it. Being such a good answer to Equilibra gives Snaelstrom a small niche in the metagame, ; however, Snaelstrom's over-reliance on Poison Heal coupled with Spiky Shield for recovery make it incredibly easy to wear down and take advantage of. This is further amplified by its poor typing, giving it a weakness to Stealth Rock which makes it difficult for Snaelstrom to beat threats that other bulky Water-types, such as Toxapex, Arghonaut, and Rotom-W can check much more effectively. this feels like overview material to me - this isn't set-specific information All of these flaws mean that despite its small niche, it is hardly ever worth using Snaelstrom over other Stealth Rock setters such as the Ferrothorn, Heatran, and the aforementioned Kommo-o, or any of the other defensive Water-types which it competes for a teamslot with.

The information is all there but I feel like a good chunk of the stuff in the second paragraph should be overview stuff. I'll 1/2 but lmk on discord when you implement

edit: 1/2 looks great

[Mention specifically how mons like Tornadus-T and Krilowatt force it out] This is further amplified by its poor typing, giving it a weakness to Stealth Rock [I'd add that its typing also doesn't have a Fire-type resistance, which makes its harder to check Heatran], which makes it difficult for Snaelstrom to, come in often. On top of these flaws, Snaelstrom is severely outclassed as both a water resist and Stealth Rock setter by Specially Defensive Kommo-o which also beats Equilibra whilst boasting a better matchup versus common Pokemon such as Heatran, Ash-Greninja, and Kartana.

[I definitely recommend adding an explanation for the EV spread, giving some example like against Excadrill where it's relevant, the analysis focuses almost exclusively on special attackers, so having a physically defensive spread seems out of place.]

[Also I'd probably explain why Scald is greatly preferred over other attacking options, namely that its needed to soft check Heatran and prevents threats like Mega-Tyranitar from coming in easily]
