Snorlax (QC 0/3)

[OVERVIEW]

  • Snorlax has great setup Pokemon in the UnderUsed metagame.
  • Snorlax possesses amazing incredible special bulk, and its 160 HP stat helps compensate for its somewhat lackluster Defense.
  • Access to Belly Drum means Snorlax can boost its stats instantly and recover just as fast with the ability Gluttony and a health-boosting pinch berry.
  • Curse can boost Snorlax's lacking physical defense while also boosting Snorlax's attack, while Snorlax is already slow enough that the speed drop from Curse is not a huge drawback.
  • Snorlax has a quite good coverage movepool to cover the poor offensive Normal typing.
  • Snorlax is quite slow, and is made even slower by the use of Curse.
  • Snorlax has trouble with physical attacks before it has the opportunity to set up.

[SET]
name: Curse Recycle
move 1: Curse
move 2: Recycle
move 3: Return
move 4: Earthquake / Crunch
item: Iapapa Berry
ability: Gluttony
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

[SET COMMENTS]
========
  • Curse is a move that will boost Snorlax's Attack and Defense by one stage while lowering its speed by one stage.
  • Recycle allows Snorlax to recover half its health instantly if it is under 50% HP with the use of the ability Gluttony.
  • Return is Snorlax's primary STAB attack that will hit incredibly hard if boosted.
  • Earthquake allows Snorlax to hit Rock and Steel-type Pokemon that resist its STAB.
  • Crunch is an option to super-effectivly hit Ghost-type Pokemon who are immune to Return.
Set Details
========
  • Iapapa Berry allows Snorlax to regain half it's health back when low on HP.
  • Gluttony lets Snorlax use its berry at half health rather than a quarter, meaning more reliable recovery.
  • Max HP and Defense EV's with an Impish Nature help Snorlax to live long enough to setup with Curse.

Usage Tips
========

  • Snorlax can be used to great effect to setup on some more passive Pokemon in the metagame.
  • Snorlax does not appreciate status, so be aware of potentially crippling burn or toxic, as burn halves Snorlax's attack and Toxic kills Snorlax often before it has an opportunity to set up.
  • Recycle can be used even if Snorlax is above 50% HP as long as it has already consumed its berry to give it the HP boost when its HP does drop below half.
  • Knock Off can cripple Snorlax's recovery as Recycle cannot regain an item that has been knocked off.
Team Options
========

Dark-type Pokemon like Hydreigon and Krookodile are great Pokemon to help Snorlax deal with annoying Ghost-types which are immune to Snorlax's primary attack.

Ground-types such as Krookodile and Nidoking can help Snorlax get rid of Rock and Steel type Pokemon who also resist Return.

Snorlax appreciates status absorbers such as Blissey or Togekiss who can use Heal Bell to remove potentially crippling Status.

[SET]
name: Belly Drum
move 1: Belly Drum
move 2: Recycle / Crunch
move 3: Return
move 4: Earthquake
item: Iapapa Berry
ability: Gluttony
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

[SET COMMENTS]
========
  • Belly Drum will maximize Snorlax's attack at the cost of cutting its health, but this can be regained though Gluttony and a health boosting pinch berry.
  • Recycle can give Snorlax the possibility to recover half its health instantly if it is under 50% HP with the use of the ability Gluttony.
  • Return is Snorlax's primary STAB attack that will hit incredibly hard if boosted.
  • Earthquake allows Snorlax to hit Rock and Steel-type Pokemon that resist its STAB.
  • Crunch is a less powerful option to super-effectivly hit Ghost-type Pokemon who are immune to Return.
Set Details
========

  • Iapapa Berry allows Snorlax to regain half it's health back when under half HP.
  • Gluttony give Snorlax recovery in the form of a pinch berry and recycle, so Snorlax can recover at half health rather than a quarter.
  • Max HP and Defense EV's with an Impish Nature help Snorlax to live long enough to maximize attack.

Usage Tips
========

Snorlax can instantly setup with this set, meaning it does not have to stay alive as long as it normally would.

Snorlax can be effectively used to break walls and weaken opposing teams so a cleaner can finish off the rest of the team.

Team Options
========

Late game cleaners like Chandelure and Mega-Beedrill can be used to finish off opposing teams once Snorlax has weakened bulky walls.

Dark types like Hydreigon and Krookodile can be effective in removing opposing Ghost-type Pokemon who are immune to Snorlax's primary STAB.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Normalium-Z can be run to give Snorlax the ability to use Belly Drum at any time, as it restores Snorlax's HP before cutting it in half. While you do lose the ability to recover at will and you will be left at half of your maximum HP, you can also opt to use this for a one time powerful Z move in Z-Return Breakneck Blitz.

Double Edge can be run instead of Return for more power, but the recoil is not appreciated.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fast Physical Attackers**: Fast Physical attackers like Mega-Beedril and Mega-Aerodactyl can cripple Snorlax before it can setup Curse or Belly Drum, rendering it useless.

**Ghost Types**: Ghost-type Pokemon such as Decidueye resist Snorlax's primary STAB of Return and Snorlax will only be able to hit back with a non-STAB Earthquake or Crunch.

**Rock and Steel types**: Rock and Steel types such as Mega-Aerodactyl and Mega-Steelix resist Snorlax's normal STAB attack and the two listed will take little to no damage from an unboosted Earthquake.
