These are the rules. Read them, get to know them. Follow them.

Welcome to the reboot of Congregation of the Masses, our new off-topic forum. A lot of the jokey/trollish stuff has been moved to the newly resurrected Firebot, and a few threads that don't quite meet the standards of generating discussion will be closed.

THE RULES
1. No trolling. This is not Firebot. This is the place for discussing things in a sincere manner. The moderators will know when you're trolling, so don't do it. This also means that the serious tag is obsolete in this forum, as it applies for every thread.

2. No flaming. Be respectful to each other when posting - as you are everywhere else in the forum apart from Firebot. If you dislike someone's opinion, criticise it and disagree with it, but do not insult or use ad hominems. You will be infracted for this.

3. Content. The OP must have it. An example of one that doesn't is this one - very little thought is required to contribute. These threads were allowed in a forum, but Congregation upholds a higher standard than that now. Examples of good threads include this, this and this. When posting a discussion thread about some sort of topic like a recent event, you are expected to put some effort into it beyond posting a link and saying 'discuss'. And it goes without saying that this also applies to any replies to threads here.

4. Check if the thread is a duplicate of an existing one that's been posted over the last couple of pages. If it is, bump the thread if you have something significant to add. If nobody's posted about it in a long time, feel free to make a new one.

Have fun and welcome!

The Cong moderation team has discussed this and I've been given the get-go to make this post.

From now on, any post which links an article with no comments from the mouth of the poster is going to be deleted on sight–whether this means copy/pasting articles and/or chunks of articles or just posting the link on its own; this is after concerns raised both by the Cong moderation team and by a number of regular posters/readers of Cong. We have deemed that this practice does not add anything valuable to discussion, and we all agree that when people post links it should ultimately take a back seat to their own content (linking sources, stating your own thoughts on the article/subject matter, mentioning as additional reading after replying to/starting a line of discussion in a thread, etcetera).

Furthermore, we are going to be revising the rules over the coming days/weeks, so expect a new rules thread in the near future and make sure to read over it when it is posted.
