[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 5 onwards
**Price Range**: 9-10 points
**Overview**: Are you tired of Terapagos, done with Excadrill, on the hunt for an affordable entry hazard remover? Well, you've come to the right place—with solid bulk, reliable recovery, and a deep supportive movepool, Tsareena is an incredibly reliable spinner and pivot. Many cheaper supportive options fall victim to being labeled as passive, but here’s the kicker: Tsareena’s naturally high Attack and strong lineup of moves such as Power Whip, Triple Axel, and High Jump Kick make it anything but a “passive” support tool. Few Pokemon can supply as much role compression as Tsareena for its price, supporting a team with utility, power, and momentum all in one. Though its lackluster base typing, awkward Speed tier, and complete lack of setup options prevent this monarch from being more than a mid-tier, its unique set of strengths are more than enough to give any trainer a leg up in their matchups!

Common Roles
========
**Offensive Utility**: With access to Knock Off, Rapid Spin, Taunt, and even dual screens, Tsareena can function as an excellent enabler and entry hazard remover. It can also use Trop Kick to weaken incoming physical threats or U-turn to slow pivot into a more threatening Pokemon with ease.
**Physical Wallbreaker**: Naturally high Attack, an incredibly strong STAB move in Power Whip, and powerful coverage options such as Triple Axel and High Jump Kick allow Tsareena to function as a fearsome physical wallbreaker with immediate power. Add a damage-boosting item likea Choice Band or Expert Belt, and you might not even notice Tsareena's lack of setup options.
**Bulky Pivot**: Tsareena's decent mixed bulk, recovery in Synthesis, and immunity to priority moves mean it can take many hits for its teammates, pivoting out with U-turn to ensure they get in safely. With moves like Trop Kick and Low Sweep, it can opt to weaken threats before pivoting out, or it can simply use its high Attack to deal with threats a little more directly.
Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Power Whip, Trop Kick, Petal Blizzard
**Setup Moves**: Z-Splash?
**Utility Moves**: Rapid Spin, Knock Off, U-turn, Taunt, Reflect, Light Screen, Synthesis, Substitute
**Coverage**: High Jump Kick, Low Kick, Play Rough, Triple Axel, Zen Headbutt
Niche Moves
========
**Acrobatics**: Acrobatics is Tsareena’s best move to hit Bug-types and one of its strongest coverage options in matches where it isn’t worried about losing its item.
**Low Sweep**: Low Sweep’s Speed drops can prove handy when dealing with faster attackers.
**Trailblaze**: Though Rapid Spin is generally preferred, Trailblaze allows Tsareena to get a Speed boost against Ghost-types.
Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Tsareena’s the one taking care of entry hazards more often than not, and Heavy-Duty Boots lets it do that without worrying about chip damage.
**Assault Vest**: With an Assault Vest, Tsareena can take more hits from special attackers and take them out in turn.
**Leftovers**: Leftovers bolsters Tsareena’s longevity, letting it attack and support without having to stop to use Synthesis.
**Protective Pads**: As almost all of Tsareena’s moves make contact, contact-punishing effects such as Rocky Helmet can be a real pain to deal with. With Protective Pads, Tsareena can spin, attack, and pivot without fear of these adverse effects.
Niche Items
========
**Choice Band**: Choice Band allows Tsareena to utilize its already-high Attack and wide coverage to be a much more imposing physical threat.
**Damage-boosting Items**: Items such as Expert Belt, Life Orb, and Meadow Plate increase Tsareena’s damage output without leaving it Choice-locked.
**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry can remove the damage decrease from a burn and prevent the chip damage from Toxic, both of which Tsareena hates.
**Light Clay**: With dual screens and recovery in Synthesis, Tsareena makes for a more-than-capable dual screens setter that can help enable its teammates.
**Weakness Policy**: Tsareena can leverage its modest bulk, weaknesses to common moves like U-turn, and Speed-boosting potential to make for an effective Weakness Policy user in the right matchup.
Tera
========
Tsareena can make decent use of Tera, but as it is a primarily supportive Pokemon that lacks setup, it’s generally not the best choice for a Tera Captain. If you do decide to make Tsareena your Tera Captain, consider Tera Water to flip the matchup on Fire-types, Tera Steel to remove most of its weaknesses and give it a Poison immunity, and Tera Ice and Fighting to get more of a kick out of its strongest coverage moves.
Draft Strategy
========
Tsareena is best drafted in the later rounds, paired with solid setup sweepers and wallbreakers that can utilize the fruits of its labors. Its role compression allows it to fit on a wide variety of teams, but to get the most out of your points, it should be taken with another bulky or supportive Pokemon; Tsareena is great at a multitude of roles, but it can't run all of them at once, and it can get worn thin if drafted without overlap.
**Frail or Entry Hazard-Weak Wallbreakers**: As Tsareena is often a team’s primary source of entry hazard removal, it pairs very well with hazard-weak allies such as Ogerpon-H and Kyurem. Frailer wallbreakers such as Greninja also like having Tsareena around, as it can get them in safely with U-turn and removes any fear of priority they might have.
**Secondary Entry Hazard Control**: While Tsareena offers solid entry hazard removal, it doesn't want to run Rapid Spin every game. A secondary hazard remover like Regieleki or Talonflame can take care of hazards when Tsareena has a less favorable matchup and can let it play more aggressively in games when it wants to.
**Ground-types**: Tsareena can easily lure in Fire- and Poison-types, which it struggles to deal with by itself, but can pivot out against into a capable Ground-type such as Krookodile or Great Tusk.
**Special Walls**: With weaknesses to common special types like Ice and Fire, Tsareena can often be worn down by special wallbreakers or at least be made to use an Assault Vest more than it'd like. Any teammate with reliable special bulk, from Galarian Slowking to Gastrodon, can take that pressure off it and allow Tsareena to deal with physical attackers more effectively in turn.
**Entry Hazard Setters**: Tsareena can make the enemy team pivot a lot over the course of a game, and many of the types it is weak to are themselves weak to Stealth Rock. Getting a good Stealth Rock setter like Landorus-T or Glimmora allows it to capitalize on that fact, meaning those switch-ins are in big trouble if they get hit by one of Tsareena's Knock Offs.
Checks and Counters
========
**Fire-, Poison-, and Bug-types**: Though they have to watch out for Tsareena’s coverage, Pokemon of these types such as Rotom-H, Iron Moth, and Scizor can easily switch into its common moves and threaten to KO it. To make matters worse, many Fire- and Poison-types are special attackers, rendering any attempt to stop their setup with Trop Kick a fruitless effort!
**Adverse Contact Effects**: Pokemon with abilities such as Flame Body and Static, alongside common Rocky Helmet users such as Pecharunt and Corviknight, force the contact-heavy Tsareena to run Protective Pads. That leaves it much more susceptible to entry hazard chip damage and status and punishes it heavily if it gets hit by Knock Off or opts to not run Protective Pads.
**Faster Wallbreakers**: Tsareena's bulk is admirable, but it's far from impervious. Most strong wallbreakers with above-average base Speed can threaten it with sizable chip damage, forcing it to stop to use Synthesis or switch out early. A weakness to U-turn doesn't help Tsareena when facing the likes of Roaring Moon and Ogerpon, either...
