Vullaby [QC 0/3]

we unranked the mon and it has a LC one so not continuing this -zard

[OVERVIEW]
  • Vullaby has a decent defensive typing and good defensive stats to back it up in conjunction with Eviolite.
  • Access to Defog makes it a great fit on teams that lack Defog and a check to Ghost- and Dark-types.
  • U-turn lets Vullaby keep up momentum and act as a defensive pivot.
  • Even though Vullaby's typing is good defensively, it's weak to Electric-, Fairy-, Rock-, and Ice-type attacks, which are common.
  • Vullaby relies on Eviolite for its bulk so it has to watch out for Knock Off users like Gurdurr.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Foul Play hits strong physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and Stoutland for good damage, it also discourages Pokemon to set up on the physical side.
  • U-turn lets Vullaby maintain momentum.
  • Taunt can be used over U-turn to prevent hazards from Ferroseed and Qwilfish.

  • Roost keeps Vullaby healthy throughout the match.

  • Defog gets rid of entry hazards from Pokemon like Qwilfish and Mesprit to make it easier for Vullaby's team to keep switching in throughout the match.
Set Details
========

  • 248 HP investment in conjunction with maximum Defense investment and an Impish nature with Eviolite make Vullaby as bulky as possible on the physical side while minimizing damage from Stealth Rock.
  • Overcoat lets Vullaby switch into Sleep Powder from Lilligant allowing Vullaby to soft-check it.

Usage Tips
========

  • Try to switch Vullaby into Psychic-, Ground-, Grass-, and Ghost-types like Mesprit, Musharna, Gastrodon, Torterra, and Haunter to threaten them with Foul Play.
  • It can also pivot around with U-turn to generate momentum and bring in a Pokemon with better match up for Vullaby's team.
  • Switch Vullaby into entry hazard setters like Qwilfish, Weezing, Ferroseed, and Golurk to remove the entry hazards that they might set up, however be careful when switching it into Qwilfish or Weezing as a burn greatly reduces Foul Play damage.
  • Watch out when switching Vullaby in to Knock Off users like Gurdurr, which, can remove its Eviolite greatly cutting into its bulk.
  • Use Foul Play to punish Primeape that might try to take advantage of Defog.
  • Vullaby has to stay healthy by using Roost because if it gets worn down it can't properly check what it has to check.

Team Options
========

  • Vullaby fits best on Balance or Stall teams that need a bulky Defogger that can grab momentum as well as switch in to Dark-, Ground-, Grass-, and Ghost-types.
  • Pokemon that don't like to take entry hazard damage like Magmortar, Pyroar, Abomasnow, and Jynx make for good team-mates as Vullaby can remove entry hazards while also being able to bring them in via U-turn so they don't have to take a hit.
  • Pokemon such as Alolan Dugtrio, and Lanturn can switch in to both Ice- and Electric-type attacks for Vullaby, the latter two also complete a VoltTurn or TurnTurn core. Vullaby can switch into Ground-type attacks for all of them.
  • Steel-types like Ferroseed, Aggron, and Alolan Dugtrio make for great team mates because they can switch into Rock- and Fairy-type attacks, in return Vullaby can switch into Ground- and Fighting-type attacks.
  • Weezing and Qwilfish have good type synergy with Vullaby.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Whirlwind can phaze the opposing team; detering set up and wracking up damage on the foe via hazards.
  • Toxic can be used to wear down Pokemon.
  • A specially defensive spread consisting of 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD can check Lilligant and Oricorio-G, however, this spread loses its ability to switch in to physical attacks.
  • Knock Off can be used over Foul Play to cripple Pokemon that rely on their item.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Status**: Toxic and Burn put Vullaby on a timer, which limits its longevity and ability to remove entry hazards properly.

**Super Effective Moves**: Vullaby is also weak to a lot of typings, mainly Ice-, Electric-, and Fairy-type attacks. It has to watch out for Pokemon that might carry Ice-, Electric-, or Fairy-type attacks like Floatzel, Regice, Alolan Raichu, and Musharna. Regirock, Aggron, and Lycanroc can also threaten it with Stone Edge.

**Taunt**: Taunt from Pokemon like Qwilfish and Sableye can prevent Vullaby from using Defog and Roost which makes it fail to do its job properly, it also isn't going to do much damage due to its rather poor offensive stats.

**Offensive Pressure**: Vullaby wants to switch in to Stealth Rock to Defog away entry hazards, if it switches in to Stealth Rock multiple times it can easily get KOd, Pawniard and Primeape discourage Vullaby from using Defog.

  • Vullaby has a decent defensive typing and good defensive stats to back it up in conjunction with Eviolite.
  • Access to Defog makes it a great fit on teams that lack Defog and a check to Psychic-types. It loses to ice beam Mesprit and to jynx, to dazzling gleam musharna, it's more of a check to ghost/dark mons and random physically based mons that can defog than anything else
  • U-turn lets Vullaby keep up momentum and act as a defensive pivot.
  • Vullaby sees a lot of competition from other Defoggers such as Skuntank and Swanna, however, they don't offer the same utility that Vullaby does. (Specify this or remove)
  • Even though Vullaby's typing is good defensively, it's weak to Electric-, Fairy-, Rock-, and Ice-type attacks, which are common.
  • Vullaby relies on Eviolite for its bulk so it has to watch out for Knock Off users like Shiftry, Absol, and Gurdurr. (The first two are the mons it checks better tho, lol)

  • Foul Play hits strong physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and Stoutland for good damage, it also discourages Pokemon to set up on the physical side.
  • U-turn lets Vullaby maintain momentum. (Knock off/taunt are decent since they let you beat Ferroseed, I'd say the latter deserves a slash)
  • Roost keeps Vullaby healthy throughout the match.
  • Defog gets rid of entry hazards from Pokemon like Qwilfish and Mesprit to make it easier for Vullaby's team to keep switching in throughout the match.
  • Knock Off can be used over Foul Play to cripple Pokemon that rely on their item. In my opinion you need foul play not to be setup bait and to beat absol/primeape that has switched into defog (
    +2 252 Atk Primeape Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vullaby: 292-345 (84.8 - 100.2%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO) 94% of the time I guess

  • Mention that foul play is good to do a lot to primeape in the switch that looks to switch into defog.
  • Mention that you need to roost a lot to check stuff

  • Steel-types like Ferroseed, Aggron, Alolan Dugtrio, and Togdemaru(twice) make for great team mates because they can switch into Rock- and Fairy-type attacks, in return Vullaby can switch into Ground- and Fighting-type attacks.
  • Weezing, Qwilfish, and Roserade (ban dis)have good type synergy with Vullaby.

Other Options
=============

  • Taunt can be used to prevent hazards from Ferroseed and Qwilfish, however, Vullaby doesn't have anywhere to place it as Foul Play, U-turn, Roost, and Defog are all necessary.
  • An offensive set utilizing Nasty Plot, Dark Pulse, Heat Wave, and Air Slash with Weak Armor might seem appealing, however, this takes away Vullaby's main niche. This is so bad and outclassed you need to remove
