[OVERVIEW]
  • Aerodactyl has a fantastic junction of speed and attack making it an exceptional revenge killer in the tier.
  • It outspeeds all of CAP except for Mega Alakazam which it Speed Ties with.
  • Its able to manage itself quite well in the metagame despite it’s lackluster defenses and its very limited movepool.
  • This is due to its notable synergy on balanced offensive teams allowing It is Effectively able to check other speedy foes within the tier such as Stratagem, and Syclant making it a handy tool to have around.
  • Finally, after Mega Evolution, Aerodactyl inherits the ability Tough Claws which makes it all the more powerful when dishing out damage.
  • However, due to the amount of overly defensive mons in the tier it makes it hard for Aerodactyl to 1HKO anything that it doesn’t have a type advantage over.
  • Because of this and its delicate defenses it makes it very difficult to use against a lot of physically defensive Pokemon such as Rotom-Wash, Cyclohm, Scizor, and Slowbro.
  • Cyclohm for example, is able to counter Aerodactyl perfectly bulking all of its attacks and almost always forces a switch.

move 4: Roost / Fire Fang/ Taunt
item: Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
Nature: Jolly
Evs: 252 Atk / 80 Def/ 176 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

  • Aerial Ace is able to successfully 2HKO max HP and max Defense Tomohawk not to mention it hits a lot of other bothersome Pokemon such as Necturna.
  • Stone Edge, Aerodactyl’s secondary STAB move, takes care of some of the more pesky fire types within the meta such as Pyroak, and Volkraken; It also hits very hard against other Pokemons that don’t show any resistance such as Plasmanta.
  • Aqua tail gives it extra coverage to take out the things Aerial Ace and Stone Edge don’t such as Colossoil, Stratagem, Landorus-T, Crucibelle, and Heatran.
  • Roost allows Aerodactyl to recover during a late game sweep if need be, making it all the more of a pain to deal with.
  • Fire Fang gets the Tough Claws boost and deals massive damage to steel types, negating them as a possible counter. Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Kitsunoh stand no chance against a speedy Fire Fang.
  • Taunt Allows Mega Aerodactyl to completely shut down otherwise stally Pokemon and set up sweepers that would use Aerodactyl as set up fodder. Aerodactyl is able to shutdown the likes of Clefable, and Ferrothorn.

Set Details

========
  • This Speed investment is needed to outspeed most of its threats including Mega Manectric, scarfed Mollux, and Mega Lopunny. It only falls short to a small hand full of Pokemon.
  • Aerodactyl loves to hit hard which is why we give it Aerodactylite and 252 Attack, this allows it to smear defensive poor Pokemon such as Mega Beedrill, and Mega Gardevore.
  • A small investment of Defense is usually needed to give users with priority a hassle. For example Mega Aerodactyl is 2HKO'd by an Aqua Jet from Choice Banded Azumarill with 80 the Defense EVs.
  • Unnerve is Aerodactyl’s ability before Mega Evolving disallowing the use of berries from opposing Pokemon; this can come in handy when dealing with Berry user’s such as Belly Drum Cawmodore or Custap Berry on Skarmory.
  • As a separate set, Aerodactyl can invest in other areas such as HP making it a bulkier opponent deal with which gives priority users such as Azumarill, and Scizor a bit of a harder time KO'ing it. In order to do this Speed must be drained a little.
  • Aerodactyl can also run maxiumum speed allowing it to out speed all of the metagame. At max speed Aerodactyl ties with Mega Alakazam for speed.
Usage Tips
========
  • Mega Aerodactyl doubles as both a decent late game sweeper as well as a pretty solid revenge killer.
  • Late game it kills most Pokemon that just aren’t fast enough, bulky enough, or just don’t have the right type advantage to take Aerodactyl’s massive hits.
  • Revenge killing is what Aerodactyl is best at demolishing Pokemon such as non Choice Scarf Keldeo, Mega Crucibelle, and Tomohawk.
  • Aerodactyl loves to swtich in on fire attacks from Heatran, and Pyroak; flying attacks from Talonflame, Tornadus-Therian, and Tomohawk; poison attacks from Amoongus, Volcanion, and Mollux.
  • One should take note that using the move Roost leaves it open for a possible Earthquake. However Roost is esssential so Aerodactyl can succesfully recover and stay healthy for possible late game sweeps.

Team Options
========
  • Cyclohm makes a great wall for Aerodactyl to switch to.
  • It eats up almost all physical attacks that would otherwise completely demolish Aerodactyl. It can also take care of Jirachi, and Cawmodore with Fire Blast and recover with Slack Off; if Aerodactyl becomes crippled due to a status effect, Cyclohm is able to treat it with Heal Bell.
  • Generally Aerodactyl loves a balanced offensive team, which means it likes to be able to switch into Pokemon that will tank the damage for it. Aerodactyl struggles with the much bulkier Pokemon in the meta such as Ferrothorn, Scizor, Clefable, and Gastrodon. Wall breakers such as Azumarill, Keldeo, or Aurumoth are all excellent choices to help Aerodactyl break through those nasty walls.
  • Aerodactyl has a problem with residual chip damage from Stealth Rock, this tends to not be a problem with the likes of Colossoil to either Rebound or simply Rapid Spin the rocks away giving Aerodactyl a hazard free playing field.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

=============
  • Earthquake gives Aerodactyl neutral coverage allowing it to beat electric types like Mega Manectgric, and Plasmanta. It can also successfully 1HKO Mega Crucibelle, however Stone Edge is a much more practical option as it hits much more being a STAB move.
  • Pursuit allows Aerodactyl to discourage several Pokemon from switching such as Aurumoth, Tornadus-T, and a multitude of other things. This gives it the oppurtunity to easily revenge kill them late game.
  • Ice Fang enables Aerodactyl to deal heavy damage to some of the bulkiest ground types such as Landorus-T, and Garchomp.
Checks and Counters

===================

**Cyclohm** Mega Aerodactyl does have Earthquake but it does not do a suffcient amount of damage to really pose as a threat to Cyclohm. Also being an Electric type Cyclohm can easily Paralyze and/or 2HKO Aerodactyl with Discharge.

**Choice Scarf Users** Choice Scarf users that include but are not limited to Keldeo, Kyruem-B, Kitsunoh, Kitsunoh, and max speed Volkraken can all outspeed and easily dispatch of Aerodactyl.

**Priority Users** Any Pokemon that has the use of Aqua Jet, Bullet Punch, Sucker Punch, and Ice Shard can be a huge issue due to Aerodacyl's weak frame. Aerodactyl should generally watch out for Azumarill, Scizor, Colossoil, and Mamoswine.

**Bulky Ground Types** Pokemon such as Fidgit, Swampert, and Garchomp give Aerodactyl a lot of trouble as they are a lot harder to KO.

**Bulky Water Types** Bulky Water Types like Slowbro, Azumarill, and Kirllowat can shake off Aerodactyl's attacks like nothing and come back and OHKO it. Slowbro can also use Aerodactyl as set up fodder by tanking the hit then using Calm Mind to try to set up.

**-Steel Types** Steel types resist all of Aerodactyl's stab moves and tend to be very bulky. Pokemon that don't get OHKO'ed by Fire Fang such as Mega Metagross, and Skarmory can cause a large amount of trouble.

**Status affects** Mega Aerodactyl can very easily be crippled by paralyzation or burn. Common status inducers that Aerodactyl needs to watch out for include Klefki, bulky Necturna, Rotom Wash, Clefable, and Mega Sableye.

I think the moveset can be tweak to look like

Stone Edge
Aerial Ace / Fire Fang
Stone Edge / Aqua Tail
Roost / Taunt / Pursuit

You could just ditch Pursuit in the main set but mention it in moves

You could also remove the little things below the section headers
"List some options for the Pokemon user that are plausible but not always recommended due to either being not consistent enough or too outclassed by other Pokemon in the metagame."

Also your C&C should be in the proper format

**Insert Threat Here**: Describe why the Pokemon is a threat.

In Overveiw you forget to mention how it outspeeds EVERYTHING without a speed boost except Mega Alakazam who has the same speed as Mega Aerodactyl
In moves that first bullet point isn't really necessary as it doesn't tell you much.

I would also mention alternative Speed EV Spreads.
216 EVs to outpace Mega Sceptile and Mega Beedrill (Actually this should probably be the main one)
136 EVs to outpace Mega Lopunny and Mega Manectric

Hey Broken Phobias, I talked with cbrevan earlier and we think 252 Atk / 80 Def / 176 Spe (Jolly) should be the main EV spread. This puts it ahead of Choice Scarf Heatran and Choice Scarf Mollux, as well as base 135s by extension. The extra EVs are dumped into Defense so it can take priority hits much better (for example, it can live a Bullet Punch from Adamant Mega Scizor with this investment and hit back with Fire Fang). Mega Sceptile and Mega Alakazam aren't really common enough to warrant running more Speed, and being outsped by Mega Beedrill isn't a huge deal when the best it can do is this:

252 Atk Adaptability Mega Beedrill Poison Jab vs. 0 HP / 80 Def Mega Aerodactyl: 102-120 (33.8 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Running more Speed could be listed as an alternate option in Set Details, though.

OO Ideas

Taunt Aero can be really nice against stall teams and pairs well with Balance or Semistall.
Whilst being weak to rocks, it can use Defog well in tandem with roost as its immune to all other hazards.
Watch this space, may add more

Bionic Puppy, Aerodactyl doesn't really have need for defog being that there are so many other Hazard removers in the tier as it is. Taunt on the other hand may be something to add into Other Options once I decide whether or not it is worth it. Thanks for the Suggestions

"Dragon Claw as some might think would be a good option to remove Cyclohm as a threat. This is false because even with Dragon Claw it still remains a 5HKO."

Generally you don't want to put bad options in an analysis; just don't mention it at all. Besides, most people would think to use Earthquake to hit Aerodactyl. It hits harder and doesn't have a chance to activate Static.

  • This Speed investment is needed to outspeed a majority of the tier only falling short to a small hand full of Pokemon
^Tell us what the speed EVs outspeed specifically (as in the fastest few mons it outspeeds; Mega Man and Scarf Mollux).

In usage tips, you should write up something about Roosting carefully. Roosting can get past Colossoil's Sucker Punch if Aero is weakened, but leaves it open to Earthquake... In general, Aero should only Roost on mons with no offensive presence or with only moves that Aero resists.

Taunt should be added to OO.

For CnC, under choice scarf users, you could probably remove Latios since choice scarf Latios is very uncommon. If you want, you could add scarf Volkraken in its place.

You could probably add a new CnC section just for status, particularly para and burn, which would come from Klefki or bulky Nect / Rotom-W.

  • One should take note that using the move Roost leaves it open for a possible Earthquake. Roost only when absoluetly needed. This can be misleading; I'd say to Roost when absolutely needed when there's a Ground-type on the field (like Colossoil) or something with Ground-type Coverage (LO Tomo)

===================

Format your C&C correctly: **[mon/group]**:

-Cyclohm: Mega Aerodactyl has absolutely nothing to hit Cyclohm with as its just to bulky to deal with and being an Electric type Cyclohm can easily 1HKO Aerodactyl with Thunderbolt. This is a bit misleading, as Earthquake does hit Cyclohm...just not hard enough. Also Cyclohm runs Discharge more often than not, and Thunderbolt from defensive Cyclohm doesn't OHKO.

-Choice Scarf Users: Choice Scarf users that include but are not limited to Keldeo, Kyruem-B, and max speed Volkraken can all outspeed and easily dispatch of Aerodactyl. Mention Scarf Kitsunoh

-Priority Users: Any Pokemon that has the use of Aqua Jet, Bullet Punch, and Sucker Punch can be a huge issue due to Aerodacyl's weak frame. Which Pokemon? Prankster Thunder Wave can also be a big issue as it cripples Aerodactyl's speed stat. You have a status section now; I'd remove this.

-Bulky Ground Types: Pokemon such as Fidgit, Swampert, and Garchomp give Aerodactyl a lot of trouble as they are a lot harder to KO.

-Bulky Water Types: Bulky Water Types like Slowbro, Azumarill, and Kirllowat can shake off Aerodactyl's attacks like nothing and come back and OHKO it. Slowbro can also use Aerodactyl as set up fodder by tanking the hit then using Calm Mind to try to set up.

Looking good, just make sure if you say, "This group of mons help/wall/whatever Aero", mention a couple of examples so people know what too look out for.

Mega Aerodactyl shouldn't be trying to Taunt Mega Sableye (Magic Bounce). Ice Fang should get a mention in Other Options since it's aero's best way to break through defensive Landorus-T, not to mention it chunks even the bulkiest of Garchomp.

and why would you risk Surf/Hydro Pump/Power Gem?

-Cyclohm: Mega Aerodactyl does have Earthquake but it does not do a suffcient amount of damage to really pose as a threat to Cyclohm. Also being an Electric type Cyclohm can easily Paralyze and/or 2HKO Aerodactyl with Discharge. and Static!

Good job, imo QC 1/3
