Bisharp
QC: Finchinator / p2 / PK Gaming
GP: Kris
[OVERVIEW]

* Bisharp has an excellent offensive typing in tandem with great STAB choices in Iron Head, Knock Off, and Sucker Punch.
* Swords Dance transforms it into a potent sweeper thanks to powerful Knock Offs and priority in Sucker Punch.
* It is the best Defog punisher in OU thanks to its great ability Defiant.
* Base 70 Speed isn't winning any races, so Bisharp's very reliant on Sucker Punch to deal with offensive threats. However, it does have enough Speed to pose a massive threat to defensive teams.
* It has weaknesses to common types in Fire, Fighting, and Ground, yet it has excellent resistances to Ghost and Rock, as well as immunities to Psychic and Poison.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Knock Off
move 2: Iron Head
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Swords Dance
item: Life Orb / Lum Berry
ability: Defiant
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Knock Off is Bisharp's main Dark-type STAB move as it's very powerful and spammable, with the added benefit of removing items.
* Iron Head hits most Pokemon that resist Dark-type move resists very hard, as well as inflicting solid damage towards most Pokemon whose items cannot be removed.
* Sucker Punch is a powerful priority move that somewhat remedies Bisharp's low Speed.
* Swords Dance boosts Bisharp's Attack to insane levels to sweep.

Set Details
========

* Maximum Attack investment allows Bisharp to hit as hard as possible.
* Adamant gives its Attack a boost, but Jolly is preferred to make the most out of its Speed to outrun threats such as Adamant Tapu Bulu and Mamoswine.
* 52 Special Defense EVs can be used survive a single Hidden Power Fire from Life Orb Latios from full, and the rest are invested in Speed and Attack.
* Life Orb bolsters Bisharp's power considerably.
* Dread Plate is an alternative option if Life Orb recoil is unappealing, although it only boosts its Dark STAB.
* Lum Berry helps with setting up against status users like Mega Sableye and bulky Water-types like Suicune.

Usage Tips
========

* It's best to preserve Bisharp as a late-game sweeper where faster threats are in Sucker Punch's KO range.
* When paired with other sweepers, Bisharp can function as an early-game wallbreaker to make way for another sweeper thanks to Knock Off hitting most threats extremely hard.
* It's a decent revenge killer with it's powerful Sucker Punches, but beware as it can be played around due to working only when the foe is attacking which causes apprehensive 50/50's where the opponent could use a non attacking move and stall it out.
* It appreciates Volt-turn support due to it's frailty and low Speed.

Team Options
========

* Rotom-W, Tapu Koko, Genesect, Mega Scizor, Pelipper, and Pheromosa all pair well with Bisharp due to their ability to pivot it into play while also forming excellent offensive cores with it. Pelipper also brings support in Drizzle, which lets Bisharp in taking Fire-type coverage better.
* Bisharp appreciates teammates that can take on Fighting-types such as Buzzwole and Keldeo. Such teammates include Mega Alakazam, Latios, and Tapu Lele. It also enjoys the power they bring to break down its more defensive checks.
* It also pairs well with the aforementioned Fighting-types due to its ability to defeat Fairy- and Psychic-types.
* Bisharp appreciates being paired with powerful wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Tapu Lele, Choice Band Tapu Bulu, Landorus, and Pheromosa. With their support, it has a much easier time against defensive teams. Tapu Lele's Psychic Surge, however, nullifies its Sucker Punch.
* Spikes users such as Greninja and Klefki also appreciate Bisharp for its ability to discourage Defog and capitalize off of it if it's used thanks to Defiant.
* Due to Bisharp's fragility, it appreciates being paired with other Steel-types that can make up for its lack of defensive utility. Jirachi is nice since it can set Stealth Rock and has Healing Wish, and Mega Scizor is good for weakening their shared checks and U-turn.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Pursuit gives Bisharp the ability to trap the likes of Latios, Latias, Slowbro, and so on.
* Low Kick hits most opposing Dark-types such as opposing Bisharp and Mega Gyarados for solid damage.
* Focus Sash along with Stealth Rock uses Bisharp as a decent entry hazard setter with the ability to beat common entry hazard removers.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Lucario, Conkeldurr, Cobalion, Keldeo, Breloom, and Buzzwole all resist Bisharp's Dark-type STAB and are able to come in on Iron Head with little trouble and threaten to OHKO it. Note, however, that a quite a few other Fighting-types are unable to deal with its powerful Iron Head.

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon such as Tapu Lele, Kartana, Tapu Koko, and Zygarde can all outspeed and threaten to KO Bisharp their respective STAB or coverage moves.

**Dark-types**: Dark-types such as Mandibuzz, Mega Gyarados, and Greninja take little damage from Bisharp's STAB moves. Mandibuzz can Taunt Bisharp to deny it the ability to set up, wear it down with Foul Play, and sustain itself with Roost, whereas Mega Gyarados can use Bisharp as setup fodder with Dragon Dance.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Very physically bulky Pokemon such as Mega Scizor, Tangrowth, Mega Sableye, and Toxapex all take minor damage from Bisharp's attacks and proceed to wear it down, the latter of which shuts down Bisharp completely when carrying Haze. Quagsire deserves a mention as one of the best switch-ins to Bisharp, as it easily walls it due to Unaware ignoring its Swords Dance boosts in tandem with its sturdy Defenses.

prelim stuff

- slash in dread plate, it's a good medium for items as an item that adds power without recoil. life orb is the best item, and lum should be in set details only. the added power from either boosting item is pretty critical in general.
- standard spread should be max speed jolly, the speed really is a big deal but you can slash ada as well. 52 spdef is a details mention but not main set material.
- smth about sucker 50/50s in usage tips
- mention pursuit and sash in oo
- mention tapu lele in checks & counters

With Grass Knot, mention running Naughty (or whatever the +Attack -SpD nature is) and LO so you can 2HKO with Knock Off on the Quag switch and then Grass Knot. I think some SpA investment might be needed for that lure to work, but I'm not sure how much.

No SpA investment is needed for GK to net the KO after KOff unless ur running a +spe nature (I wouldn't recommend this on that set anyway 'cause you want to hit as hard as possible w/ KOff). Also iirc there is actually a semi-important hit which Lonely takes and Naughty doesn't that makes it better, granted I can't remember what it is 'cause it was so long ago that I ran the calcs on it.

Edit: maybe add Cobalion to fighting-types in C&C 'cause it is p. much the hardest counter you can get to this thing, but idk it's up to you (it's not that common/relevant, but it's worth considering).

I agree with Martin's statement about adding Cobalion, but I would also add Lucario to this statement as well. Both can take a Knock Off, get a Justified boost, and can KO with thier Fighting moves.

  • Tapu Koko won't actually OHKO with Tbolt, HP Fire, or Moonblast, not even on a max Atk/Spe + Jolly spread, so Bisharp can tank a hit, Iron Head, then threaten to KO with Sucker or just get a free Knock Off on the switch.
  • I'd mention Pelipper as a partner for both its VoltTurn core potential and Drizzle for making it harder for Fire-type coverage moves on the likes of Latios, Magearna, etc. to OHKO
  • Mention Sableye and Mega Sableye under C&C; former for being able to come in on a predicted Sucker and either force Bisharp out with Will-O-Wisp so it can either burn Bisharp or the incoming target, or Mega Evolve and start setting up; the latter, after Mega Evolving, can tank a couple of unboosted Iron Heads / Knock Offs in order to come in and burn Bisharp
  • If you're going to say that Bisharp pairs well with Tapu Lele make sure to include the caveat that Psychic Terrain nullifies Bisharp's #1 tool: priority
edit: my bad, forgot about Prankster nerf

Well actually

252 SpA Life Orb Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 52 SpD Bisharp in Electric Terrain: 289-341 (106.6 - 125.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Zap Plate Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 52 SpD Bisharp: 267-315 (98.5 - 116.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Though true, Koko won't KO with anything if it doesn't have any boosting item. If it's a misspelling and it's actually Lele, then yes it can't OHKO without Focus Blast or Life Orb Moonblast.

Actually, regular Sableye can't do much other than Knock Off. Prankster nerf means that you can't get the priority Wisp off, and even mega Sableye that hasn't mega'd can only Knock Off on that turn (due to still retaining Prankster as it megas).

overview

more of a GP thing but "OU's best punisher of Defog users with a great ability in Defiant" is phrased weird - you can keep it for now if you want and leave it up to GP, but you can just change it to "Best Defog punisher in OU thanks to the ability Defiant"

"Base 70 Speed isn't winning any races, so it's very reliant on Sucker Punch" can be elaborated on a bit and applied in a more practical fashion -- perhaps change it to something along the lines of: "Lackluster Base 70 Speed isn't helping Bisharp outspeed many opposing offensive threats, but it still is capable of outspeeding most defensive threats and walls, which enables it to pose a threat to bulkier teams and cores, and it can use priority Sucker Punch to deal with (faster) opposing offensive threats" as base 70 isn't a total con

"Common weaknesses in Fire, Fighting, and Ground" -> "Common weaknesses in Fire, Fighting, and Ground are problematic, but at least Bisharp can resist noteworthy types such as Ghost and Dragon (maybe add a few others, but these are the biggest two) while being immune to Psychic and Poison" (this way it covers both sides, not just the weaknesses)

set1

- in set comments, add onto the iron head description that it hits dark resists in general (i.e: fighting types), not just fairies/itemless/mega item pkmn
- i usually just run max atk/max speed on bisharp, but i haven't tried this spread out or really thought about it, so i guess i'll leave it up to other QC, but at least mention the prospect of maxing out speed somewhere
- you mentioned LO first, so you don't need to label it as an "alternative" option as it's seemingly the primary option, unless you change the order of mentions/items

OO
- Pursuit should be listed first, imo, b/c Low Kick is used so rarely and GK is essentially a gimmick move for Quag while Pursuit has legit purposes
- Choice Scarf could potentially be mentioned, but i'm not sure if it's even borderline viable this generation like it was last.
- With MVenu and Toxapex in the tier, I /guess/ it could be worth giving a small mention to Psycho Cut, but it is rarely, if ever, worth even considering, so maybe not -- up to others

C&C
- Might wanna change it to Faster Pokemon that resist Sucker, but idk b/c some still tank unboosted SP regardless, so it'll be up to you/other QC

w/ all of this, 1/3

Banned deucer.
i think lum should be slashed over dread plate, i've honestly never seen the appeal in running it zz

in team options throw in a mention of other steels which you'd run with bish since bish is a steel that kinda completely fails to check things like lele or latios effectively (we all know what happens to teams that rely on just bish as a check for psychics/fairies), jirachi is good because it sets up rocks, has hw for late-game and brings in bulky waters/grasses that lum bish can set up on like rotom/toxa or tang/amoong, it can also para stuff like keldeo/chomp with bslam

move grass knot to the bottom of oo, it's really bad and its main target is a mon that is pu by usage lol.. but it has its use i suppose nuke grass knot

Vague please don't write it up. We're only doing skeletons at this point in time. (I'm only saying this because it's in the title)

Also yeah p2 meant that it needs to be removed.

Could you please offer some specific clarification as to why Jolly is superior? what's bisharp needing to outspeed that makes it a really "big deal" this gen?

Swords Dance should get a mention in the overview; specifically, mention how Bisharp can potentially sweep through teams after a set up (though it doesn't have many oppurtunities to set up)

  • Adamant gives it's attack a boost, but Jolly is preferred to make the most of its speed
Why? What do you outrun in particular?

In the Usage Tips section, i'd mention that it can be used early game to wear down walls with its stupidly powerful Knock Off's. You mention that to some extent, but you specify that its for wallbreaking for teammates. Should you get a Bisharp in on a Choiced Psychic, you can seriously lay down the hurt.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such Lucario, Cobalion, Keldeo, and Buzzwole all resist it's Dark STAB and are able to come in on Iron Head with little trouble and threaten to OHKO Bisharp. Note, however, that a quite a few other Fighting-types are unable to deal with it's powerful Iron Head.
Add Breloom and Conkeldurr.

Lastly, opposing Bisharp with Low Kick check Bisharp.
Not if Low Kick is OO :p. I'd remove Bisharp entirely and instead add Greninja and Mega Gyarados.

If you want to mentiom shit Jolly Bisharp outspeeds just mention like neutral Tapu Bulu and Adamant Mamoswine.

I do agree that you should sell why to use Jolly considering Sucker Punch nerf nearly screams Adamant.

Vague i removed this line "* It appreciates Volt-turn support due to it's frailty and low Speed." because it's more of a team options rather than usage tips; if you'd like to reword it PM Hootie and myself and we'll readd it

I removed sash SR from oo as well (hootie and i agreed on this), seems like it has no niche at all. if you disagree strongly pm us about that as well.
