Pros:
  • No.
Cons:
  • You're using Calyrex over literally any other Grass-type or Psychic-type. Just use Iron Leaves or Breloom or Amoonguss or Meowscarada or something like that.
  • You're not using not Calyrex. Magearna's a better Stored Power sweeper, and any halfway-decent Grass-type is a better SubSeed user.
  • It's responsible for that annoying-ass "Calyrex can now ride X, how does this affect the meta?" trend that plagued r/stunfisk for far too long. Shoutouts to the mods of that subreddit for blacklisting that Stinkpost Stunday topic before it got even worse.
  • Calyrex has a 4x weakness to U-Turn, and is outpaced by pretty much every offensive U-Turn user in the game. Unlike Brute Bonnet, it doesn't have priority to make up for this shortcoming.
  • Calyrex has nothing in the way of coverage. It couldn't hit a Steel-type to save its life unless you really want to waste your Terastallization use on this thing. Seriously; Kingambit and Magearna will turn any turn this thing gives them into the easiest 6-0 of their lives, and Gholdengo has a field day with Calyrex as well.
  • It's not riding Spectrier or Glastrier. Now, if it could ride Spectrier or Glastrier in OU it would probably destroy the entire framework of the tier as we know it, but it cannot do that in OU because those are two different formes that are both Ubers by default, and deservedly so because they're both legitimately incredible threats. Hell, once it rides Spectrier it becomes an AG-worthy, gamebreaking threat now that it can Terastallize. But, again, this version of Calyrex can't do that. Hell, this version of Calyrex can't do anything. Just don't use Calyrex.
  • Jimmy Neutron-looking ass.
  • You're playing a 5v6 game if you use Calyrex, and you're the one at the one-mon disadvantage.
"Sets:" (I'd say "potential sets," but none of these have potential, so...)

Shift Gear+CM Magearna, But Somehow Unviable
Calyrex @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Unnerve
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Modest Nature
- Agility
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Stored Power

Don't use this. If Calyrex somehow manages to activate its Weakness Policy without getting OHKOed and it's able to set up an Agility or a Calm Mind, it might be able to do what Espathra did to OU and UU for a long time after just one or two turns of just Calm Minding. Magearna can run this set as well, except it's got an actual typing, amazing stats, an amazing ability, an amazing movepool, great bulk, and everything. Just use that. Hell, just use Polteageist; that thing fits on a specific form of Hyper Offense called PsySpam and it's legitimately incredible on those squads. The only thing Calyrex is being incredible at is being terrible.

Poison Heal Breloom, But Even Less Viable
Calyrex @ Leftovers
Ability: Unnerve
Tera Type: Fairy / Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Psychic

Don't use this. Don't use the other set either, but especially don't use this. It has 404 HP Substitutes and isn't the slowest thing ever, but... man it sucks. Please don't use this.

Overall Impressions:

lol. lmao even.

Fun fact! Calyrex is the first ever Pokémon to be optimally designed to die. Its bulbous crown-like skull is so juicy and succulent, both herbivore and carnivore alike are goaded into snacking on it. Its noodley little bacon strip legs are perfectly suited for flailing around enticingly with promise of a free meal, like a jawless angler fish. Evolution has perfected the body plan for an organism built to perish. It is the Pokemon manifestation of Charles the 2nd of Spain. It is god’s mistake.
