[OVERVIEW]

Dialga is a great lead because it sets Stealth Rock reliably thanks to its favorable matchup against most Magic Bounce Pokemon and common Defog users. It also has decent offensive presence, especially for a Stealth Rock setter, and a solid defensive typing, though Dialga's STAB attacks do have pretty mediocre coverage, leaving it with a dependence on coverage moves that it doesn't always have space for. Furthermore, if lacking Roar, it is setup bait for some Pokemon such as Calm Mind Fairy Arceus. Lack of recovery hurts Dialga's viability, causing it to get worn down easily throughout a game. It's also fairly slow and lacks priority, leaving it vulnerable to fast attackers.

move 4: Stealth Rock

ability: Pressure
nature: Modest
evs: 248 HP / 248 SpA / 12 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Flash Cannon is the best Steel-type STAB move Dialga has, with decent Base Power and no drawbacks. Draco Meteor is a powerful STAB move, hitting everything that doesn't resist it extremely hard. Fire Blast is a very useful coverage move for Steel-type Pokemon such as Steel Arceus and Ferrothorn, which resist both of Dialga's STAB attacks. Roar is a decent option in place of Fire Blast to phaze foes, preventing them from setting up on Dialga and racking up entry hazard damage, and the Special Attack drop from Draco Meteor can make Dialga setup bait a lot of the time if it lacks Roar. Stealth Rock provides support for Dialga's teammates by racking up passive damage.

Set Details
========

Pressure can be useful in certain situations by allowing Dialga to PP stall common low-PP moves such as Extreme Speed from Extreme Killer Arceus. Ground-type coverage is extremely common in Anything Goes, so Shuca Berry allows Dialga to tank more hits and get entry hazards up much more reliably. 12 Speed EVs allow Dialga to outpace Diancie pre-Mega Evolution, which is very useful, because Diancie is a very common lead and Dialga can OHKO it easily with Flash Cannon. 248 Special Attack EVs along with a Modest nature make Dialga as powerful as possible.

Usage Tips
========

Dialga should lead most of the time in order to get entry hazards up as early as possible. Assuming you have Shuca Berry, luring in opposing Primal Groudon and using Draco Meteor to eliminate the opposing team's hazard setter can be great in the long term, as you won't have to deal with Stealth Rock on your side of the field. It also opens the door for Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Kyogre to sweep. Be careful when going for Draco Meteors, especially if you lack Roar, because it often leaves Dialga as setup bait. If your opponent has a Mega Sableye, not leading with Dialga is a good idea because it can heal the damage caused by Draco Meteor twice and leave Dialga very weak. If your team is weak to Extreme Killer Arceus, try to keep Dialga healthy with its Shuca Berry intact in order to take it on late-game and prevent a sweep. If your opponent counter-leads with Normal Arceus, opting for Draco Meteor first instead of Stealth Rock to scout out Magic Coat is handy, and Normal Arceus's Earthquake doesn't 2HKO with Shuca Berry.

Team Options
========

Dialga is very weak to Fighting-types such as Mega Mewtwo X, so it greatly benefits from being paired with checks to Mega Mewtwo X such as Ghost Arceus and Yveltal. Xerneas really appreciates Dialga luring in and KOing Primal Groudon so it can sweep much more easily later. Dialga gets put to sleep and set up on by Darkrai, so Darkrai checks such as Sleep Talk Ho-Oh and Mega Diancie are great teammates. Pokemon that appreciate Stealth Rock support to pick up some extra KOs such as Xerneas and Mega Rayquaza are decent teammates for Dialga. Ghost-type Pokemon such as Ghost Arceus can come in on Fighting-type moves and absorb the hits for Dialga, which is especially good when running Shuca Berry, as it prevents any super effective hits before Shuca Berry is used. Dialga rarely lasts past the first few turns, so it relies on its team to keep offensive pressure up on Defog users.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Metal Burst is a great option on Dialga thanks to a combination of its low Speed, decent HP, and solid bulk in general that allows it to sponge a lot of hits; however, it is hard to justify using a moveslot this way. Toxic is a decent option for Dialga to surprise Pokemon that intend to set up on it such as Calm Mind Arecus formes, but again, it is hard to justify using it. Thunder is a good option to hit some Pokemon super effectively that would otherwise beat Dialga such as Water Arceus and Primal Kyogre. Leftovers gives Dialga some passive recovery but is overall less useful than Shuca Berry. Life Orb increases Dialga's already decent offensive presence, though lacking Shuca Berry prevents it from getting Stealth Rock up as reliably. Lum Berry allows Dialga to take a Dark Void from Darkrai and either get Stealth Rock up or threaten to KO it with Draco Meteor, so it is useful if your team is weak to Darkrai. Dialga can utilize a Choice Scarf set fairly well and deal a lot of damage, though it's not as effective as the lead set. The Choice Scarf set can also run Sleep Talk to surprise Darkrai.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Deoxys Formes**: Deoxys-S and Deoxys-A outpace Dialga, Taunt it, set up Stealth Rock on it, and then cripple it with Superpower or Low Kick.

**Darkrai**: Darkrai outpaces Dialga, puts it to sleep, and then sets up on it, so it is essential that teams using Dialga can handle it.

**Calm Mind Arceus Formes**: If Dialga lacks Roar, Arceus formes carrying Calm Mind such as Fairy Arceus and Dark Arceus simply set up on it freely.

**Magic Coat Normal Arceus**: Normal Arceus carrying Magic Coat can bounce back Dialga's Stealth Rock and set up on it easily.

**Mega Mewtwo X**: Mega Mewtwo X, while uncommon, outpaces and OHKOes Dialga with its Fighting-type STAB attacks.

**Ho-Oh**: Ho-Oh takes very little damage from anything Dialga commonly runs and hits it back extremely hard with a Sacred Fire or Earthquake.

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Specially bulky Pokemon with recovery moves such as Primal Kyogre and bulky Arceus formes can simply eat any of Dialga's attacks and heal the damage off, as Dialga can't boost its Special Attack. Chansey and Blissey in particular are terrible for Dialga, as they can also heal off Toxic if Dialga is carrying it.

Overview
I don't think dragon/steel is poor coverage at all in AG seeing as you hit all major threats except steelceus neutrally at least
I wouldn't say lack of recovery hurts its viability, just that it hurts its ability to hang around for longer games
It's also not really ineffective versus offense, it can still get a kill fairly reliably and has shuca, I'd go with something like leaves it open to faster attackers
it doesnt really beat all defoggers 1v1 waterceus can take a draco and eventually kill it, especially if wisp, same probably goes for support ghostceus and normalceus. they're not as common sure, but I'd tone that part down a little

Moves
The flash cannon part sounds really awkward to me, ik what you're getting at but it sounds off
Generalize arc steel to all steel types bc there's also skarm, ferro, bronzong, and keys for more damage
i'd specifically mention something about roar being good after you're at -2 from draco, it's not easy to set up on dialga without that drop

Set details
Specify 252 SpA EVs rather than "the rest of them"

Usage Tips
"Great long term" ?_? expand
Mention how going for draco can be risky if you're not roar bc setup fodder
Probably something about playing around magic bouncers? Seems like it'd be good to mention but idk

Team options
Do people actually run rest hooh? Just say Hooh in general, although a second example like diancie would be good
Mention things that appreciate SR support

Other Options
I would tone back the language on scarf dialga (fairly well) unless somebody's actually used it and can confirm this
Mention lefties/life orb/lum as poor but possible alternatives to shuca
Mention OTR it seems not terrible enough for here
Thunder hits hooh and yveltal and waterceus and ogre I guess

C&C
The whole darkrai part doesn't really sound like an analysis (I don't have a better way to state that)
It's Arceus Fairy not Fairy Arceus :v also mention other CM formes, especially idk why the only example would be steel weak
Can you put two seconds more effort into mmx pls
Section for steel types, since fire blast is only a slash they totally wall it w/roar
I think a section for specially bulky things is appropriate, bulky Arc formes can take draco and recover, hooh and ogre are good checks, spdef Pdon also fits here. This is just so bare, there's more than just those things to mention

Overview:
- You stated it beats Bouncers but later on state that it shouldn't lead against Mega Sableye. !?
- This point becomes rather redundant, change it from:
"due to both Magic Bounce Pokemon and most common Defog users losing 1v1." to "due to both most Magic Bounce Pokemon and common Defog users losing 1v1."
- I understand the intent here, but it may become confusing for people reading the analysis.

Set Details:
- You mentioned 252 SpA, where it's 248 on the set.
- Pressure allows PP stalling of common low PP moves such as ExtremeSpeed from ExtremeKiller Arceus.

Team Options:
- Ghost types such as Ghost Arceus can come in on Fighting coverage or Mega Mewtwo X. This is even more nice when running Shuca Berry as it prevents any super effective hits pre-Shuca Berry usage.

Other Options:
- Mention how Scarf sets can run Sleep Talk to act as a surprise check for Darkrai.

Checks & Counters:
Ground Arceus - Ground Arceus' offensive ad defensive typings are both trouble for Dialga, as often Ground Arceus can shrug off any damage without much trouble and pick up the 2HKO on Shuca Berry sets.
Ho-Oh (this deserves its own mention since it is an extremely potent threat) - Dialga can barely touch Ho-Oh unless running a Life Orb set, even sets without bulk have nothing to fear from Dialga except the rare Metal Burst or Thunder.
Water Arceus - takes puny damage from all of Dialga's attacks unless it runs Thunder coverage.

+add Primal Kyogre to Specially Bulky pokémon, as it is relevant as you stated in OO.

// Keeping in mind these are checks to Dialga (not just Shuca)
Primal Groudon - Groudon's offensive stats and typing make Dialga's presence within the metagame very difficult, when it is not running a Shuca Berry.

Contrôle de qualité 2/3

Overview - Dialga fails to set up rocks vs msab, so it being a reliable setter is pretty debatable.

Usage tips - Scouting for magic coat vs normal ceus leads by going for draco first is a nice call (since +2 eq won't OHKO with shuca berry).

Team Options - Steelceus is capable of switching into dialgas w/o fire blast, absorbing both of its stabs and the possible toxic, and setting up on it. This makes double dance specially defensive p don quite a brilliant partner for Dialga, as it also appreciates dialga setting up rocks, which guarantees an OHKO on e killers with blades. Since Dialga will rarely last for more than 7-8 turns in a game (with its lack of reliable recovery), it is necessary that it gets rocks up and what follow are mons which can put significant pressure on defoggers. Mray is quite brilliant at this, as it also appreciates dialga's ability to either take out or switch out an Mdiancie lead, allowing it to set up with Dragon Dance.

Other Options - Scarfed dialga can use stalk, aura sphere and the STABs to check rai. It outspeeds and 2hko's e killers after rocks, which is a fair trait to have since most e killers will setup SD on turn 1. Possible switch in against Mray (on an ascent predict or vs non eq forms) and killing with draco. However, this gets walled entirely by P ogre, ho oh and is pretty crap in general. Very gimmicky.

C&C - Deo A/S- Run taunt, set up rocks and cripple Dialga decisively with knock off/superpower/low kick

Magic Coat E killers - Bounces back the rocks and can set up on it rather easily, as draco is a 3hko after the spa drop. Becomes quite easier if a magic coat predict is utilized by draco on turn 1, however.

Steelceus - Restricted as a check vs fire blast forms, but can still set up on it 1v1 (not on a switch in)

(according to PS Dialga has 403 HP with 248 EVs and 404 HP with 252 EVs. regardless of whether it has 403 or 404 HP, Dialga takes 50 HP from Bad Dreams (1/8 * 404 = 50.5; 1/8 * 403 = 50.375; both round down to 50) and 25 HP from Stealth Rock (1/16 * 404 = 25.25; 1/16 * 403 = 25.1875; both round down to 25). same goes for one (50) and two (67) layers of Spikes. the only time it matters is for three layers of Spikes (101 vs 100). otherwise, it's pointless to not invest the last 4 HP. so either change the EVs or change the sentence to "248 HP EVs is the maximum investment in HP that allows Dialga to take minimum damage from three layers of Spikes." lemme know if i've calced anything wrong and plz make sure your QCers are checking this stuff because incorrect HP investment is incredibly pervasive in analyses)

If your opponent counter-leads with Normal Arceus, opting for Draco Meteor first instead of Stealth Rock to scout out Magic Coat is handy, and Normal Arceus's Earthquake doesn't 2HKO with Shuca Berry.

Team Options
========

Ghost-type Pokemon such as Ghost Arceus can come in on Fighting-type coverage moves (I don't think it's relevant whether they are coverage or stab moves) and absorb the hits for Dialga, which is especially good when running Shuca Berry, as it prevents any super effective hits before Shuca Berry is used. Dialga rarely lasts past the first few turns, so it relies on its team to keep offensive pressure up on Defog users.

Other Options
=============

===================

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Specially bulky Pokemon with recovery moves such as Primal Kyogre and bulky Arceus formes can simply eat any of Dialga's attacks and heal the damage off, seeing as Dialga can't boost its Special Attack. Chansey and Blissey in particular are terrible for Dialga, as they can also heal off Toxic if Dialga is carrying it.
