Diglett, with its blistering 20 Speed and incredible ability in Arena Trap, once again finds itself as one of the strongest Pokemon in Little Cup. Outspeeding every unboosted Pokemon in the metagame, sans Voltorb which it ties with, Diglett is can mostly pick and choose its targets, most commonly Pokemon that are weak to Ground or heavily chipped. Rock Blast allows Diglett to hit Flying-types and Nymble, as well as making Life Orb Diglett one of the most effective anti-leads to Focus Sash Surskit. Sucker Punch allows Diglett to KO Speed-boosted Pokemon which it can no longer trap, while Tera Blast offers Diglett a new coverage option. Substitute and Protect both serve the same defensive role, but the former is better against Sucker Punch, switches and Wattrel's Hurricane, while the latter is preferable for First Impression and scouting Choice Scarfs. Substitute and Protect also allow Diglett to scout for opposing Terastallization, which it forces fairly often with Arena Trap. Life Orb allows Diglett to hit as hard as possible for better trapping. Diglett is also an incredibly strong user of Terastalization. The ability to become an Ice-type and Tera Blast Pokemon like Wattrel and Drifloon, Tera Flying to beat opposing Diglett, Foongus, and Toedscool, and even Tera Ground on sets without Tera Blast to further bolster Earthquake opens up enormous opportunity for Diglett to remove major threats and even serve as a sweeper. Diglett's ability also allows the use of further specialised Tera types to remove specific threats, though this is of course heavily team dependent. Diglett's best teammates are ones that want certain things removed to shine, such as Mareanie, who wants opposing Choice Scarf Magnemite unable to risk clicking an Electric-type move in case Diglett comes in, or Rain teams which can appreciate Diglett designed to remove opposing Mareanie and Toedscool. Other great teammates are Zorua and Toedscool, which can threaten the Ghost-types that are immune to trapping, while using Knock Off to remove Eviolites and Choice Scarfs, heavily reducing Arena Trap counterplay.

[SET COMMENTS]
Diglett can opt to forego the damage boost from Life Orb in favour of more bulk and utility, allowing it to survive important attacks such as Pawniard's Sucker Punch and Choice Scarf Magnemite's Flash Cannon, which would otherwise be a nuisance. Furthermore, this additional bulk means that Diglett can serve reasonably well as role compression for teams without another Stealth Rock user. Alternatively, Final Gambit can be used as an emergency stop against sweepers like Crabrawler, which can be extremely dangerous with Terastallization. Memento can be a greatly valuable utility on certain Hyper Offensive teams, as when combined with Arena Trap, Diglett is able to choose an opposing Pokemon heavily weaken, facilitating an easy set-up opportunity for Pokemon such as Shell Smash Shellder. Tera Ground allows Eviolite Diglett to hit harder with Earthquake, making up for the loss of Life Orb, whereas Tera Flying is valuable for countering opposing Diglett. These factors make Eviolite Diglett best on teams that need its utility, or with strong teammates that can hit hard in Diglett's place, Shellder and Chewtle being the most notable examples.
