[SET COMMENTS]
Mega Garchomp is a good wallbreaker that uses its good offensive typing, sky high Attack, and wide array of coverage options to be a good lure for Pokemon like Corviknight, Ferrothorn, and Gliscor while also setting up entry hazards effectively due to it forcing switches against Pokemon such as Heatran, Raging Bolt, and Galarian Slowking. Hidden Power Ice is able to nail Pokemon that would usually switch in on Mega Garchomp such as Gliscor and Landorus-T and allows it to setup hazards effectively against these Pokemon, which makes it the preferred option in most scenarios. Draco Meteor is another option that allows Mega Garchomp to deal meaningful damage to Pokemon like Dondozo and Great T while also being a decent burst option into Tornadus-T, Zapdos, and Rotom-W, although it can’t be used repeatedly against them. Fire Blast is neccessary coverage that allows Mega Garchomp to KO and lure in Steel-type Pokemon that are neutral or immune to Earthquake, such as Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Corviknight. Mega Garchomp is an effective hazard setter due to it having the ability to threaten common hazard removers like Great Tusk and Gliscor as well as Corviknight. A Hasty Nature is used to take hits from Heatran, Iron Crown, and Galarian Slowking, Allowing Mega Garchomp to take them on more throughout a game. Mega Garchomp has a very mediocre speed tier when Mega Evolved, being revenge killed by Pokemon such as Ogerpon-W, Tapu Lele, and Iron Valiant quite easily, so teammates that can check these Pokemon like Galarian Slowking, Heatran, and utility Kartana are good partners. In return, Mega Garchomp is able to threaten their checks such as opposing Heatran, Great Tusk, and Garganacl significantly. Despite having good bulk, it has trouble getting on the field consistently due to its limited longevity and inability to switch in safely against Pokémon like Raging Bolt and Mega Mawile, so pivots that can bring Mega Garchomp in safely such as Tornadus-T, Alomomola, and Galarian Slowking work wonders for it. Mega Garchomp is then able to take advantage of the opportunities these pivots bring to threaten the aforementioned Mega Mawile and Raging Bolt as well as Pokemon like Heatran and Ferrothorn. Mega Garchomp struggles against offensive Fairy- and Ice-types like Weavile, Tapu Lele, and Mega Diancie, so Pokemon that are able to fend off these checks like Iron Crown and Ferrothorn are good teammates. It can also have issues with certain defensive checks like Alomomola, Ting-Lu, and Tornadus-T, so Pokémon that can take advantage of them such as and Ogerpon-W and Weavile are effective partners for Mega Garchomp.

Mega Swords Dance (Garchomp) @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Scale Shot
- Fire Fang / Substitute
[SET COMMENTS]
With the combination of Swords Dance and the Speed boost from Scale Shot, Mega Garchomp can potentially be a threatening setup sweeper, using its good offensive typing and high attack to threaten and thus setup on Pokemon like Heatran and Toxapex. Scale Shot is the Dragon-type STAB of choice on Mega Garchomp, being able to boost its mediocore speed and then outpace threats such as Tornadus-T and Ogerpon-Wellspring. Fire Fang allows Mega Garchomp to melt Steel-types that would otherwise do well into its STAB combination such as Corviknight and Ferrothorn. Fire Blast can potentially be used to hit mainly Skarmory, but besides that it doesn’t hit anything else for meaningful damage and uses Mega Garchomp’s less threatening Special Attack. Substitute is another option that allows Mega Garchomp to take advantage of more passive Pokemon like Alomomola and Stealth Rock Garganacl, allowing Mega Garchomp to setup and sweep the more balanced teams these Pokemon are found on. Substitute is also notable because it allows Mega Garchomp to be immune to Landorus-T’s Intimidate. Mega Garchomp is mainly found on offensive and even some bulky offense teams that wear down its checks such as Landorus-T and Rotom-W, allowing Mega Garchomp to sweep teams much easier. As such, Pokemon like Weavile and Ogerpon-W are good teammates. Mega Garchomp has an awkward speed tier before having its speed boosted by Scale Shot, being revenge killed by Pokemon like Tapu Lele, Iron Valiant, and Zamazenta among others. As such, partners like Booster Energy Iron Valiant and Ferrothorn work well with it. In return, Mega Garchomp is able to threaten these Pokémon’s checks such as Galarian Slowking, Toxapex, Mega Latias, and Heatran. Mega Garchomp can potentially have issues with Pokemon that have Unaware as an ability, such as Clefable, Dondozo, and Skeledirge using Terastalization, so Pokemon that are able to blow past these checks such as Ogerpon-W and Tapu Lele are good teammates. Mega Garchomp can have issues with setting up, as it needs a lot to go its way for it to start sweeping teams, allowing more offensive teams to react to it and prevent it from doing so. As such, Mega Garchomp very much appreciates Screens setters such as Tapu Koko and Grimmsnarl, which allow it to setup much easier. Tapu Koko also gives the added small benefits of pivoting support via U-turn and Electric Terrain mainly hindering one of Mega Garchomp’s checks in Dondozo.
