Holy shit, it's true.

Discovered a little over 2 hours ago. I couldn't believe at first (mostly because of the ill reputation of the board I heard the news from) but this time, it's really true. And he was so young too. This is certainly going to be all over the news for the rest of the week.

R.I.P.

Pills "everywhere" from what I've read. Pretty crazy to say the least especially since he's in that new Batman movie.

Yeah, he had so many things going for him in life too. I think he had a very young daughter and was going to star in the next Batman movie as "the joker"

Supposedly he was found in Mary Kate Olson's apartment I heard? (I did not read the article, since I have been hearing this on the news for like two straight hours, further proving what a joke American focused news media is)

If he died from drugs or suicide, then who cares? Just because someone is a celebrity does not make a stupid death important. Also, the Batman movie is already finished, and it seems he is going to be the best Joker so far, so we still get to experience that :)

Still, The first big name of the year (Wonder why I typed Century, Must've still been partying like it was 1999?), I wonder who else will leave this year.

I was hugely wanting to watch this Batman, but IF heath ledger is really good, who will fill the role next time around?

This is the first I've heard of it, and I wasn't exactly sure who he was so I looked it up. I'm not a big film buff, but I did enjoy Knights Tale...I thought he was brilliant in that film. Shame. :(

Signs pointed to a suicide or an accidental overdose, police sources said.
What I'm about to say is probably going to make me seem like an asshole, but given I am an asshole that's not an issue for me: if he accidentally overdosed that'd be extreme idiocy and thus natural selection, and if he killed himself all I can say is what a wimp.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the headline on random sites was in the Knocked Up DVD Extra Commentaries, Jonah Hill's character was giving a rant to Katherine Heigl about how he wants to see Heath Ledger suck a guy off and Brokeback Mountain and so on.

So not a cool way to be thought of. =[

lol, jack nicholson is going to be hard to surpass as the joker. i actually wouldn't be surprised if he filled in the role if there is going to be a batman 3. as long as he doesn't die before shooting gets started, he is 70

about Batman, I'd think its reasonable to assume that the Joker is probably gonna die at the end...what with being a bad guy and all in a serious movie. I doubt they'd continue a movie series like this one (where bad guys are plentiful canon-wise) and recycle old villains.

a shame about his death, but it's a shame everyone pays so much attention to this and not others.

the celebrity industrial complex certainly is interesting

i dont understand why people care so fucking much about this nonsense

In all honesty, there are 27 billion animals dying every year and 6 million children dying of starvation in Africa alone each year, so the last thing I or any of you should care about is an actor dying.

Does that include ants and such that have a life span of less than one year? Numbers like that mean nothing, especially when they are so easy to contort (I trust the Africa one though).

Anyways, we care because his movie is coming up and its kind of a shame he can't watch it. At least this guy is better than Anna Nicole Smith.... All that news over a porn artist.

So people aren't to care about someone dying that they may have become enamored with or come to admire over time after having been continuously exposed to their work and their lives? This is opposed to the deaths all over the world that occur to animals and people that they have no attachment to whatsoever?

People always care more about something that happens to someone/something they are familiar with as opposed to something they are not. Grow up.

As far as Heath Ledger goes? It's a sad loss. He was definitely one of my favorite actors.

As Ledger was brought up and lived in Australia it has been very big new here. All the reports I've heard say that he overdosed on sleeping pills. Apparently he was having much stress and difficulty sleeping after playing the Joker, which he called a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy."

Now the actual events wont be clear for some time but some of the things said here are pretty unfair. While the celebrity world doesn't interest me in the slightest, and even though I wasn't sure exactly who he was when I heard about this incident, CLEARLY human deaths such as this one are much more important than animal deaths.

I fully agree with CLegacyM, people saying "WHY DO YOU CARE?" should be able to answer that question themselves quite easily if they just think about it for a while.
