Mega Aerodatyl's unrivaled Speed tier in conjunction with EdgeQuake coverage and Pursuit has made it second to none as a revenge killer and general offensive threat in UU for a long time. This offensive utility has broad appeal for a wide array of playstyles, ranging from offense to balance to even semi-stall, all of which benefit from its ability to scare out opposing offensive Pokemon. Roost Mega Aerodactyl generally fits best on less offensive teams that can give it the space to restore its health on forced switches and keep threats such as Moltres at bay long-term, but it can also run a 4th coverage move such as Aqua Tail, Fire Fang, or Ice Fang as well to broaden the array of Pokemon it can threaten offensively. Mega Aerodactyl isn't a cure-all versus offense, though, as offensive staples such as Scizor and Mamoswine can still scare it out, preventing it from completely dominating the offensive metagame. This limits your team structure by requiring defensive Pokemon such as Suicune and Doublade.

(instead of saying defensive backbone, give a few specific examples)

Mega Aerodatyl's Aerodactyl's unrivaled Speed tier is unrivaled in UU, which, in conjunction with EdgeQuake coverage and Pursuit (RC) has made it second to none as a revenge killer and general offensive threat in UU (or "unrivaled Speed tier in UU", both work but this is less awkward and the tier is at the very least implied w/ the first part) for a long time. This offensive utility has broad appeal for a wide array of playstyles, ranging from offense to balance to even semi-stall, all of which benefit from its ability to scare out opposing offensive Pokemon. Roost Mega Aerodactyl generally fits best on less offensive teams that can give it the space to use Roost restore its health (repetition) on forced switches and keep threats such as Moltres at bay long-term, but it can also run a 4th coverage move such as Aqua Tail, Fire Fang, or Ice Fang as well (redundant w/ prior also unless i'm misreading?) to broaden the array of Pokemon it can threaten offensively.
