Mismagius

[OVERVIEW]

* A good set of special coverage moves gives Mismagius a variety of ways to deal with opponents.
* Mismagius also has a varied set of status moves to use with its speed.
* With its defencive typing and Levitate, Mismagius has three immunities and only two weaknesses.
* While it's speed is usable, it isn't anything to write home about.
* Average special attack stats require items to pack a punch.
* Many of its common moves have low base power.
* Physical bulk is mediocre, making it difficult to stay alive. Special bulk is hampered by the low HP stat.
* Competes with Gengar, who has better offencive stats, also has solid coverage, and good anti-meta STAB.

Moves
========

* Shadow Ball is your primary STAB, hitting hard against most foes and generally being unresisted.
* Mystical Fire is nice for the valuable Fire coverage against Kartana and Celesteela, as well as for the special attack drop, allowing Mismagius to take special attacks from the target.
* The rest is based on what your team needs. Thunderbolt and Energy Ball both take down water types, with Thunderbolt generally being the better option for things like Pelipper and Gyarados, and Energy Ball mostly to take down Gastrodon.
* Alternatively, you can use both Power Gem and Dazzling Gleam if your team is good with water types.
* Power Gem provides coverage against fire, flying, bug, and ice types, allowing it to hit a variety of foes for good damage.
* Dazzling Gleam is a good choice to hit dragons like Garchomp with, and provides a spread move to hit both foes.

Set Details
========

* EVs are currently standard glass cannon fare, as Mismagius needs investment to be able to keep its speed and power. (I might change it a bit for a major survivability calc.)
* Choice Specs allows Mismagius to become a powerful wallbreaker with its coverage, and works best with a Timid nature.
* Choice Scarf allows Mismagius to outspeed most of the meta to revenge kill fast threats, and works best with a Modest nature.
* Levitate is only choice for ability, and gives a handy immunity.

Usage Tips
========

* Choice Specs sets are best used to apply immediate offencive pressure to the other team with your best move. It can work as a lead due to it's great coverage. Combined with it's speed, Mismagius should focus on dealing as much damage as possible.
* Specs variants work well on fast offencive teams, as Mismagius can weaken enemies for a good partner to finish them off.
* Choice Scarf sets are best used to revenge kill foes with it's blistering speed. It can serve as a counter to fast pokemon with exploitable weaknesses like Kartana.
* Don't just think about doing damage to a foe. If a pokemon can be knocked out with a move that can work well against the opponent's remaining pokemon, use it instead of a move that can deal more damage.
* Stay away from physical attackers that you can't KO, as this set lacks the ability to take hits.

Team Options
========

* As this set is choice locked, Mismagius appreciates a reliably bulky switch in for when the chosen move isn't useful. Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini have reliable bulk and resistance to Dark type moves, while Intimidators like Arcanine can better take physical attacks.
* As this set is all-out offencive, Mismagius appreciates strong, fast attackers like Kartana and Nihilego to score KO's with and help them rack up Beast Boosts.
* While most bulky sets don't work that well, Clefable/Clefairy can provide valuable redirection support to allow more powerful attacks.
* This set excels at revenge killing, so it works well with pokemon that it can effectively check common counters and respond with a KO.

Moves
========

* Shadow Ball is obligatory STAB and consistently will do solid damage.
* Mystical Fire and Power Gem are your coverage options, both providing high accuracy and good coverage dependent on what your team needs. Mystical Fire has an added bonus of the Special Attack drop, while Power Gem generally hits more types.
* If you don't want either, you are probably better off running Gengar instead.
* Taunt and Will-O-Wisp are both good support options, the allowing Mismagius to tackle Trick Room users and preventing other annoying moves, the latter crippling physical attackers, allowing Mismagius to take a hit or two.
* Protect is to allow Mismagius to survive longer against its checks and give it an emergency option, while Memento provides an option to cripple an attacker once Mismagius outlived it's usefulness.

Set Details
========

* EV's are still simple sweeper fare, I haven't really compared this with the speed tiers to check if it is too much speed or whether it needs more bulk.
* Life Orb provides a significant power boost, allowing it to hit hard with the ability to change moves.
* Focus Sash is an alternative for a more supportive based set if you fear the Life Orb recoil.
* Levitate is your only ability, although a good one.

Other Options
=============

* The second set can use Destiny Bond as a more risky but rewarding alternative to Memento
* AV might seem appealing with the Special Defence, but AV Mismagius is somewhat passive and still weak on the physical side. Goodra does its job better.
* Psychic may be a powerful coverage option, but it generally can't hit much super-effectively.
* Trick Room has a small niche of canceling opponent's Trick Room, but it generally isn't worth it.
* Levitate, Psych Up, and a quick Taunt make it a possible option for a Eevee team with Krookodile.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark Type Pokemon/Moves**: The prominent dark types in the meta pose a serious threat to Mismagius. Krookodile can't be hit super effectively by much of Mismagius major moves (Energy Ball can deal some damage), and can one shot it with a Crunch. Muk-Alola is an even bigger threat, as it can tank all of Mismagius' attacks and OHKO with Knock Off. Mismagius' poor defence means even non-dark type pokemon like Hariyama can OHKO with Knock Off. In addition, Snarl provides a major threat, as Mismagius with a special attack drop has very little power.

**Special Tanks**: Specially bulky pokemon like Goodra and Porygon-2 can tank most of Mismagius' attacks, and they have better offence to back it up. In these matchups, try to focus on the other opponent and have your teammate take the threat.

I have decided that I don't know enough on how to use Mismagius in the meta and I would like to give up this analysis (Plus, I have been busy IRL). I don't really know the protocol for giving out threads, but someone can use this thread as a baseline.
