As previously noted by Gum, I will be posting the results for last week’s PU Next Best Thing submission as well as posting the Pokemon for this week.

Results

And the winner of first week's PU Next Best Thing is the user Taskr who submitted a terrifying and incredibly creative Z-Snatch set for Skuntank! This submission was able to gather 13 votes from our community, only proving how much of a threatening set this could be for so many Pokemon. Congratulations, Taskr, great submission! (:

Everyone did an amazing job submitting surprising and effective sets for our first week, a lot of these sets being totally unpredictable yet useful. Gum is as surprised as I am with the quality of the posts and we hope to continue seeing such great contributions from the community as the thread keeps on growing, we deeply appreciate it. <3

For this week of PU Next Best Thing we will be exploring Froslass: The top spiker of PU has proven to be worth of an S ranking thanks to its ability to serve as an effective hazard setter and spin blocker, having a great offensive presence, providing great utility as well as having a great number of moves and sets that makes it quite versatile, but is there even more to explore when it comes to this spooky Ice-Ghost Pokemon? I’m more than sure that there is so lets just get into it!

Froslass (F) @ Icium Z
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blizzard
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Hail

Z-Hail boosts Froslass Speed to +1, resulting into the speed tie with Scarf Dodrio, outspeeding Alola-Persian as well as outspeeding Scarf Mesprit.
After the +1 due to Z-Hail, Froslass even outspeeds Slush Rush boosted Alola-Sandslash, as Froslass reaches 525 maximum and Alola-Sandlash with Jolly nature 502.
Blizzard is Froslass primary STAB and has a 100% accuracy due to the Hailstorm, Blizzard also is a good spamable Stab since only Fire Pokemon and Steel Types resist this move.
Shadow Ball is Froslass secondary STAB, meanwhile Hidden Power [Fire] / Hidden Power [Fighting] is chosen to be capable to break through Alolan-Sandlash and the recently dropped Houndoom.
HP Fire has a chance to OHKO Alola-Sandslash and HP Fighting is a guaranteed 2HKO after Rocks damage on Houndoom. HP Fighting is also capable of hitting Aggron for 4x super effective damage.

Calcs:
252 SpA Froslass Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sandslash-Alola: 272-320 (93.4 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Froslass Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 208+ SpD Sandslash-Alola: 188-224 (53.1 - 63.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Froslass Hidden Power Fighting vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Houndoom: 114-136 (39.1 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Froslass Hidden Power Fighting vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Aggron: 288-340 (102.4 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Sub Disable Froslass can be really annoying to face as you can disable things like Gurdurr's Knock Off, Poliwrath's Scald and Hitmonchan's Thunderpunch. It's not even just Fighting types but choice locked Pokemon like Stoutland, Aurorus and Jellicent that hates disable as it forces them to struggle or switch. This set is also good for preventing Froslass from being Pursuit trapped as you can just disable it and freely switch.

Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball
- Destiny Bond

This specific Froslass set is fantastic for stopping top tier threats such as Stoutland and Houndoom. Froslass is able to set up Spikes on the predicted Stoutland/Doom switch in and click Destiny Bond after to eliminate any threat that specific mon could have posed to your team.

Alright, so when you click Destiny Bond, any Pokémon that knocks Froslass out will faint alongside it. The important thing to note is that this doesn't just last until the next turn, it lasts until Froslass's next active turn.
What this means is you can use Avalanche, which has a priority of -4, to delay Froslass's active turn, creating a never-ending Destiny Bond loop. Here's a replay demonstrating how the mechanic works:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7pu-870399743(If it's not clear, I selected Avalanche on turn 2. Despite being faster, this means I go last on the turn and force Stoutland to sack itself).
In theory, you can chain Destiny Bond into Avalanche repeatedly, guaranteeing a kill on anything slower (provided your PP doesn't run out).
The rest of the set is dedicated to setting up as many spikes as quickly as possible while denying opposing hazards & Defog, allowing for a Hyper Offensive team to go ham.
Avalanche is actually fairly powerful in its own right; Froslass has a base 80 in both Atk & SpAtk, and Avalanche is effectively a base 120 move.
252 Atk Froslass Avalanche vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 378-446 (106.7 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Froslass Avalanche vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Clefairy: 169-199 (49.1 - 57.8%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Froslass Avalanche vs. 252 HP / 128 Def Mudsdale: 252-296 (62.3 - 73.2%)
252 Atk Froslass Avalanche vs. +1 252 HP / 128 Def Mudsdale: 168-198 (41.5 - 49%)

252 Atk Froslass Avalanche vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Stoutland: 154-183 (49.5 - 58.8%)
252 Atk Froslass Avalanche vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eelektross: 171-202 (45.7 - 54%)

Houndoom's drop couldn't have come at a better time! Z-Water Pulse Froslass is a really cool lure to eliminate Fire-type wallbreakers like Houndoom, Simisear, and Combusken that might possibly come in to take advantage of it setting hazards. In a metagame where full Fire-type counters are few and far between, lures like this can be pretty useful for certain matchups.

- Ice Beam / Blizzard

- Shadow Ball / Destiny Bond

This is an odd set I pondered up after Togedemaru left the tier. Froslass's speed tier is nice enough to justify a set like this, and there are enough attackers in the tier with super effective moves for it to work. Once everything on the opposing team was slightly weakened and Choice Scarf users were dealt with this tore through many opposing teams with ease.

+2 252 SpA Froslass Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Mesprit: 362-428 (99.7 - 117.9%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
+2 252 SpA Froslass Hidden Power Fighting vs. 252 HP / 208+ SpD Sandslash-Alola: 376-444 (106.2 - 125.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Froslass Hidden Power Fighting vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Aurorus: 408-480 (105.4 - 124%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Froslass Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Qwilfish: 306-360 (91.6 - 107.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
+2 252 SpA Froslass Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Drampa: 458-542 (127.2 - 150.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

If you're unable to chip things prior to Froslass coming in, it can use Blizzard to OHKO most things in the tier after SR other than like Regirock, Audino, Clefairy, or AV boosted Pokemon. But then again, Blizzard is Blizzard so the former option is generally preferred.
+2 252 SpA Froslass Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Stoutland: 283-334 (90.9 - 107.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Froslass Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Ludicolo: 258-304 (86.2 - 101.6%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Unfortunately, Endure is incompatible with Cursed Body, so it's forced to run Snow Cloak; and rarely it can be difficult to find a super effective attacker to use this against. Regardless, this can be a surprise cleaner that wipes through many unprepared teams.

- Fake Tears

Z-Fake Tears is basically a Nasty Plot + Calm Mind (minus the spdef rise) as it lowers the foe spdef by 2 while raising Froslass's SpA by one stage. Fake Tears can also be used alone, as a pseudo Nasty Plot. This combined with its high speed means that it's a decent cleaner. Taunt allows it to beat stuff like Articuno while Spikes helps it support its team. Substitute can also be used as it allows Froslass to dodge Sucker Punch.

+1 252 SpA Froslass Shadow Ball vs. -2 252 HP / 208+ SpD Sandslash-Alola: 280-331 (79 - 93.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Froslass Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. -2 252 HP / 208+ SpD Sandslash-Alola: 373-441 (105.3 - 124.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Froslass Subzero Slammer (175 BP) vs. -2 248 HP / 252+ SpD Audino: 327-385 (79.9 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Froslass Ice Beam vs. -2 248 HP / 252+ SpD Audino: 252-297 (61.6 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Froslass Subzero Slammer (175 BP) vs. -2 248 HP / 204+ SpD Articuno: 262-310 (68.4 - 80.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Submission phase is over ! Thanks to everyone who participated and a huge thanks to KellyKafka for publishing's last week results ! Also I forgot to update the leaderboard and archives, oops.

PhantomHurious please be careful in the future about what is and what isn't considered standard. Destiny Bond, while not slashed, is mentioned in the Froslass's analysis more than once. I'll let it slide this time because it wasn't in the blacklisted sets but if you have any questions on what is and what isn't considered standard just ask me !

Anyway, pretty epic submissions if you ask me. Vote for your favourite set !

With 7 votes, the winner of the second week of Next Best Thing is uhuhuhu7 with their Destiny Bond + Avalanche Froslass ! Congrats ! Again, nice submissions everyone ! I swear I'm going to update the archive and leaderboard soon !!

For the third week of Next Best Thing, we'll be covering a rather niche mon in Kecleon ! Its interesting movepool, with notably numerous utility options such as Stealth Rock and way of setting up with Nasty Plot, gives it numerous potential roles !

Same rules as before, blacklisted set. Have fun and good luck !

This set checks every Lilligant set bar the bulky set (You need Icium z to beat it 1v1), you also check Houndoom somewhat reliably if you're running the Drain Punch version. (Fire blast does 39 to 46) You also outpace bulky Calm Mind Pom-Pom, as they have to boost up twice to OKO you with Z hurricane but, they don't have enough roost PP to actually get there. Having a Stealth rocker that can do all of this is really nice :] It's not the greatest thing out there but it's a niche little blanket check that you can throw on a team and have some fun with.

A Stall-ish version of Kecleon with Knock Off, Toxic, Recover and Protect. Knock Off to Knock held Items off
like Leftovers, Assault Vest and Choice Items,
meanwhile Toxic + Protect combination is there to rek up some good turns of Toxic,
to whittle down the opposing mon a huge amount in the long run. Recover to give Kecleon the needed longevity.
