PU Replays Thread

Welcome one and all to the PU Replay thread. Here is where we're going to post replays demonstrating not only great battles you've had between friends, but tournaments from the subforum and ladder battles you feel people can learn from by watching.

What kind of replays should be posted here?
  • Battles in which display a particular playstyle really well.
  • Battles with two highly rated members of the ladder (If ladder battling)
  • Battles in which show (good) new and creative sets off.
If you do post a battle, remember to add some information about the team(s) involved, and a little bit of a summary of what the battle entailed and some clarification about key points in the match (turns you really had to think - explain what you did and why)

Choice Band + Belly Drum Linoone

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/pu-204538821

This is more of just a concept thing for a gimmick but I'll briefly go over the idea:
The whole point of the team is to give Linoone a chance to set up belly drum while magic room is in effect. Setting it up is pretty straightforward with how I intend to do it - Missy can use memento as well as provide taunt pressure to prevent counter set up, while Lunitone has duel screens and explosion for the safe switch. Timing is everything with this team, so I just use whichever has the better opportunity to support Linoone.

Now if you actually pass into Linoone you're obviously still walled by ghost and rock types, so the rest of the team is dedicated to having a pursuit trapper and a banded scyther to lure out any Pokemon Linoone can't quite OHKO. Obviously this isn't an RMT post, but I thought it was a cool use of the move magic room. Also as another thing I managed to outspeed a choice scarf user because of magic room, which just goes to show that most teams run into problems they aren't expecting when it's up. It's not as dangerous as trick room, but it certainly does something.

gonna post a dump of a bunch of random replays i have saved

fun replay showing how silly musharna was at times

okay this is all I have for now, a few of these are really old but they should still be fun to watch I hope.

trc and I just played for the PU tournament in the tours subforum, so I'll post the replays here. Sadly, I forgot to save the replay of game 2 and frost apparently doesn't let you go back into games that you've left, but trc won game 2 with the aid of a Seed Bomb crit, though it's hard to tell if I could have won otherwise since he had the upper hand at that point anyway. Regardless, here are the replays for games 1 and 3:

remember, i think discussion about these replays is a good thing! analysis of games is incredibly beneficial to some people, so imo this thread should be about posting AND discussing. if you're in the pu tournament in the forums, posting replays here is a great thing to do so they can be analysed by people who enjoyed the games =)

Like Zard, I've been using Jumpluff a lot lately. As you can see here, the amount of utility it has is ridiculous.

Check out turn Turn 18 specifically. http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/pu-211080380

Also, Buttered Kingler / Detect Marowak keeps trolling and randomly posting replays of himself beating drivers/voices in chat, so I had to knock him down a peg. :-)

^Fun game against Scorp

This game shows you how potent Scorp's Future Sight Mr. Mime can be. I was forced to switch in my Sneasel in order to take the Future Sight at inopportune times (i.e. when his Poliwrath was out). Like he mentioned in the underrated sets thread too, this strategy can work in reverse. If you use Future Sight, you can follow up with Sneasel, which effectively lures out your opponent's Poliwrath into a Future Sight. Really cool strategy in my opinion!

On my side, you can see why always running 193 speed total on Roselia (even if you're using a defensive set) is a good idea. It always allows you to Synthesis before Poli moves, so sacrificing a little bulk for that is pretty useful.

^Another fun game against Scorp.

You can see just how many switches Scorp's Future Sight Mr. Mime, in conjunction with Sneasel and SubPunch Wrath all cause. It looks like I'm switching randomly, but we were both trying to counter each other's double switches. Likewise, I had to switch a lot in order to avoid Focus Punch and Waterfall from his Poliwrath. If Stealth Rock were up during this time, I would have lost for sure!

There was a point where I could've switched my Torkoal out near the end in order to avoid being KO'd by Future Sight, but I had no choice because I would've been switching my Pawniard into Poliwrath (which would've allowed it to Substitute and attack or Waterfall twice for free).

CACNEA THE GOD

Easily the funniest and most gimmick filled game ive ever had. I have taunt lead dodrio with Eject button to go into a Delibird that takes out leads with Seed Bomb and Aerial Ace coverage and an expert belt for always killing golem after fake out + seed bomb with some spikes thrown in. Diglett traps gets up rocks and mementos someone down to low health. Misdreavus can add a burn into the equation and memento again. After that you sub and smash pass with Huntail into Cacnea for the sweep you will see.. :]

>cm mr mime
>lo non-rain dance poliwrath
>signal beam HP DRAGON golduck because an unranked NFE is so important to hit
>ARCHEN

what am i watching lol

e: seriously though, it would be nice if people posted more serious replays in this thread too, joke replays can be funny but it would be nice to see some better matches too.

I've got a cool strategy that I wanted to show off in this thread (especially before Throh leaves). It's a thing I've been doing to deal with Throh when I don't really have a solid answer for it.

This strategy works the best during endgame when your opponent still has a Throh left. Basically, wait for the Fighting attack from Throh, then Encore it. From there, switch into your Ghost type and Trick the Choice item. Throh will be stuck using a Fighting move even after the Encore ends, which means it's effectively neutered at that point as it can no longer select Knock Off to use against your Ghost. You can use Specs or Band, but either is safe.

This is a combo that has a lot of utility even outside of countering Throh; Encore + ChoiceTrick can be used on almost any team, especially since most teams need a Ghost type and are often comprised of Encore users anyway (Poliwrath is a great example).

In general, Poliwrath with Encore is a nice RestTalk Throh counter anyway. For the Encores on Throh, check out Turns 20 (Sleep Talk Encored) and 24 (Storm Throw Encored for Dusknoir).

Here it is against ManofMany on one of my alts. Enjoy :-)
