A Little Piece of Heaven - Avenged Sevenfold

An experimental song. Bits of Broadway tunes mixed with hard rock to form a rather dark, but entertaining song to listen to. This song really brings out the late Rev's songwriting abilities.
What irony, someone recommend me to listen to this song some two hours ago. Like every other Avenged Sevenfold song, I didn't like it. I really don't see what is so good about these guys. The Rev is going to end up like Dimebag Darrell, which was die and suddenly because teh gretest musikian of hiz craft! Sorry I just find him to be a really overrated drummer who was in a really overrated band.

Megadeth - Trust

As Megadeth got further into their career in the 1990's, they started to lost the thrash elements. They became more of a standard heavy metal band, but by the dawn of 1999 even those elements were gone. Anyway, "Trust", is an excellent song from one of Megadeth's weaker albums Cryptic Writings. It starts out with a cool drum beat . The guitars slowly come in, and the momentum builds into the main riff. After the second chorus, the song slows down into a small acoustic riff. Slowly but sure it builds, then goes again into the solo. Marty Friedman's solo goes well with the song, but someone of his talent could have done a lot better. "Trust" finishes out after the chorus again. This song is different from the usual Megadeth songs, which tend to be about politics or war. This song is about love in a relationship. Overall a really good song from one of the band's weaker albums. 9/10

Sepultura - To the Wall

A lot of bands could learn a bit of real music
Man if only they put out more quality material like this! Sepultura just lost it after Arise however.

My favorite death metal band is no doubt Morbid Angel. Being one of the most influential death metal bands of all time, they wrote some amazing songs on their debut album Altars of Madness. "Immortal Rites" beings with the main riff being played backwards. The guitars contain an evil tone that sounds similar to that found on Slayer's Hell Awaits or Possessed's Seven Churches. The riffs just flow to perfection. Trey Azagthoth and Richard Brunelle just unleash so much power in their riffs. The vocals on "Immortal Rites" (As well as the rest of Altars of Madness.), are rather high-pitched and raspy. David Vincent's approach of the ghoul atmosphere is much better than the generic deep style that were used by countless vocalists after him. You can not leave out Pete Sandoval, his drumming is quite proficient. The only complaints I would have about this song (and many other Morbid Angel songs.), is that David Vincent's bass playing is drowned out by everything else. Overall, "Immortal Rites" is a perfect opening song from the greatest death metal album of all time, Altars of Madness. 10/10

Tame Impala - Alter Ego (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBSropdYqtY)

great song by psychedelic rock band "Tame Impala" from their debut album "InnerSpeaker".. its got a great vibe and one of the best releases from this year

oh, and the singer sounds like Lennon
Well the word "psychedelic" caught my attention, so I decided to check the song out. This sounds really good man. You're totally right about Kevin Parker sounding a lot like John Lennon!

Green River - Forever Means

This one song is the pinnacle of everything the band stood for. All of the rock hybridization that would become synonymous with the early 90's Seattle sound rolled into four minutes and twenty seconds of screeching, cathartic, buzz saw bliss. Grunge at its finest. Absolutely incredible.

Darkthrone - Natassja in Eternal Sleep

"Natassja in Eternal Sleep" is a fast paced song, with a mournful and repetitive tremolo melody that is accompanied by hauntingly sorrowful lyrics. The mood is evil yet mournful, as the lyrics tell the story of a dead witch. Musically, this is a perfect example of , what would become known as, the typical Darkthrone sound. If you like this song, check out the band's album Under a Funeral Moon.

Wintersun - Death and the Healing

Starts off with with the main riff, before drums come in. Plays a small solo and the riff until vocals come in, which are like tailored for this song. After the first chorus, goes into a calm part before blasting in a small solo before getting the vocals again. And keeps on. It's a rather dark-sounding song, but still incredible, and should be heard if you like melodic metal.

I happened to stumble upon this when I was listening to Kalmah on YouTube, and this song is my absolute favorite from their album. Or his, I should say: This is a complete 1-man project, only the drumming is via a session drummer. Which leads me to my next point. The drums in this song are absolutely perfect, they show what I believe drumming should always be: Provide a rhythmic backbone to a song, while highlighting the parts that needs to be highlighted, all the while adopting to the song as it goes. Absolute perfection.

Misery - Maroon 5

Fuck, I don't even like Maroon 5 but I love this song. Plus the video is p hot
Well, what did I expect? It's Maroon 5. I don't really care for music videos, and besides it'd be easier to just watch "porn", instead of this music video, as far as "hot" goes. I mean, at least the bad acting leads to something good.

Stina Nordenstam - Everyone Else In The World
It's really... something. It's hard to explain, but it's a really powerful song. Amazing really, for saying the artist has a relatively weak voice, though always full of emotion. It's not the best song if you need a pick-me-up, but it's definitely worth a listen.

Pele - Black Socks

Pele is one of my all time favorite bands. After parties Id just sit around with a few friends smoking hookah and listening to Pele. Black Socks is probably my favorite song by them. Every time I hear it I just want to get my dick sucked until I fall into a coma.

I would describe it as post-rock with a few jazz influences. If all you listen to is stuff like 300 BPM Dutch Hardcore or Grindcore then this will definitely seem dull and monotonous, otherwise its a great listen.

Diamond Head - The Prince

Diamond Head is a band that had some of the greatest, if not the greatest influence on Metallica. They influenced countless bands such as Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, a lot of thrash metal in general. "The Prince" is one of Diamond Head's greatest masterpieces. It is just a guitar player's dreams come to life. It's filled with harmonization, wild and crazy solos, and a few awesome riffs that you will know and love. However, the guitar is only a small portion of the awesomeness this song contains. The intro will blow you away with its fast-paced aggression and face-melting solo. The song does not let up, either. It keeps you on the wild ride and doesn't let go. 10/10

Ratatat - Sunblocks

Ratatat has always been one of my favorite instrumental bands (especially their stuff with Kid Cudi), and this song takes their characteristically sleepy beats to the next level. The guitar solo in the song is super awesome, complementing the electronic and nightime combination extremely well. Ratatat is an amazing stoner band and I recommend listening to them late at night high with the lights off and the a/c cranked way up (it makes the music that much better). Also, check out Cherry and Kid Cudi's raps using Ratatat's beats, Cleveland is the Reason and Pursuit of Happiness.

ALLURE - LITTLE ENGINE
short-lived hardcore band from the mid 90s ... i dont know where they're from

"Their only official release was the song Little Engine, which appeared on the Eucalyptus 2 x 7” Compilation (Tree Records, 1996). They also released a demo cassette entitled “Arms Can’t Move… Legs Can’t Bend” with 7 Untitled songs"

In stillness stands the man of steel,
holding in frozen hands the knowledge that steel is far too insensitive.
He climbs this ladder, this rusted ladder...
That one day he may find perfect air and feel beautiful.
I am here until the last,
my arms rusted to the rungs of this ladder.
Until it breaks beneath the weight of metal.
I fall against the ground...
I shatter...
Fragments of me scatter.
This was my life.
But in the unease of rebuilding the future,
I view a tree.
I wipe sad eyes and begin climbing.
I think I can.

OLD HEARTS CLUB - ON A HOT DAY IN MEXICO
another short-lived mellow emo band from cleveland ohio

"Released a single in 1996 on Old Hearts records and two songs on two compilations, “Israfel” (Ape Records) and “Taking A Chance On Chances” (Troubleman Unlimited). Some of the members went on to form The Six Parts Seven."

walk to the lakes in town
put your hand in mine
the girls gritting their teeth
pushing in the line

there's a border town with your name on it
every woman who's there
wakes at three in the morning
with you on her mind

and the dust dust in every woman's hair
sitting down to forget you forever and ever
and ever and ever and ever

its a burned out faith
if there was any in the first place
dust in your hair is like memories
falling out of your hair
my hands on your neck
my back to your face

Two songs:

Do You Call My Name - Ra

This song, despite being one of the band's first, is still my favorite and in my opinion the most unique sounding. The Egyptian themed intro can be a bit misleading for the ADD listener, but it serves its purpose of lulling you into a softer state of mind, thereby making the entrance of the guitar that much more heavy and intense by comparison. The dual melodies are both very genuine in sound and chord progression, so one can't say the sound is familiar or they've heard something similar before. The minor key of the overall song, including its dark sounding harmonies, particularly appeal to my tastes. Not only is it instrumentally sound, but Sahaj Ticotin (the lead singer) has an amazingly clear and well pitched voice, just one of his many talents. I would highly recommend this song and especially this band to anyone, whether they be rock music fans or just enjoy a well-composed piece.

Awake and Alive - Skillet

It is an absolute travesty that Skillet has not achieved alot of mainstream success. Unfortunately, falling under the Christian Rock label means alot of people won't even touch them, despite their amazing talent and universally acceptable style. That being said, this song is a testament to their years of hard work in refining and perfecting their sound, both instrumentally and vocally. A far cry from their rougher, early years, Awake and Alive continues the usage of orchestral backgrounds in conjunction with their hard hitting rock. Add in the polished vocals of both the male lead singer and female drummer and you have an unusually clean and harmonious rock piece whose quality far surpasses many of the more famous, mainstream groups in today's scene. Skillet is the perfect example of a vastly underappreciated band that has been denied its deserved success because of the anti-Christian biases of the mainstream music industry. I would highly recommend this song and band not only to Christian Rock fans, but to fans of regular hard rock. I assure you this is not gospel music, and you are not bombarded with preaching and the like.

Let us tone down the inane exaggeration shall we? Even if Skillet were REALLY good, it would not be a travesty, it would be a little unfortunate, but a completely average misfortune. Unfortunately, Skillet are the same as most every Christian rock band/metal: a complete fucking ripoff of everything generic that turns out completely average and not worth anyones time or attention. They have not been denied anything because of being Christian, stop making this a gross injustice. They have no large success because their works sound the exact same as a million other bands. Yes, some of those bands get lucky for sounding the same as every other band, but that makes them lucky, not the other bands unlucky. Throwaway slow paced guitar that a ten year old could play, throwaway barely hard vocals that never really go anywhere, and in this case some dinky "orchestral" effects...wah wah

http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/skillet

and no, rateyourmusic scores do not "definitively" mean anything, but a band with nothing over a 3.5 is usually worthless except for very specific fans of the genre...but Skillet do not BELONG to any genre, at least not anymore. I may be misremembering, but I think they at least used to have a LITTLE real edge, but that is very clearly gone. And no, there is no "anti-Christian bias" in critical ratings at rateyourmusic, http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/neal_morse (who I think is god awful but hey whatever). Hmm what else...not really a substantial enough amount of ratings, but http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/craigs_brother http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/saviour_machine okay this one has a more substantial amount of votes...anyway, you can whine all you want to turn something into an injustice, but you are just making some inane case for a band you in PARTICULAR happen to really like despite them, in reality, sounding like a bland ripoff of pop values that already ripped off metal except it was like 15 years ago and Christian music is just catching up because that is how Christian music always is et cetera et cetera; hell even poppy shit like 12 Stones had a more inspired sound than this!

(and no, I do not personally have a problem with Christian music; I love Extol and Calibretto13 and always will)
