TIME'S UP!

Voting and judging stages of the fifth episode is over. The teams are now finally revealed!

This team belongs to Smallsmallrose.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
This team is rather impressive in this criterion: a Togekiss set that doesn't have Air Slash in its repertoire, a Trick Room Cresselia set with a nifty tech in Z-Psychic, and finally, a Mega Camerupt that has never been used before. What makes this team a point short of getting a perfect score in this criterion is that the rest of the team has rather standard sets, but the three aforementioned Pokemon having those nifty sets outweigh it.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
The team has taken advantage of the secret ingredient rather minimally, and in the case of Stakataka, it is extremely proficient at what it does. However, in the case of Togekiss, while there is a reason to run Dazzling Gleam, Air Slash is the better move in the long run; therefore, the set you employ is actually for the sake of the secret ingredient, which is relatively a letdown in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
While this is a semi-Trick Room team, this team lacks a more solid win condition even without the presence of Trick Room, since Heracross is relatively slow compared to some of the win conditions available, and Hydreigon sweeping by virtue of Choice Scarf-boosted Dark Pulses is uncommon nowadays. Also, a lack of a more formidable Water apart from Hydreigon makes this team have to tread carefully against Suicune variants, especially the patented Vincune set. However, the greatest attribute this team has which I really appreciated the most is that you take advantage of Mega Camerupt nicely with Trick Room, though it's rather sad that you didn't put Explosion to give your team some form of momentum with Trick Room turns running out. Nonetheless, a valiant effort in building this team, and Mega Camerupt is something worth building on my end in the future.

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. vivalospride: LOSS
vs. warzoid: LOSS

This team belongs to Iron Chef Darksafadao.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
This team employs rather standard sets with some nifty techs -- the likes of Substitute on Terrakion, and Toxic on both Empoleon and Hippowdon, hence a a rather average score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The Pokemon in question are hands down proficient at what they do despite the minimal use of the requirements, with Chandelure and Empoleon taking advantage of those moves nicely.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
Despite your loss against Iron Chef vivalospride by virtue of a perfectly set-up Scizor, this team still has its merits in terms of effectiveness. It has almost all of the tools to make the team as effective as possible -- actually, it has to tread carefully against status conditions; it has to be careful switching your win conditions Chandelure and Terrakion in. As for the Scizor weakness, Chandelure is somehow frail to take a boosted Bullet Punch, and Empoleon fears moves other than U-turn; otherwise, it is a solid team worth showcasing in this episode. Good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

The winner of this episode, with a cumulative weighted average of 64.98%, goes to...

Iron Chef Darksafadao!

Iron Chef Darksafadao has outlasted his challenger Smallsmallrose in this cooking showdown, most notably because the Underused community has hailed his team as the most essential and the best-tasting among the dishes presented, hence his team being etched into the Hall of Fame. Here's the spreadsheet on how I come up with all the computations.

The sixth episode of Iron Chef will be up very soon. What will the Chairman unveil? Find out when Underused Iron Chef returns!

Good day, everyone! The sixth episode is now up!

For this episode, allow me to introduce to you a special guest who is into TV series, and he is no other than...

SETH McFARLANE!
Seth McFarlane, an animation graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, is an American actor, animator, voice actor, filmmaker, and singer who once worked under Hanna-Barbera for several television series such as "Johnny Bravo", "Cow and Chicken", and "Dexter's Laboratory". He is also best known to be the co-creator of the TV series "American Dad!" (2005-present) and "The Cleveland Show" (2009-2013), and to write, direct, and be starred in films such as "Ted" (2012), "Ted 2" (2015), and "A Million Ways to Die in the West" (2014).

[source]

One of the most notable TV series creations for Seth McFarlane is "The Orville" (2017-present) and this secret ingredient for this episode, and now feel free to raise the dome!

. . . . . . .

FAMILY GUY!

"Family Guy" is an American animated sitcom that centers on the Griffin family. The reason for choosing this secret ingredient is because most players often use fully-evolved Pokemon to take on against other Pokemon, which isn't be the case in some situations. In this affair, participants must build a team featuring at least one unevolved/baby Pokemon (qualified for LC / LC Uber), and at least one Stage 1 evolution Pokemon that has yet to evolve (tl;dr: middle evolution).

Participants have until
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

TIME IS UP!

Before proceeding to the voting / judging stages, the Chairman will be announcing something worth addressing for the succeeding episodes.

ADVISORY FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Apparently, Rawbi did not manage to at least schedule a match against any of the Iron Chefs for this episode; as per the original mechanic, the team will not be presented. However, since Iron Chef has reached halfway through the season, this mechanic will be changed to address the situation.

With that, the voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

This team is inspired from the Chairman's take on Sticky Web featuring Swirlix. Z-Conversion Porygon2 adds a spicy flavor which complements the overall effectiveness of Sticky Web as a whole. Mamoswine sets up Stealth Rock while taking advantage of Sticky Web; it exerts pressure to most Flying types better thanks to its priority Ice Shard. Finally, Scizor, Mega Altaria, and Crawdaunt are capable of exerting another layer of pressure to the opponent through their set-up moves (Swords Dance and Dragon Dance, respectively) and dishing massive damage to the opponent.

This team features Type: Null serving as a bastion against almost all forms of Special Attacks opponent would throw at while not losing momentum by virtue of U-turn. It is then coupled with Doublade to take any Fighting attack Type: Null dislikes taking while bolstering its match-up against Latias. The team is then showered with offensive powerhouses such as: Mamoswine, capable of setting up Stealth Rock as well; Rotom-Heat, capable of compressing its role as a hazard controller and as a reactive answer against Scizor and Flying-types; and Hydreigon, capable of breaking stall archetypes with Taunt. Latias ends up the icing on the cake for deterring any Pokemon that would outrun the whole team.

This team is built on Meditite due to its Pure Power matching its attack to sky-high levels. For the Pokemon to succeed, the team focuses on setting hazards on the opponent's side of the field by virtue of Nihilego and Forretress and clearing hazards on the player's side by virtue of Tsareena. Suicune is then added to serve as a back-up win condition in case Meditite failed to deliver its ability to defeat opponents. Finally, Magneton is another Pokemon chosen as a secret ingredient thanks to delivering another power game to the opponent by virtue of Choice Specs.

. . . . . . .
The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2
ESSENCE: Team 2, Team 3
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 3, Team 1
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 2 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 3 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 3 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
2. Team 1 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
The Chairman becomes a little lenient by not requiring everyone to put the reasons behind their vote! While the Chairman is hoping for a better voter turnout in this episode and in the succeeding episodes, should the UU community wants to put reasons behind their vote, those are very welcome.

. . . . . . .

The UU community has until
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are
the most original,
the most essential,

and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

ALLEZ, CUISINE!

Creativity: Team 1. This team takes a rather bold approach by deploying webs. Z-conversion Porygon, Dragon Dance Crawdaunt, Freeze Dry Mamoswine, and Double priority Scizor are also welcome in creativity standards.
Essence: Again, going to have to give this to team 1. Team 1 uses both the baby mon and the middle evolution to their fullest potential. Swirlix serves a very important role in the team, and is part of the primary wincon despite being the baby. Porygon 2 serves a unique, yet powerful role that couldn't really be filled in by anything else off the top of my head.
Effectiveness: I'll have to give it to team 1 once again. While it deploys normally unorthodox sets and strange sweeper options, it actually covers a number of weaknesses associated with the webs archetype, such as a weakness to floating dragons like Hydreigon and Latias, and flying types in the vein of Aerodactyl and Crobat. Threats like Moltres or Mega Pidgeot might serve as some of the biggest issues, but not even those are unbeatable from this team's standpoint. So good work on the builder here!

TIME'S UP!

Voting and judging stages of the sixth episode is over. The teams are now finally revealed!

This team belongs to Iron Chef vivalospride.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
Apparently, no one else is brave enough to use Swirlix on an Underused team but you, and the Chairman surely is proud of your handiwork. Swirlix and Z-Conversion Porygon2 are rather nifty options that gave away a lot of creativity points here; the rest of the team are rather standard that did not warrant a perfect score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
The team's choice of secret ingredient became integral to the success of the whole team, with everyone else in the team benefiting from Sticky Web while at the same time standing on their own even without it.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
As polarizing Sticky Web play style is, this team is effective enough in supporting such strategy well. Sadly, this play style has such volatile match-ups by its very nature that puts an inescapable cap on this criterion -- not to mention some of the bulky builds being a pain to deal with due to the lack of immediate power the team has. Nonetheless, this is a valiant effort on your end.

TOTAL SCORE: 15 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. xMarth: LOSS
vs. warzoid: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: WIN

This team belongs to Smallsmallrose.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
Type: Null being the centerpiece of the team is not enough to warrant enough creativity points: the rest of the team are cookie-cutter staples for a bulky offense team like this.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
The use of the secret ingredient makes the score in the essence criterion all the more intriguing; you gave another meaning to Type: Null as one of the most promising pivots thanks to U-turn. The team composition is well thought-out that Type: Null and Doublade are integral to the team's success.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7.5 / 10
This is one of the best teams you have ever made so far, though there would be some options worth considering to make the team a lot better. You could opt for Toxic on Rotom-Heat or Type: Null (being the most logical choice in this affair) to wear down some of the bulkiest Pokemon in the tier, and with that you could have taken advantage of Hydreigon's Taunt way further. Also, with Doublade as your sole set-up attacker, the team lacks some form of immediate power; Mamoswine cannot break some of the bulkiest teams alone. Nonetheless, this team is effective enough to outlast other teams, hence warranting a high score in this criterion. Good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 14 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. xMarth: LOSS
vs. warzoid: WIN

This team belongs to Jetstertsyko.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Meditite being the sole Pokemon that was never used by anyone in the team, along with Tsareena and Forretress being rather uncommon options, warrant a fairly average score in this criterion; the rest of the team bears standard sets and can be seen more frequently than those three.

ESSENCE: 1.5 / 5
It seems that you actually use Meditite being one of the secret ingredients in this episode; however, Medicham would have done way much better, and you could have used another unevolved Pokemon in this process, such as Gligar and Sneasel, among others. While you do have Magneton to make up for it, the team's strategy isn't cohesive just because you wanted Meditite to shine -- while your effort has been acknowledged, sadly, it doesn't work here.

EFFECTIVENESS: 3 / 10
This is especially reflective of the Essence criterion: while your team is based on hazard stacking, it is sad that the Pokemon in question did not manage to take advantage of those things very well. Even with the defensive presence of Tsareena, Suicune, Nihilego, and Forretress, this team falls flat to any physical setup attacker while having underwhelming offensive pressure all-around, making it a very confused team that has many goals but accomplishes none. You should have known better, especially you have won the fourth episode of UU Iron Chef, where expectations have raised to a higher level; nonetheless, your effort to stay on course in this project has been acknowledged, which is great on your part.

TOTAL SCORE: 7 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

ADVISORY FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Good day, everyone! It's time for me to announce a lot of things for UU Iron Chef! Apologies if I didn't manage to make an art for most of the newly-appointed Iron Chef Staff; got myself too busy over the past week, but hopefully I could get them done real soon!

Anyway, announcing to you the newly-appointed Iron Chef Staff!

IRON CHEFS:
- esche is now reprising his role as one of the Iron Chefs, now that he made a return.
- vivalospride has shifted his role from the Chairman's right hand to critique teams to a full-fledged Iron Chef.
- Smallsmallrose is one of the most recent additions to UU Iron Chef due to her overall improving performance over six episodes.

This means, xMarth, warzoid, and Darksafadao still remain as other formidable Iron Chefs ready to take on any challenger!

PANEL OF JUDGES:
- With esche returning as Iron Chef, eht is his Judge counterpart.
- The Chairman has appointed naruto(sage) as part of the Panel of Judges due to his performance in one of the Iron Chef Live episodes.
- With Smallsmallrose taking the role as Iron Chef, DraconicLepus is another recent addition taking the role as a Judge.

Now, for some of the changes in the mechanics, wherein it will be reflected in the original post soon:

PHASE 3: JUDGING AND VOTING
  • Once all battles are completed, the Chairman will reveal all of the teams without revealing the contestant's name and their corresponding battle replays.
  • Regardless of the outcome of the Iron Chef match(es), all teams sent to the Chairman are subject to evaluations and criticisms from the most esteemed Panel of Judges, and to voting from Iron Chefs, co-participants and third parties.
    • If contestants have sent the dish to the Chairman but didn't manage to issue a challenge on any of the Iron Chefs, their dish will not be presented.
    • Conversely, if contestants completed battles with the Iron Chefs but didn't manage to send the dish (note: with brief descriptions required; guide questions found above) to the Chairman, their dish will not be presented.
The rules in blue will be amended such that participants who didn't manage to battle against the Iron Chefs. As such:
  • If contestants have sent the dish to the Chairman but didn't manage to issue a challenge on any of the Iron Chefs, their dish will not be presented. contestants should go through the Chairman for a mandatory contingent Iron Chef battle, and regardless of the result of that match, they must face the consequence of getting a zero weighted average in the Iron Chef Battles aspect.
    • If, in any case, the contestant did not show up within the first twenty-four hours of the judging phase, the contestant's team will not be presented, and the contestant is barred from participating in one succeeding episode.

  • Conversely, if contestants completed battles with the Iron Chefs but didn't manage to send the dish (note: with brief descriptions required; guide questions found above) to the Chairman, their dish will not be presented. contestants should send the dish within the first twenty-four hours of the judging phase.
    • If, in any case, the contestant did not submit the dish within the allotted time, the contestant's team will not be presented, and the contestant is barred from participating in one succeeding episode.

Here is to hoping everything is clear from the next episode onward. Feel free to post any questions in this thread before commencing the seventh episode, which will be a few hours from now.

What will the Chairman unveil next? Find out when UU Iron Chef returns.

Good day, everyone!

This time, I apologize for doing this earlier than expected, as I grow a little sleepy and heading to bed any minute now, so allow me to unveil the next secret ingredient today!

Before that, however, the format on unveiling secret ingredients from this episode onward doesn't involve any special guests -- just like the past formats and the Live one.

With that, the seventh episode is now up! Time to lift up the domes!

HALF-LIFE!

With some of the Pokemon in the metagame are falling out of usage due to some of the metagame trends, participants must feature a team of six Pokemon such that the cumulative usage percentage of all of these Pokemon should not exceed 20%. Use this link as your reference.

Participants have until
