S to A+: This just isn't S rank. It's had a good amount of consistent counterplay for a long while, and has pretty much become a matchup fish of running random wacky coverage on CM sets and praying you don't run into the mons that wall you. Sleep ban also hurt it a lot, as Hypnosis was its best chance at beating stuff like Glowking. Obviously it still has a ton of great traits, but it's not as dominant as it once was.
S to A+: I still think this mon is ridiculous, but the meta has adapted well enough and it's not often sweeping teams. With more testing, I could easily see this rising back up to S, but for now I think A+ better reflects its recent achievements.
A+ to A: This mon is obviously great, but it legitimately cannot touch Magnezone, the #1 removal option. This
sucks for what is ostensibly a hazard setter, and really hits its viability hard. However, Glisc is still the best Ground (and particularly the best SpDef Ground) in the tier, so a minor drop is all it needs.
A+ to A: The meta has not been kind to Mr. Tusk here. Firstly, Tusk is one of the worst Ground types you can run right now. It completely fails to check Jolteon and Thundurus, and even Raging Bolt can smoke you if it catches you on the switch. The other big problem is that Magnezone is far better at Spinning, being able to comfortably beat Gliscor and most lead Deo-S sets while also being naturally immune to Spikes and Tspikes. Tusk can in theory beat both of those mons as well, but the 4MSS between running STABs, Ice Spinner, Knock Off, Temper Flare, and Rapid Spin is serious. It's still a great mon, and offensive sets like Band to take advantage of Rollout are still underexplored, but I think a drop is reasonable at this point.
A+ to A: This mon's kind of a victim of my VR restructure more than anything, which you'll see a lot more of later. Part of my goal with this VR was to slim down what I saw as large amounts of bloat, particularly in the lower tiers, where mons were ranked much higher in viability than they realistically are. By dropping Iron Valiant and Ogerpon-H to A+, Skarmory began to stick out like a sore thumb, as its passivity and the fact that folks are prepping for it pretty heavily now makes it a good bit worse than defensive tools like Glowking and Milotic. This one isn't as much of a shoe-in as some of the other drops, but I think it's worth considering.
A to A-: I think this mon is a bit overrated at the moment. It's a solid physical wall, but its true potential comes out in Rain, and I don't think it's so good outside of Rain as to be ranked all the way up in A. I wouldn't mind a Pelipper rise to A- to better match Rain's viability along with this if yall feel it's necessary, but I think an Arch drop is justified at the very least.
A to A-: Great mon for hazard stacking teams, but those teams aren't the greatest right now because of their inability to handle bulky Healing Stones squads. Outside of that role, this mon has been quite lackluster as of late, as its defensive matchups aren't amazing and every team naturally has a defensive check to it just from standard building practices in the current meta. Obviously still a great tool, but not quite A-worthy imo.
A to A-: Not much of a mystery here, Jolteon is just better in the current meta. Thundurus is slower but makes more progress into fatter teams, which are currently just about nonexistent, making Thundy a pretty dubious choice in most matchups compared to Jolteon.
A- to B+: Another mon hurt a ton by its terrible Magnezone matchup. Between Zone, Milotic, and Skarmory, it's very hard for setup Bax to make progress. I've had some success running Band, but I don't think it's consistent enough to be ranked so high.
A- to B+: Absolutely terrifying setup sweeper, but requires a lot of team support and checks like Milotic and Great Tusk to be weakened before it can sweep teams. Not consistent enough for the A tiers imo.
A- to B+: Another victim of the restructuring. Iron Moth is just as good as the last time I asked for it to drop, but it's more similar to a Greninja level of good than it is to the Deo-S level.
A- to B: This can beat just about every mon in the meta with the right set, but in actual games it just doesn't have enough tools to do that most of the time. Sets that run coverage for Magnezone and Milotic sacrifice matchups into Gliscor, Glowking, and many of the tier's other defensive staples, and in practice it's just kind of lackluster.
A- to B: This mon just doesn't have very many good matchups in the current meta, with most offensive mons being able to cleanly 2HKO it with neutral STABs, and Magnezone having many of the same positive matchups while also being a Spinner. Offensive Zapdos also falls short both because of the aforementioned Zone, but also because Jolteon and Thundurus perform much better in the role. It's not even a good defogger, as most hazard setters are able to force it out or at least cripple it while it tries to Defog on them. Overall, I don't really see much reason to use this mon right now.
B+ to B: Another victim of the restructuring, though this mon has also been a lot less consistent ever since Rekindle and especially Justified got nerfed.
B+ to B: This mon is just very meh currently. Weavile and the Ogerpons are far better options for just about anything Meow wants to do, and mons like Skarmory and Zamazenta put a serious damper on anything Meow would want to do. It's still usable, and might just be suffering from a lack of exploration, but right now I don't think it's B+ material.
B+ to B-: This mon just does nothing over Iron Jugulis. Without NP, by far its best set in OU, this guy was already a questionable slot on teams, but then you compare it to the absolute menace that is Jugulis and it becomes very apparent that this mon is out of a job. Still gonna rank it B- because the extra Speed and coverage over Jugulis can be notable at times, but I fully expect this to drop further in the future unless we give it back NP.
B+ to B-: RIP bozo + Sun sucks + better offensive Waters/Dragons put this out of a job.
B+ to C-: This mon got extremely overrated early on because it didn't have much usage and folks weren't sure how to rank it, but yeah. This mon sucks. Milotic and Primarina, both incredibly common mons, completely stuff it, and even other guys like Glowking and Amoonguss can also handle setup sets (the only ones which really benefit from Water Veil). Fully expect this to go unranked eventually but I wanted to give it a chance.
B to B-: Another restructuring victim. I don't think this mon is actually much worse after the Sleep ban, but its horrible matchups into meta staples like Glowking and Gholdengo do seriously limit its potential. Could understand opposition to this drop, as it does very well into a lot of current threats like the Ogerpons and Primarina.
B to B-: I just don't get what this mon does. It loses to Magnezone, can't comfortably wall the Ogerpons, and is a dead slot into Rain. I would pretty much always prefer one of the Water/Fairies.
B to B-: This guy's aight and can be pretty good in the right hands, but I've found its bulk to be pretty lacking for what is ostensibly a defensive mon, and it really struggles to do anything of note against Grassy Terrain teams.
B to B-: Sun sucks. Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt are very scary mons, but they are just about all that Sun brings to the table, and both mons function very well on their own anyway, not to mention how dominant Rain (one of Sun's worst matchups) is in the current meta. Tork and all other Sun abusers got a drop on my VR for these reasons.
B to B-: Another victim of restructuring. This mon isn't necessarily bad, but it's just outclassed by mons like Iron Jugulis and even Zapdos. I think with more testing my mind could maybe be changed, but from what I've seen of it I haven't been impressed.
B to C: Mon is trash. You just can't slot all the moves to handle the tier's defensive cores with SD, and even if you could, we have much better sweepers you could use instead.
B to UR: Hoodra and Hydrapple both do this mon's niche better, particularly Hydrapple.
B- to C+: Restructuring victim #57. Definitely usable, but it faces a lot of issues as well as competition from Milotic and Primarina which push it down in overall viability.
B- to C+: Just kind of lackluster as an offensive mon. Iron Valiant and Enamorus are a lot more consistent.
B- to C+: Sand is funny but very inconsistent. Shocks has seen some experimentation outside of Sand but it's nothing spectacular and Sand sets are generally better, so C+ fits these mons better than B-.
B- to C+: More restructuring. This mon's viability hasn't changed but it's still very inconsistent and hard to slot on teams, so I think it makes sense for it to be C+
B- to C+: I love Iron Crown, but realistically it's just not that consistent and is pretty much locked to HO.
B- to C+: Fine enough breaker, but it has quite a few flaws and problem matchups that do hold it back a good bit, and in my opinion too much to be ranked B-.
B- to C: I've been running GTerrain offense and I don't even use Hawlucha on my build. I think this mon is just kind of mediocre, being a niche tool on an already niche playstyle, and B- is overrating it heavily.
B- to C: It's pretty tough to slot this mon on teams, as it's very one-note and its best playstyle, Rain, often doesn't have the room to slot it in anyway. It certainly has its uses but it's very rare, and I think C fits it better.
B- to C: I'll be real, the main reason I'm dropping this is because nobody uses it. That being said, I think Skarmory does better at most of its roles. It definitely has potential as a Ghost resist, but considering that in the modern meta that pretty much just means "Dragapult answer", you're better off running Garganacl, Toxapex, or one of the many offensive Dark types.
B- to C: Yeah this mon is pretty terrible now unfortunately (give it back the hazard immunity). It still has some utility that can't be replicated by anything else, but its lack of offensive power into key meta figures like Milotic and Skarmory make it a hard sell.
B- to C: See Torkoal. Sun sucks, Venu isn't even mandatory on Sun, so there's no way Venu is somehow B-.
B- to C-: This mon is just pretty bad. Other mons like Fezandipiti and Spiritomb do the role of fat Wisp mon better, and Torch Song just isn't that scary in the current meta. Even stall doesn't want to run it, as it can't even beat Ogerpon-Hearthflame 1v1 despite resisting both of its STABs.
B- to UR: Awful mon. I see no reason to run this in the current meta, as even if you wanted an offensive Psychic type you could just use Deoxys-Speed or Hoopa-U.
C+ to C: This guy sucks pretty bad without HP or Tera to make up for its nonexistent coverage. It might have sauce but nobody's really shown that yet despite it getting a fair bit of usage already.
C+ to C: Another restructuring victim, though this mon's weaknesses are also just a lot more noticeable when it can't cheese 3 kill with Muddy Water accuracy drops.
C+ to UR: Nobody runs this mon, there's not really any reason to run this mon, it's just not good.
C+ to UR: Magnezone. Also Skarmory.
C+ to UR: I could not tell you the last time this mon saw usage, and I also could not tell you what role it's supposed to have in this meta.
C+ to UR: Completely outclassed by the other Ogerpons, also Magnezone exists.
C+ to UR: What does this do? Like I'm so serious, I do not understand why you would run this mon. Its offensive profile is trash, it loses to all the most common defensive mons, and it's easy to wear down because it can't run Boots without sacrificing the huge bulk boost from Mantis Claw, so you're stuck in a lose-lose situation between taking constant hazard chip and being too frail to consistently switch into anything but the most passive of fatmons.
C to C-: While this mon is very funny, I don't think it's consistent at all, and fatter mons like Pecharunt and Fezandipiti have shown to be generally better Hazardous Waste abusers. Still can go hard in the right circumstances with the right support, so I'm down with it staying ranked.
C to C-: I've used this mon quite a bit recently, and it has consistently disappointed me. I think a lot of it has to do with the meta - its best matchups (Great Tusk, Iron Valiant, Enamorus) are generally worse here and have more consistent counterplay, while a lot of the best offensive mons (Ogerpon-W, Iron Hands, Raging Bolt) beat it pretty handily. There's definitely still potential with this mon but idk if it's really worth running most of the time.
C to C-: This mon can be kind of funny at times and maybe it's just underexplored, but generally I think it's agreed that its passivity makes it not worth running over other defensive tools most of the time.
C to C-: Same as all the other C- drops. Extremely niche mon that can potentially be good in the right hands but generally isn't worth it over other options.
C to UR: This is ass. I've been able to sorta kinda make it work after a lot of testing but there is no way it's VR-worthy lmao. That speed tier is just so lackluster, even at +1.
C to UR: Literally fake. Between Magnezone, Skarmory, and Milotic, this mon has no place in the current meta, especially compared to much better physical Dragons like Baxcalibur and Roaring Moon.
C to UR: No clue what this does. Needs more results if it wants to be ranked again.
C to UR: Melo is my baby, but this had to be done. Mon just cannot function in a meta with so many immunities to its STABs. CM sets are underexplored and could have potential, but at its current level of development this mon doesn't deserve a VR placement.
C to UR: Just use Crabominable. Skewda and Legion are much better in Rain as well so this mon really has no purpose in OU.
C to UR: This mon was very much a reaction to the dominance of Iron Valiant in the later slates of Vape, but modern meta shifts have kinda pushed this mon out. It really doesn't do well at all into teams with any sort of defensive backbone, and that hurts it a lot when stuff like Glowking and Skarmory are everywhere.
C to UR: This mon hasn't been able to replicate the success it had a few months ago on ladder, so unfortunately I think it must once again drop to the pits of UR. Maybe next time, buddy.
C- to UR: Just run Deo-S.
C- to UR: Could maybe do stuff sometimes, but there's better options for physical breakers.
C- to UR: Too niche to be ranked.
C- to UR: Completely lacking in results and also Sun still sucks.
C- to UR: Too frail to be worth it over other physical breakers.
C- to UR: Too many awful matchups among the top tiers.
C- to UR: No results, also just run Glowking.
C- to UR: Like Lycanroc, but weaker!
C- to UR: No recent results, also just run Magearna or Clefable.
C- to UR: Sun sucks.
C- to UR: Doesn't do anything. Why do we have 4 physical Rocks in C- anyway lol that's way too many.
UR TOTAL: 24
