NOC Vote n' Veto NOC Mafia - Game Thread [Game Over - Town Win!]

Yeah interest was my real concern with both Deathnote and OC. You can't scale down deathnote and you generally need to target the size of your OC game as you're designing it plus if you run with fewer than 15 people it isn't a good time. I would still design one if there was enough interest though, because I personally really loved Outside Communication Mafia as something interesting that only Smogon was doing.

If anyone is interested in playing OC in the future, react here. If I get more than 10 I'll know it's worth it to try for an OC game and work on designing something over the next month before putting it through Game Proposals.
it probably isn't sadly. probably best bet would be some kind of multifaction tactical game. people generally seem to like FFAs but don't like team games. i never really figured out why. maybe it's an internet thing. we're all on here to get away from people

tbh it's kind of incredible to me that smogon outside contact mafia was ever a thing. maybe someone else knows better than me but I haven't seen anybody play "mafia" or similar forum games oc like we used to. i know forums generally were more popular a decade+ ago but still, never really got why that took off here and nowhere else. need to find someone older than me for that answer maybe AG knows why lol

Outside Contact was about how it started. It was some small part roleplay at first, IIRC. At least it partly seemed that way, when I looked back on the first game ever on Smogon.

Pretty sure OC died down in part because of a village leader meaning it was more of just the guy who was cleaned by an inspector + a couple others who got cleaned in role madness with lots of votes vs a group with 100% alignment information (but not roles).

the problem with original oc mafia, imo, was that it was way too circle jerky. like for town, you get one person as "town leader" - always someone veteran who can "carry", and then they rely completely on mechs so they pick one or two others, who are usually their friends and everyone just sheeps not knowing what's happening and mafia basically can't do much either, the game kind of autoplays.

so for oc I do think sometimes you gotta either 1)hope no one knows follow the leader meta or 2) not give town ways to hardclear like so, or just give mafia really strong ways to counter I guess. I am not an oc expert by any means though.

smogon used to be known for oc games kinda, idk anymore but back when we were still doing 2 at a time one noc and one oc, maybe egen4-5 years ago, I know other communities HAD done it but smogon was regarded as super good and the meta broke the fun a bit. it's kinda died out everywhere in general now since though.

In one game I hosted, I gave the three mafias ways to shatter town ability to unite. They promptly fought each other and forgot to stop the town from doing anything. But then, that was multifaction... could be done with just one mafia, I guess.

multifaction is probably better for oc, but you need at least 4 teams so the first loser doesn't just become a king maker and then 4 teams is hard to get players for and also it's debatably not even mafia at that point LMAO but eimm

not that that's unfun ofc

smogeimm anyone?
you're about 4 years late https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/smogeimm-game-over-winners-euklyd-nuxl-vooper.3653528/

(we could have another sometime though)

pulsar512b surface level it's free for all mafia where you have a role and are trying to be last one standing, but also you are allowed privately DM people, but in practice it's evolved far away from mafia over the course of 6-7 years since its creation, and now it's closer to survivor or an org of some sort with a mafia type coat
