Congrats Katy and Vengeance417 for winning this week!

Week 5
This week we have Mega Scizor!
183257

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 244 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Knock Off / Superpower

With decent defensive stats and reliable recovery, Mega Scizor is a great consistent check to top-tier attackers like Mega Alakazam, Tapu Bulu, and Kyurem-Black. It also has a powerful Technician-boosted Bullet Punch, a boosting move in Swords Dance, and different attacking options like U-turn, Knock Off, Superpower, or even Bug Bite, making it no slouch offensively either. It's time to make it the victim - what do you have for it?

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
Scald
Toxic
Recover
Haze

There's not much to say here, Toxapex is by far the best counter to Mega Scizor. Its typing, bulk, access to Haze, as well as being able to fish for Scald burns completely invalidates it.

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake / Dragon Claw
- Roost

This serves as a great check to Mega Scizor. Just about any of Zard X's viable sets will do vs Mega Scizor since it takes nothing from any of Scizor's attacks even when it's boosted, but I'll include the Dragon Dance set as a notable example since Zard will use Scizor as set up fodder. Meanwhile, Flare Blitz OHKOs Scizor no matter if Zard's boosted or not.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 188 Def / 72 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

Zapdos is an amazing counter against all types of Mega Scizor able to take hits easily after a sword dance and has a chance to paralyze with Static, while also being able to get a chance to ohko with heat wave after rocks, however, zapdos dislikes having leftovers removed against knock off variants , but can still beat it nonetheless.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 180 SpD / 76 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Protect
- Stealth Rock

Heatran is a solid counter to all variants of Mega Scizor bar offensive Superpower variants that have seen very minimal success. Its faster than Scizor, quad-resists Bullet Punch (and negates the damage with Lefties, assuming they aren’t knocked) and dispatches it with Lava Plume. While Superpower variants are faster, they fail to OHKO without Attack investment or boosted (this is the reason I chose the Leftovers set—if you aren’t max-HP, this MU may be incredibly poor). Heatran can also scout the move with Protect. While the metal bug scurries away, Heatran can burn, poison or set Rocks on a switch-in.

Reserving Specs Lele

Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest / Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Specs Lele guarantees Ohkos M.Scizor after Rocks, or if running Modest Lele just Ohkos without chip. Terrain not only blocks Bullet Punch from ever picking Lele off at low Hp it helps the rest of the team check M.Scizor while its up, blocking Bullet Punch for all grounded mons for 4 turns, extending its effectiveness as a check. Is to be noted however that with the SpDef M.Scizor runs, it can safely switch into Timid Psyshics, only having an 8% chance to Ko after rocks. I prefer Modest for this reason, as it has an 88% chance to 2hko after Rocks, as well as the extra damage throughout the match.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 344-408 (100.2 - 118.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 316-372 (92.1 - 108.4%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 316-372 (92.1 - 108.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega in Psychic Terrain: 144-171 (41.9 - 49.8%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega in Psychic Terrain: 131-155 (38.1 - 45.1%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Reserving Magnezone

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest / Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire

Kinda self explanatory here, switch in on a Swords Dance or Bullet Punch and pray for no Superpower smacking you on the switch, then Hidden Power Fire it into the shadow realm while it can’t switch out to avoid the Hidden Power Fire in time.

Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 240 HP / 52 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Roost

Volcarona is a great counter to Mega Scizor. It doesn't mind a +2 Bullet Punch at all, manages to outspeed Mega Scizor, and can easily OHKO it with Flamethrower.

rotom wash

437-4376700_global-link-wash-rotom-wash-dream-world-hd.jpg

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Rotom-Wash is a great check to SD Mega-Scizor as it can switch comfortably into its Bullet Punch even after a +2 due to Swords Dance, furthermore Rotom-Wash can use its Will-o-Wisp
to pick Mega-Scizor and cripples it down with the status condition burn, which makes Mega-Scizor useless for the rest of the entire battle, as Mega-Scizor doesn't like to get burned at all.
However if Mega-Scizor runs Knock off, Rotom-Wash has to be worry about getting its Item knocked off and makes it that the longevity on Rotom-Wash's side is decreased for the rest of the game, but in overall Rotom-Wash can even tank a +2
Knock Off into Bullet Punch as it resists Bullet Punch 4x.
Washtom can even switch into a +2 Superpower and tanks a Bullet Punch afterwards being able to cripple Mega-Scizor down with its Wisp.

Calcs:
unboosted:
0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 16-19 (5.2 - 6.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever
0 Atk Scizor-Mega Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 48-57 (15.7 - 18.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Scizor-Mega Superpower vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 88-104 (28.9 - 34.2%) -- 1.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

boosted:
+2 0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 33-39 (10.8 - 12.8%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 0 Atk Scizor-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 141-167 (46.3 - 54.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 0 Atk Scizor-Mega Superpower vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 175-207 (57.5 - 68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Rotom-Wash Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 99-117 (28.8 - 34.1%) -- 99.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Rotom-Wash Volt Switch vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 63-75 (18.3 - 21.8%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock

"Bulkanion"

volcanion (1).png

Volcanion @ Iapapa Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 36 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Sludge Bomb

Volcanion is a great check to Scizor thanks to its incredible physical bulk and great defensive typing which gives it a resistance to both Scizor's STAB moves. The defensive evs are designed to take a STAB Earthquake from up to 150 base Attack Mons with a + Nature and 96 speed evs allow it to outrun max speed Adamant Mega Mawile, Azumarill and heavily invested defensive Mega Scizor variants such as this one.

This set can easily come in on anything Scizor can throw at it and threaten to OHKO it with Flamethrower. Also, do to the nature of this set (Ground Type Lure), it very rarely has to worry about Knock Off

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Def / 232 SpD

- Protect
- Heavy Slam
- Flamethrower

Celesteela is bulky enough to eat any of M-Scizor boosted attacks and hits it back with Flamethrower, thus being a nice counter to M-Scizor.

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
Bold Nature
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 36 SpA / 4 SpD / 16 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Hidden Power Fire

Mega Venu is a great counter to Mega Scizor because, with the given EVs, it can always switch into Sciz and threaten to 2HKO it with HP Fire. Bullet Punch is Sciz's best option versus this monster, as Knock Off and Superpower do absolutely nothing even at +4. Bullet Punch at +2 has a high chance to 3HKO, but with seeds up, this becomes a 4HKO. At +4 and seeds, Bullet punch still only has about 11% chance for a 2HKO. Added to all this, Venu can synthesise all of the damage that Scizor puts on it. The only WORST-CASE scenario Venu runs into is that it hasn't put any damage and/or seeds on Scizor and Scizor is at +4.

Offensive Calcs:
36 SpA Venusaur-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 172-204 (50.1 - 59.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Defensive Calcs:
0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 204+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 60-72 (16.5 - 19.8%) -- possible 6HKO
+2 0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 204+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 118-141 (32.5 - 38.8%) -- 98.7% chance to 3HKO
+2 0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 204+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 118-141 (32.5 - 38.8%) -- 98.5% chance to 4HKO after Leech Seed recovery
+4 0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 204+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 178-210 (49 - 57.8%) -- 11.3% chance to 2HKO after Leech Seed recovery

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP/ 252 Def/ 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Bounce
- Waterfall

A surprisingly bulky Sub DD Gyara set can counter practically any Scizor variant. Factoring in Intimidate, setting up a Sub and DD makes it very easy to bypass many threats commonly found.

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower / Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Any faster Fire-type hard-checks MegaZor, and MegaZard Y is no exception, eating a +2 Bullet Punch even after Rocks and OHKOing back several times over. Notably, the given set can't even U-Turn to Pex, Chansey or another weather setter on the switch to regain the massive momentum loss.

+2 0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 112-132 (37.7 - 44.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Victini @ Normalium Z
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Celebrate
- Searing Shot
- Stored Power
- Focus Blast

Victini is a check to Mega Scizor. Victini's typing gives it a resistance to Bullet Punch and Superpower, and its Z-Crystal allows it to avoid the 2HKO from Knock Off if Scizor hasn't set up. This gives it plenty of opportunities to switch in and OHKO with Searing Shot.

However, Victini can have trouble switching in on Scizor's coverage move after a Swords Dance boost, especially Knock Off, which can OHKO at +2 after a round of Stealth Rock damage. It also can't switch in on a direct attack at all if Scizor is at +6, but the chance of that happening is low.

Offensive:
252 SpA Victini Searing Shot vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 436-516 (127.1 - 150.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Victini Stored Power (20 BP) vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 11-13 (3.2 - 3.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Victini Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 87-103 (25.3 - 30%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
+1 252 SpA Victini Stored Power (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 97-115 (28.2 - 33.5%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO
+1 252 SpA Victini Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 130-154 (37.9 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
