@goodbar- I like the light black/dark grey I have. I'll probably just go with the blue.

@Caladbolg- I'll fix the rocks. I think I'd moved them out but forgot to put them back closer to the limbs. As for it looking like a Steel type... I'll try again tomorrow to reshade the head area.

Very cute, but i think the rocks are a little oversaturated. Yours looks very pokemonish though. The rocks need to be a little less orange and a little more brown.

Also, I would edit the top left arm so that the gem doesn't ride the rock type change as much, and the bottom ones as well to a lesser degree. The top right arm seems to best show how the others should look.

Well, here's my entry. Hope you like it.
I don't want to be rude [And maybe, with me crappy english I sounds rude, but, it's not my intention].
Your sprite looks too big, like Atyroki's fatty-sprite. In fact, the rocks looks like cookies xD *yummy*

Don't worry, you don't sound rude.
As for the size, its about the same as Garchomp:

It probably looks like cookies since I put cracks in the rocks to make it look rough. I will probably change the color to be more brown rather than having it look like cookies. XP

Made the limbs bigger on mine (it desperately needed that, but I'm lazy). I'll redo the shiny in a bit. I'm going to work on making the head right first though.

I think I have to do some tweaking to it.
I really like this sprite. In my opinion it best represents the amazing speed of the pokemon - just the way the top left claw is so far away from the other claws give it a speedy effect.
It's the one thing that distinguishes your sprite from all the other ones.
My advice to you would be to further emphasize this detached arm effect, not by changing the positions of anything, but by tilting its head slightly more upwards so its nearly facing towards its top arm. Also, if you put a floating trail of rocks behind it it will look like a comet's tail and make the sprite look a lot more defined I think.

EDIT - also, I would perhaps change the colour of the stone slightly. Reducing the amount of blue-grey and making it slightly more brown-gray or green-gray will stop it looking like metal.

For Vader's, I think he should hook the top-left hand in more, it seems to be pointing the other way.

i made my sprite look very detailed and realistic.
i took YDG's picture, made an outline of all the non brown rocks, filled it in, did selective outlining, shaded, switched some stuff around, and then finally i did all the brown rocks and detailed them.
it didn't take me too long, and i love the realistic look of it.
i will appreciate any criticism considering this is my second sprite ever (first one was my first attempt)
also, im open for suggestions for the shiny color.

This is getting much better. I like yours, because it looks small and fast. Every past CAP sprite has pushed the 80x80 limit to the max. Almost no ingame sprites do that. Sure, pokemon like Giratina and Gyarados have huge sprites, but the vast majority of pokemon sprites fit in a 50x50 square. Your sprite (if cropped) is 65x55, with much of that area being "whitespace". I'm glad you are keeping your sprite small.

The larger limbs helped a lot. I also like the symmetry of your pose.

Redo your colors. They look really drab. Yes, this is a rock pokemon, which could be considered "dull" colorwise. But, your sprite needs to have "pop" (a term, I think derived from "pop off the page" IIRC). It needs to look lively and energetic to connote speed and power. Since your sprite is small, therefore has less colored pixels, you need to use bolder colors to make the design pop.

Look at Dragonzrule's sprite for an example of lively browns. Atyroki also has energetic coloring. I'm not advising you to steal their color schemes, but sample their colors and look at their color values. Look at the HSB numbers. Then shift their values to create your own palette. But, I think your current palette needs to be scrapped.

If you are having trouble shaking the "steel" look in your grays, then make the shading and highlights a little more irregular. "Shinyness" is conveyed through smooth heavily contrasted highlights. Make the highlights more irregular and it will look like stone. Look at Wyverri's head, she did a fantastic job of using irregular highlights to make it look like stone. Atyroki did the same thing on his upper limbs. Although you have fewer pixels to work with, you should still be able to do it. Perhaps not in the limbs, but the head should work.

Good luck. I like the progress you are making on your sprite and I look forward to seeing more.

Hopefully it looks a bit speedier now?

@Wyverii: My main issue with yours is the round-ness of the head :S

Some of the perspective is confusing as well, with the upper right claw much smaller then the others @_@
This is my definite favorite so far. After slimming the head, it has just the right mix of bulk and aerodynamics.
I like it, I do. The shiny is pretty good too; basic but legitimate.

You know I wasn't too warm to YDG design in the art phase, but seeing it translated to sprite form really makes it shine.

With that said, here is my first try at spriting. Shiny versions will come later.

I really like the pose and everything, and the realism of it is pretty nice, but I think you should simplify it a bit, because I think I'm safe in saying it doesn't look like it could be an ingame sprite. Shiny color is cool too, if you want you can try out my suggestion of the black shiny stone... But yea, try simplifying it anyways and see what you get

I disliked the limbs so I redid them completely. I loathe using grey/greyish colour schemes and i'm very unhappy with it so far so i'll be messing with it further.

My fav so far's Atyroki. Most of the issues with it's already been picked on.
I actually liked the sprite before. :(

The right limb on this one looks attached to the body though. Maybe separate it from the body a bit?

Nonetheless, the sprite looks pretty badass.

X who I can call you - Maybe, and correct me if I'm wrong but most or all pokemon sprites have a thin black outline.

Thanks for the comments DJD. Here's my newest attempt at getting rid of the dullness and trying to make the head less steel like:

The next thing I'm going to do is adjust the placement of the limbs. They're bugging me right now.

And I'd noted that when cropped mine was 65x55. iirc It's bigger than Blissey atm. My worry is [somehow] should mine win, however unlikely it is, it's going to seem very small next to the other CAPs on a banner. >_>

I will do some black lining. I simplified it. Looks much simpler now, Wouldn't you say? I also did the black shiny. Anything else, goodbar? you're a real help with this, so i hope some other people will give me some suggestions.

Looking better, and becoming my favorite >_>. Keep working on it and we'll see how it turns out...

hm, ok, ill do some dedetailing.
EDIT:

Did the black detailing, and some random coloring edits. I'm done for the night, but i will work on it tommorrow and edit it to the peoples suggestions.
Criticise away, im very appreciate of it.
i hope i win.

Okay, I once again present you with a submission. Hopefully it goes better than the Fidgit sprite...

A note to all coloring/shading specialists: As I am atrocious at coloring sprites, I'd really would like to extend an invitation to all of you to color this to your heart's content. Any recolors will be judged by me, and the most fitting will be the contest submission. Of course, anyone who does get the winning recolor will claim half the contest entry. Thank you!
